Katy fell in love with the charismatic stranger when he first started coming to the café where she worked. He always sat at the same table, the one that looked onto the sheriff’s office. Everyone said that he was watching the sheriff’s wife that he was in love with her. How could that be when he was always flirting with her?
Dane came in for three years, always flirting, and having his friend leave large tips for Katy. That is, until he broke her heart. He said she didn’t fit into his world. He is just one more person who doesn’t think she is good enough. The whole town was full of people with that opinion, what’s one more at this point? She had fooled herself into believing things were different with Dane, and he completely broke her.
Then the silent stranger came in, the one that never talks and he spoke for the first time. He offered her a job that got her out of that town and changed her life forever. Now, that very job is what has brought her back to the town of Broken Butte. However, running into Dane was the last thing she expected to happen. And, to find out they’re sharing a suite at the hotel is the worst possible scenario she could imagine.
Graeme didn’t want to bring Katelyn back into Dane’s orbit. He was perfectly happy keeping her hidden from him. He considers her his daughter and didn’t want to give the Vanderale hybrid a chance to shred her heart all over again. However, Katelyn’s running out of time. Her body is destroying itself and her only chance at survival is for her to mate the man who abandoned her eight years ago. Can Graeme really trust someone that could abandon their own mate to save her now though?
I was beyond excited to finally get Dane’s story. He has been one of my favorites in the series for a long time. And, I flew through this book. Although honestly, I expected so much more out of it. This is Dane. Funny, troublemaking, Dane. I just anticipated more of his charisma to shine through and less of this uncertainty we got instead. Don’t get me wrong, the book was still good, and gave me all the emotions that I loved so much, at the end. So, much emotion. It’s just the first half of the story was … rather boring. We didn’t get any courting, not even the mind-blowing mating heat sex I’ve come to expect. I think Katy got the short end of the stick on that front. I was disappointed that a book that had both Dane and Graeme wasn’t more epic.
With all that said, this book has a lot of information any avid Breed reader will not want to miss. It brings so much more to the story and also introduces us to more dangerous characters to fall in love with. I’m really curious how things will play out with these new players. And, I’m really hoping we’ll get to see more of Dane and Katy as I do still feel a bit cheated on their ‘romance’.
As a long time fan of Leigh's Breed series, I was very excited to get back into it. Dane's Mark didn't disappoint. Katy is such a sympathetic character that she has the reader in her corner right from the first pages. I enjoyed the angst of the back and forth she had with Dane. I think this would be a good start for a new reader to the series, but I loved being back in Leigh's world. As always I am looking forward to more from this series.
I will admit that I was a bit disappointed about this book. I have waited so long for Dane's story that I was expecting an epic love story but this wasn't it. Now don't get me wrong it was a good story and Lora Leigh always delivers but I was expecting a bit more of a bickering relationship at first. The one thing though about this book is the surprise twist that has me slathering at the mouth waiting for the next book in this series.
This was the second book that I have read in the series but the 33rd in this series. In the beginning of the story Leigh explains what Breeds are and how they were created. This book was a quick read, and I found the Breeds world very fascinating. This book contains a lot of background and the history of the Breeds plus the explanation of a new generation of Breeds. Enjoyable Science Fiction Romance novel. Katy Chavos was heartbroken as a young girl when Dane Vanderale who she thought had feelings for her, basically told her to get lost. Katy is given an offer of a new job with Tech-Corp and she decides to take the offer. About 10 years later Katy comes back to her hometown to complete a real estate deal. She once again meets up with Dane and realizes that she is still in love with him. She tries to ignore him, but he has feelings for her but because of his family is unable to show her his love. We also find out that Katy is in danger and could be killed. Read and find out if Dane ends up with Katy and if she will survive this visit to her hometown. Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for providing an advanced reader’s copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Dane's Mark is another wonderful story by author Lora Leigh. It is part of her breed series, and while you don't need to read the other books in the series to read and understand this story, I highly recommend that you do. Dane's Mark brings back heir Dane, and for the first time, we meet his love interest in this story. I love both the ML and FL their characters were so well-written, and I could not put this book down till the very end. Their story had some misunderstanding and some tears on my part, but when they finally go together, and everything was cleared up, it was so sweet and beautiful. I hope that there are many more books to come in this series, which as I said is one of my favorites!!
This was a very good and entertaining read, but then, it’s a Lora Leigh book, so of course it’s good. It has intrigue, romance, suspense and action. It was great!!
I'm going to be frank - Lora Leigh has lost her spark. This book doesn't even seem to be written by the same person who wrote the rest of the series. There is no background for readers. The story is boring. The characters are flat. As a reader, I had no desire to finish the book because I didn't like anyone involved. Very sorry I waited this long to get this sad of a book.
It’s been quite a long time since readers have visited the breeds and I must say Lora Leigh did not disappoint. Not only did she give readers a book about a character who they’ve been dying to see fall in love, she’s also managed to introduce even more of the breed world in what we all thought was a pretty well established world.
So that character I was talking about that everyone loves? Well that’s Dane Vanderale and we’ve been waiting YEARS for Dane to find his mate. Does Lora do Dane Justice? HELL YES.
Katelyn is new to us and she goes by the old adage fool me once shame on you fool me twice shame on me. They’ve had a Run in once already and that didn’t go so well. So Dane is going to have a lot of work on his hands to get Katelyn on board. They have a lot of issues to get through if they want the mating heat to kick in and they don’t necessarily have time on their side.
Danes Mark gives the readers HUGE surprises and announcements all throughout the book. This book is a turning point in the series. It almost feels like it should be the end of the breeds and the start of a new series. Sort of like how Nalini Singh did with the psy/changling series to psy/changling trinity series.
In the end after all this talk of a refresh, Danes mark still gives us readers what we’ve come to love, a breed romance with tons of spice and alpha males coming to heel for their mates. Let’s just not wait super long in between books next time shall we?!
Oh my gosh! I've been waiting years for the next book in the breed series and it was worth the wait! The chemistry between Katy and Dane was hot! Although I love the mating heat aspect of the breeds, I really loved the drama that gets stirred up with a hybrid's recessive breed genes delaying the heat. This gave time for Katy and Dane to develop love in a way that didn't leave them questioning whether it was just the mating bringing them together.
I also loved the twist with Katy's family and Graeme's connection to her. It was so sweet to see how she impacted his life over the years. I'm definitely going to be going back and rereading Graeme and Cat's story again just to see if Katy pops up there.
The ending also makes huge change to the breed world and I am excited to see where Lora Leigh is going to take the breeds!
Dane's Mark is definitely one of my top staff picks!
Katy and Dane's initial meet cute felt awkward to me, and their 0-60 dialogue felt rushed. Overall this was not one of her best but also not one of her worst of the Breeds series.
3.5 stars.
