Moving and heart wrecking plot of two people who have fallen in love but are separated when one is thought deceased. Years later they have an opportunity for a second chance. Will they be able to re-establish their love? You will only know if you read this beautiful story. There is danger for them, steam and great banter between the two. You may shed a few tears as this really is a moving story.
Finding out your former fiance is not actually dead and quite well is something one can hardly recover from
I loved seeing how the dynamic is after the reconnect and i was not disappointed
I love me some historical romance
Thank you Netgalley for the arc🫶🏻🫶🏻
This was a wonderful story with an inevitable happy ending. Marcus had fallen in battle and Mariel needed to marry another man. It turned out that Marcus was alive and he thought that Mariel had betrayed his memory. A few years later, Mariel, who had since been widowed, learned of his survival. She couldn't understand why Marcus hadn't returned to her after the war.
So, after a long and painful separation, Mariel and Marcus faced each other as strangers. Mariel felt that being abandoned by Marcus would make it impossible for her to survive in society. She proposed a temporary fake betrothal to save her reputation. Inevitably, both parties started to wish that their arrangement was real.
I really enjoyed reading this because the couple was obviously very much in love. They had both been through some difficult situations which were gradually revealed. The reunited couple was mature and didn't go through any sort of third act break up. The book had the requisite steam, danger and witty dialog. This author was new to me and I look forward to reading more of her work in the future.
I received a free ARC from NetGalley and this is my honest review.
Lady Mariel Mabry Beaumont is shocked to discover the man she loved, who died in the war, isn’t actually dead and has been in hiding for the last three years. Marcus Stratton, the new Viscount of Blackmore, curses the fact his older brother died for many reasons, one of which is it has revealed him to society.
This series, of which this is the third book, is a retelling of an American classic, I've never read the original book. A well written second chance romance, which also has danger lurking. I really liked Marcus & grew to like Mariel. I did love how two wounded souls found each other again as both had suffered, in different ways, whilst they were apart. I also loved how close the sisters were & helped each other plus together they were quite a force to be reckoned with
My review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
Revealing the Viscount is the third book in Marrying a Mabry series. The series itself was inspired by Louisa May Alcott's, Little Women. to be honest I have never read Little Women, don't judge me. But I didn't start reading books on my own until after high school. The classics have never been interesting to me. And many of the classics are made into movies. This is the first book I have read in the series.
Revealing the Viscount is primarily about Mariel and her former betrothed Marcus. As a second son he went to war and was injured and left for dead. Marcus returns several years later wounded in his soul for all the atrocities he had witnessed.
Mariel was forced to marry an older man in order to save her family. She did not have a very good marriage with him before he dies. Needing to marry to save the family is used often but they why was never really explained in this book. Mariel's character is a little stiff in my opinion. She is kind and generous, but I struggled to like this character until she reunites with Marcus.
The book is good but not one of my favorites. Maybe if I had started at the beginning of the series, I would have felt differently about these characters.
Little Women is one of my favorite classics and it's always interesting to see authors reinterpret it into their own style. I find myself to be the combination of Jo's literary avarice and Beth's soft spoken gentleness. Lexi Post's Marrying a Mabry series was so compelling and I liked reading her iteration of the March sisters. Unfortunately, Revealing the Viscount was my lowest ranking book in the collection. My disinterest most likely stems from the fact that Meg is my least favorite March sister. It also featured the double whammy of oblivious widow and second chance romance. Those tropes shrivel me up, but I wanted to read it anyway because I love the author's writing. Mariel Mabry played her part of responsible eldest daughter well, but she never had time to develop a personality.
Revealing the Viscount focused on Mariel's love story, but I felt like I wasn't getting the full picture. I understand she and the hero had history together, but it was only told through flashbacks and referential dialogue. The main reason I don't care for second chance romance is because I prefer for the full relationship to occur on page. This book was difficult to read at times because it highlighted what an awful marriage Mariel had before reuniting with Marcus. Her husband was much older and she married him only for the sake of her family. She was totally clueless and came off as an empty headed ninny. I tried not to let my disdain of the Meg March characterization hinder my enjoyment of the novel, but it managed to squeak through on multiple occasions.
Although Revealing the Viscount ranked lowest in the Marrying a Mabry series, the previous two novels were astounding. Amy and Jo would be proud how lovingly they were adapted by Lexi Post. I'm so pleased I discovered this reimagined Little Women collection. I will definitely be reading more books in the future from this talented author. Let's just keep that veil on the next time we consider Revealing the Viscount.
The pain of betrayal & dreams thought forever lost!
A dash of steam, a barrel load of heartache and a generous pinch of uplifting joy, blends together so beautifully to make REVEALING THE VISCOUNT one captivating romance!
The scent of betrayal, the pain of not being good enough and dreams thought forever lost envelops these two broken hearted souls and taints the deep resounding love they have always felt for each other. Can understanding breed forgiveness and love be enough to heal all wounds?
Confronting your newly resurrected betrothed, after three years of thinking him dead must be torture. But to find, the once carefree, love of your life so altered and cold walling you, despite the glimpses of that all consuming heady love seeping through the hurt in his eyes, must be painfully infuriating and confusing, especially when your feelings for him have never changed. Yet, having to live with the thought of the woman you love now widowed having married another so quickly after your presumed death, must be excruciating. Especially knowing you can no longer fulfil her heart's desire despite so desperately wanting too. So, can a six week fake betrothal be enough to succumb to the haze of longing and craving desire that magnetically pulls them together, help crumble façades founded on misunderstandings and diminish the dark secrets that have haunted them both? Or will the sickening danger that lurks in shadows, seeded on that fateful battlefield three years ago, forever rip them apart? I really did enjoy getting absorbed in Marcus and Mariel's well written, bumpy road through heart-wrenching torment to love and healing.
A deeply touching second chance romance immerges that had me wholeheartedly rooting for their much deserved happiness. As they grew and flourished together as a couple. With the added excitement of wrapping me up in the thrilling suspense of danger encroaching on the horizon and the joy in spending more time savouring the wit, humour and fiercely protective warmth of the Mabry ladies and their besotted husbands. Not to mention, Marcus' mysterious wingman, Anthony.
On an aside I really do hope we get to finally meet, the minx in the making Lissette Fontaine in the future too.
Post is a definite must buy for me; loved it!
Third in the series and just as interesting, lively and wonderful to read. Circumstances seem to want to separate them but true love is unbreakable. Plus a villain stalking in the background provides an evil presence throughout. But with amazingly talented and skillful sisters, and their supportive spouses, good will prevail.
I received an ARC from Netgalley and leaving my review voluntarily.
Book #3 in the Mabry series. Loving this series demonstrating strong intelligent women with huge hearts.
Mariel has suffered the loss of her beloved Marcus in the war but has the stamina to go forward with her life to save her family from ruin. She learns at a much later date that Marcus has survived for years without any contact.
Marcus has been devastated physically an emotionally, feeling unworthy of her love.
The two of them go through some trials but their love is evident if only they can make it work.
Highly recommend this book as well as the whole series.
I have not read the previous two books in this series, but that was not a problem at all. Although it's a series and the main characters are sisters each story can stand on its own. So if you haven't read those books either don't let that stop you from reading this one. As far as fake engagement/relationship romances this one didn't really feel like that at all. Probably because the relationship stopped being fake almost right away. These were two characters who just needed the change to get to know one another again and learn more about what had really happened during their time apart. I did feel for Mariel when it was learned how awful her marriage had been because it just showed how her confidence took a hit just because of how little she had been allowed to know about her body and sex in general - she definitely needed the book her sister gave her. I liked that Mariel hadn't lost faith in Marcus when he didn't show up to the chapel and immediately took action to find out what happened to him. The big bad guy was pretty heinous and it was very satisfying to see him get what he deserved - especially since he was ultimately brought down by three women. Speaking of those three women, I loved that it was clear how much these sisters loved one another even though they had very different personalities. I would love a story with Anthony as the main protagonist - in case the author is taking requests.
Book 3 of the Marrying a Mabry series. Mariel is the eldest Mabry sister whose beloved fiancee had died in the war, married a much older man to restore her family’s finances, and is now a widow. She’s just learned that her once-fiancee is not dead after all and is forced out of hiding to become a viscount after his brother’s death. Marcus has indeed been hiding from Mariel, at first because he believed she betrayed him by marrying so soon after his supposed death and then because he believed himself incapable of siring children after witnessing atrocities during the war. When Mariel comes to confront Marcus over his deception, they both observe that the other person is changed from the person they knew all those years ago. They ultimately agree to a fake betrothal to preserve Mariel’s reputation and to keep away all the debutantes vying for Marcus’s hand. As these two spend more time together, it’s clear that they’re both still in love, but very damaged from their separate experiences. They definitely need to talk through their issues and attempt to overcome them before being able to be together.
I have not read the others in this series and had no trouble jumping in. This is a romantic retelling of Little Women which is the original movie for me of women just being women that I loved growing up. I enjoyed this book but note that it isn’t fully opened door if that is what you are looking for. but the scenes of just them kissing were so romantic. I was so happy that both the main characters had gotten their happy ending. They were sweethearts that were torn apart and took their time finding their way back to one another both believing that the other deserved better for a reason, I do like that this didn’t cause a 3rd act break up and they over came their personal issues with the help of one another. I will be going back and reading the others in this story. Thank you NetGalley for providing this ARC for my honest opinion.
Revealing the Viscount is a cute, sweet regency romance. I couldn't put it down. Literally, I read it in one sitting. It is a really sweet story along with the two fanstic personalities matching each other wit for wit in banter. Their snarky back and forth brings so much lightness to some of the heavier topics that comeup. Simply wonderful.
Revealing the Viscount was a wonderful addition to the Marrying a Mabry series. The characters, Mariel and Marcus were both well-written characters that I liked from the start. This second chance romance kept me engrossed throughout the story. The store has some spice, but nothing too heated. The Mabry women are interesting and unique. I'm glad Mariel got her Happy Ever After. I look forward to more books in this series.
I received this book from NetGalley and Dragonblade Publishing for an honest review.
