Despite originally choosing this series because of its setting in North Norfolk where I live, I’m actually enjoying these books as they are great police procedurals and a cracking read.
This time, the action is centred around Hunstanton (further up the coast towards The Wash).
The Paradise Caravan Park seems to be the epicentre of a serial-killing spree. The bodies are piling up and whilst there are a couple of suspects, there seems to be a very tenuous link between the victims at the park and the first victim, Alfie Hook, small-time drug dealer and husband to the Matriarch of a local criminal family.
I less enjoyed the last quarter of the book. It started to become a bit convoluted to be honest, and whilst it was a good read (not as good as the first) I feel I can only rate it as ‘middling’.
This won’t deter me from the rest of the series though.

Death at Paradise Park is the second book in the series and although I have not read the first one I was able to read it as a stand-alone. The story is told through dual timelines present and past. I love police procedurals but did find myself struggling to get through this one. There was so much going on it was difficult to follow at times and it felt a little disjointed. However, I did like the protagonist Ashley Knight, and enjoyed the banter between her and the rest of the team. Overall, it is a good book.

Thank you to Boldwood Books and NetGalley for allowing me to read this ARC in return for my voluntary and honest review.

I thought this book was a brilliant read , got you hooked from the beginning by revealing things then going onto something else which made you just want to read it all in one go , I couldn’t leave it down but still finishing with everything explained but leaving you shocked to the end.

The story:
When a murder takes place in the popular seaside town of Hunstanton – in the car park of a fish and chip shop no less – the Norfolk Major Investigations Team, including DS Ashley Knight, begin the search for a motive.

The trail leads to a nearby holiday park, where another body is discovered – but there doesn’t seem to be a connection between the victims. Could the proximity of the murders simply be a coincidence, or does the story run deeper than the team realise? With motives and crimes spanning decades, and even reaching as far as the USA, will Ashley and the team be able to stop the bodies from mounting up?

My thoughts:
After the events in the first book in the Norfolk Murders series (“Death on Cromer Beach”) by Ross Greenwood, the Norfolk MIT is without a Detective Inspector, and Ashley shoulders a lot of the responsibility in the search for the killer.

When the first crime is discovered, the victim is found to be Alfie Hook – the husband of a woman well known to the police and just released from prison, which leads the team to suspect some disagreement between local criminals might be the cause. But when a seemingly unconnected murder is discovered in the local Paradise holiday park, they’re forced to think again, and the plot becomes more complex as further deaths occur. The murders seem to centre around Paradise Park, but are seemingly motiveless; and the team struggle to uncover anything to connect them with Alfie’s murder.

I was quite surprised when, early in the narrative, the story jumped back 40 years and across the pond to Texas, where a killing takes place. The rest of the story with Ashley and the team gradually leads towards the explanation for this, with long-standing enmity and bitter jealousies playing out in the present day.

Once again, Ashley is a very likeable protagonist, and gets to the bottom of the case using a combination of hard work, instinct and great teamwork. This is a complex and engrossing case, building towards an exciting finale that kept me turning the pages. There are a few plot points I think will play out in future stories (a potential leak in the department among them!), and I look forward to reading more about the team soon!

Although this was a good book I didn't enjoy it quite as much as Book 1. I think the problem was I just didn't connect to any of the characters so I wasn't invested in what happened to them. I am enjoying getting to know Ash and the team better and I look forward to reading the next book in the series.

A complicated plot, I was as confused as the detectives with characters and deaths at Paradise Park. An original plot and story line and lots of travelling through Norfolk.
Not my favourite book of 2024 but not the worst either. Will appeal to others though.

Ross Greenwood delivers on suspense and mystery with unexpected twists and turns in this thrilling book.
We meet DS Ashley Knight again, in book two of the series. This is a fast paced read that is hard to put down.
I found myself quickly drawn into the storyline, helped by the feeling of waves on the beach and wind in my hair. A last meal and more than one murder investigation will keep you intrigued and guessing!
I loved how the emotions and strength emanating from Ashley allow her team members to show their individual skills and personalities. A really great example of how suspense and mystery should work.

Huge thanks and congratulations to Boldwood Books, NetGalley and the talented Mr Greenwood for the opportunity to read and review this book.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Another great book from Ross, set in Hunstanton, and thus giving the Cromer crew a bit more travelling to do than in his last book. (If Ross can set a book in Swaffham next that's most of my childhood covered!)

The book starts, as every good book should, with proper fish and chips, and with it evoking the sensory memories of taste and smell, both of the food and the coastal town they were fried in. That Alfie had to be murdered while eating them is just the first of several bad things to happen in and around Paradise Park before the twisting tale reaches its conclusion. Alongside it we learn more about those tasked with solving the puzzles and about the Norfolk surroundings.

Another very enjoyable read, something of a contrast to the Ibiza poolside where I chose to read it. Although as the sun goes down and the wind picks up, and I head off to investigate the hot tubs, I wonder if maybe there may be more that unites than divides them....

DS Ashley knight and the team are back investigating a suspicious death outside a chip shop .
Then there is one death after another at Paradise caravan park is there a connection between the park deaths and the chip shop death?
There are plenty of twists and turns in this story and it kept my interest throughout .
The main characters and their complexities are the finishing touch to an excellent thriller .
It kept me guessing right until the end .
Looking forward to reading the next case for DS knight and the team .
Thanks to NetGalley and Boldwood Books.

Death at Paradise Park by Ross Greenwood is the second book in the excellent DS Ashley Knight series and I was hooked again from the beginning till the very end. This was a book that full of twists and turns throughout and was fast paced. DS Knight is back with her Major Investigation team, and has been called to a suspicious death outside the chip shop near Paradise Park caravan site. The person who has been found is Alfie Hook and is the husband of the notorious Jackie Hook, she has just been released from prison after doing an eight stretch.
DS Knight has to deliver the devastating news that will be very difficult and they don’t know how Jackie will react, as she has been known to be extremely volatile toward the police in the past.
When investigating they instantly discover that will complicate everything.......

Will they find the killer before they kill again and why was Alfie murdered?

This book was so good and a great page turner However, the only bad thing about this book was I started to crave real Fish and chips!!!! and being on a diet Fish and chips from a chippy is so Baaaadddd!

I highly recommend this series.

Big Thank you to Boldwood Books and NetGalley for the ARC.

Death at Paradise Park is written with scalpel like precision. This is definitely in the top ten books I’ve read this year!

A tranquil holiday park. Multiple deaths. All apparently unconnected.

A reader that has been given their cake, they want to eat it, but they don’t know what deadly toxin lies between the layers.

DS Ashley Knight has been called to a suspicious death outside the chip shop near Paradise Park caravan site. Alfie Hook, husband of the notorious Jackie Hook, who has just been released from prison after doing an eight stretch. Ashley and her team know instantly that the discovery will complicate everything. Delivering the news will be difficult and they don’t know how Jackie will react. She has been known to be extremely volatile toward the police.

Death in Paradise Park is book two in the series but having not read the first I can confirm that it doesn’t impact my understanding of the story. I will be going back to read the first very soon, however.

I enjoyed the complexities and relationships of Ashley’s team. Hector, the fast-tracked constable was a character that added a little something more. As a reader that has no experience of the force it made you really realise that police officers are human too. Yes, I’m sure that they can become desensitised to seeing death, but they can be affected just as easily. It can play on their minds and affect how they see the world. All the characters add enough layers to make it through winter.

So, this case was tough. It was like trying to figure out the right combination of a rubix cube. At some points I felt like I wasn’t intelligent enough to work it out. Whiplash, a shadow whizzing past you, a twig snapping underfoot to the side of you. That’s the emotions I felt while reading Death at Paradise Park. The detectives follow their nose and sometimes the scent just stinks. A red herring or something more? I’ll let you discover that.

Ross Greenwood is great at the twist. I know you’re going to scream at me for using the ‘twist you didn’t see coming,’ but I really didn’t. Did I have my suspicions? You bet, but they were all wrong. Ross lead us one way while distracting us with another. Surprise in amongst the action and fear. The author has created characters that make you react, that make you fear and make you question why some people act the way they do.

A really good entertaining read. Just what you need for a good thriller. Recommended.

I found this book a bit of a chore to read. The plot was overcomplicated and the detctives seemed to be messing around confused whilst other people were being murdered . The body count is high and the reasoning quite tenuous. I like to read about the lives of detectives, some of the information here is irrelevant and does not add much to the book . I have lived in the area in the past, but unfortunately did not get much of an impression of North Norfolk from the descriptions, quite honestly the descriptions of Hunstanton could have been almost anywhere on the UK coast .The characters could have been portryed better, I did not like or care about any of them and found the nicknames irritating.
Not a bad read , but I`m not terribly enthusiastic and I had to push myself to keep reading it.
Thanks to Net Galley for the ARC

Alfie was just enjoying his fish & chips when he was murdered in his van. As he was married to a somewhat notorious ex-con DS Ashley Knight needs to tread carefully. When investigating Alfie's movements they are brought to Paradise Holiday Park. There are various lodges on the park & when looking at the place where Alfie's van had been seen, an awful stench leads them to a rotten dead fish & a body in the hot tub. Everyone seems to have an alibi- but someone did it! Ashley & her team have a lot on their hands.

I enjoyed the first in the series & was delighted to meet them again. The police team are an interesting bunch- I really like how fast-tracker Hector Fade is settling in to the group. I'm already looking forward to the next one. Thanks to Netgalley & the publisher for letting me read & review this book

After reading Death At Cromer Beach I was eagerly awaiting this sequel and it didn't disappoint. The fast paced plot had me hooked instantly, while all the twists and turns had me on the edge of my seat. The character development made me feel like I knew them and they all had a great connection. I really hope there is going to be more books in this wonderful series.

Death at Paradise Park is the second installment of the DS Knight trilogy by Ross Greenwood, and it does not disappoint. The characters are all wonderfully crafted, with DS Ashley Knight showing both compassion towards the newest recruit, Hector whilst remaining level-headed during the investigation.

The setting of Hunstanton adds to the story's depth, and as someone who lives nearby, it's easy to visualize the described area. The book is full of unexpected twists and turns, keeping you on the edge of your seat until the very end.
