Thank you to NetGalley and Alcove Press for an advance review copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

“Here for the Wrong Reasons” offers a unique twist on the typical dating show narrative, featuring Krystin and Lauren, two contestants who unexpectedly fall for each other. While the concept is intriguing, with Krystin seeking a perfect life and Lauren looking to expand her social media presence, the execution sometimes falls short, lacking the depth that could have made their journey more impactful. The novel provides some entertaining moments and a refreshing take on reality TV romance, but it doesn't fully deliver on its promising premise. It’s a decent read for fans of 'The Bachelor' style romances, yet it might leave readers wanting more from its exploration of love and identity in a scripted world. Overall, it's enjoyable but missing the mark to make it a must read.

I love The Bachelor and I love sapphic romances, so this book was an auto-request from me!

What I liked: I loved the premise here and how fun the novel was. The author clearly loves The Bachelor in the same way I do and poured that love into every page. She understands the show well. I also loved that the structure of the shoe dictated the structure of the story (group dates, one-on-ones, hometowns, overnights, final two, finale…)

I also really liked the ladies-kissing-ladies bits. Obvi.

What I didn’t like: I would say that the writing here is not a strength. In particular, the pacing felt off (despite the structure of it all) and things move very fast in the main plot of the story. I didn’t really feel the chemistry between Lauren and Krystin in the first half of the book — I don’t think their initial attraction was well-developed. And the third act conflict was not handled well at all and was not believable…it was written in to be convenient to the plot, but I don’t think these two characters would have actually miscommunicated so poorly.

I hate when miscommunication comes down to something a character could easily clear up in a conversation and they just…don’t.

The spicy bits also left a little to be desired the sex is certainly on page, but the scenes were so short…I think that contributed to not feeling the chemistry. We got the bare minimum on the play-by-play and I think these scenes can be really important for understanding the depth and complexity of the attraction and feelings between characters…and that was lacking here.

So this was three stars overall, but a fun three stars! I would read this one again and I do recommend it, just manage your expectations going in.

At first it was hard to find any qualities of Lauren's that I liked, but towards the end of the book that definitely changed. There was a little too much focus on the "Bachelor" aspect, which is fully understandable since it's the main reason the characters are interacting. Overall, it was a fun read and definitely kept my interest!

i sadly dnf'd this book 50% in. The premise of the book was good but the more i read the book the less i liked how it was going. I did not like the fact that we had no idea what the characters thought. and the relationship between the two was also really weird it went from them not liking each other to like kissing to ignoring each other and then sleeping with each other. And I get that the tv show they're in is the main part of the book but we saw more of a relationship between josh and the girls than the girls together.

Thanks to Alcove Press and Netgalley for early access to this book in return for a review.

What happens when two closeted lesbians end up on the same bachelor-esk show? Let's find out!

This book was so stinkin' cute. I love all the characters.

Here for the Wrong reasons is a dual POV forced proximity, slow burn romance. It follows two women, Krystin, a rodeo queen, and Lauren, a budding influencer. They have both been selected as contestants on Hopelessly Devoted to compete for Josh Rosen's heart. But as the competition heats up, so does the tension between these two women.

There is so much I enjoyed about this book, but I liked how it played with tropes and assumptions about the characters throughout the novel. Both Krystin and Lauren beg you to make assumptions about them, especially when you're reading from the others POV, but at every turn, they both become so much more than their stereotypes.

The conclusion to the story was sweet and tied up the loose ends nicely. The story gave you spice without going too overboard.

I think this would be great for fans of Ashley Herring Blake, and Rachel Lacey. The vibes are immaculate and it is a thoroughly enjoyable read.

This book was great! Big thanks to NetGalley for providing me with an ARC; I can’t wait to buy it in paperback.

To start off, I chose this book because the premise was similar to something I’d read before and enjoyed -Reality TV dating show contestants fall for each other instead of the guy. However, the last time I read something like that, it was YA, and I feel like it works a lot better with older characters like in this book. It made the feelings and experiences feel more realistic.

Meet our main characters, Lauren and Krystin—an impressive duo, a rodeo queen, and a Content Creator. But they’re also sort of rivals at first and love interests as well. You get it all in this book. You also get both points of view. The dual POVs work very well the dating show setting, immersing you as a spectator.

There were also friendships and rivalries formed between the other characters. You didn’t always know who was being genuine and who was faking it to stay on the show since they’re all competing for the same guy. And the contestants compete in different challenges or go on different dates throughout the book. You never really knew what was coming next, and I was so engaged with it. My favorite was definitely the fashion challenge.

It really did feel like watching a dating show. The characters' profiles at the beginning really helped sell it. And after someone got eliminated, the 'interviews' gave you a little more insight into the other contestants. Seeing them outside of the main characters' point of views made it feel like they weren’t just filler characters, since no two were alike.

Watching them leave one by one made the tension rise, especially with Lauren’s scenes. Because you wanted her to stay long enough to explore what could happen with Krystin, but it was also nerve-wracking to see her get closer and closer to being the finalist and having to end up with Josh, the guy. Which she had made it very clear wasn’t her goal. But of course the other characters don’t know that she’s “Here For The Wrong Reasons”
Rising tension as well!

I recommend this book those craving a more diverse The Bachelor, (Fingers crossed for an on-screen adaptation!) fans of both dramas and romance, and readers who enjoyed Never Ever Getting Back Together but wished the characters were aged up.

Beautiful cover, well written and different if you don’t mind reality blurb.

I don’t watch reality TV but I’m read anything so for me I didn’t mind how the book was set.

The reason I rated it 3 stars is because even though we have a lesbian relationship I don’t feel like we had enough time with them. The book synopsis sounds like we’re have more but I don’t think it was till chapter 10 you even get one spark. There was a lot around the male character and gossip but I didn’t really see our mains grow. It’s a shame as there could have been so much , teasing , slow burn and super sexy moments.

Once again well written but it just fell a little flat to what I was possibly expecting. However I will read any other queer books the author releases.

Thank you for the time spent to create this story.

Thank you to netgalley for an arc copy

I know this was largely influenced by The Bachelor franchise and that is one of the few reality shows I actually don't watch, that didn't affect my enjoyment of this book, though. I really enjoyed the behind the scenes look that the book provided and I thought the premise of going on a show to find love but falling for a fellow contestant was fun. The book felt a little long at times and the attraction almost comes out of nowhere. I enjoyed the concept of this one but felt the execution was just a little off.

Delightful! A not so smooth journey towards love, for two (mostly) likeable characters, with plenty of fun and just a hint of spice along the way.
The tongue-in-cheek attitude toward the whole TV-Dating-Show-Trope really elevated this book above your usual fare of fun but predictable romance novels.
And Krytsin might just be the sweetest and cutest hopeless romantic that I've ever met between the pages of a book. Absolutley loved her.
Overall I got exactly what I was hoping for: A rather excellent read!

I tried to finish this book.

I had dnf’d it on my original read and decided I’d try it again. Still can’t finish.

The writing is not my style. I don’t like shows like the bachelor so I’m not sure if that’s a big reason why I don’t like it? Not sure.

Maybe if this gets edited or re-worked in some way, I’d enjoy it but as it’s written right now, I don’t.

I kind of figured that I’d still enjoy this book even though I don’t like The Bachelor because while I don’t love football or hockey, I love sports romance books. Sadly, that wasn’t the case. It was very focused on that reality tv setting and I just couldn’t get into it how I was hoping.
The characters are likeable it was just slow at first and too much of the ‘show’. I would’ve liked to see more of their relationship.

Juicy, dramatic, and surprisingly sweet, this romance is everything I want from a reality dating TV show and so much more. Krystin and Lauren might be here for the wrong reasons, but every moment of their love story hits just right.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I loved this book and flew through it in one sitting. I realized I like dating show books. I could not put it down.

Thanks to NetGalley and Alcove Press for the ARC!

This book was a fun read for both fans of queer romcoms and the bachelor franchise. As a lesbian who has often found myself thinking about the fact that surely some girls have hooked up in the bachelor mansion, I was so excited to pick this book up.

For being co-written, this book doesn’t have some of the unevenness that I have found with other books with two authors, and there was a clear feeling that the writers (who are partners irl! swoon!) had fun writing this. The parodying elements of the dating show were spot on, I loved the little contestant bios.

I do think that because there was so much rich work around the big set pieces of the show, the central romance sometimes suffered/fell into the background especially during the beginning of the book. As we got more into it though, it was fun to see how these women connected on their own queer journeys.

Overall a fun read!

So I have never seen a reality dating show or thought them interesting, so going into this book I was worried I wouldn’t like it. I have never been so wrong.
It was great! Literally started it at midnight and read it until the wee hours of 3am because I had to know what happened.
I loved Lauren and Kristin. They are adorable and yet relatable in so many ways. Another worry I had was the amount of character la in this novel, dating shows are known for a large cast but the author navigated that wonderfully! I actually felt like I knew a good amount about the side characters from their interactions with each other and the plot. Overall this book was stellar and I enjoyed it so much!

As someone that doesn't love dating shows in real life, this book kept me entertained so I consider it a success. I do think it took a bit longer than needed to get the romance piece as they tried a to really establish the show at the beginning. I think if they had forced the characters together earlier, it would have been a lot easier to draw in most readers. If you stick with it, I think it is definitely worth reading.

I don’t think I was the target audience for this book. I could see someone who really enjoys dating shows possibly enjoying this but for me it was draining. Neither of the main characters are deep. It takes way too long for the romance between the main characters to start. The romance is really the only saving grace of the second half of the book.

"Grumpy/sunshine AND country girl falls for a city girl? on a reality tv show? SURELY there has to be a flaw!!" not for me, nope. I loved this one. I love love, and Here For The Wrong Reasons was truly wonderful. I was STRESSED at times, but I’m so proud of these characters and so happy to have gotten the chance to read this four months ahead of its release. The writing style, while occasionally flippant, was also delightful. A banger!!!

rep: closested lesbian, queer girl who doesn't realize she's queer till she meets LI

spice: a couple graphic sex scenes

I had good experiences with book in the context of reality shows so I was eager to get my hold on this one! Lauren and Krystin had good chemistry, but I wished I saw them in a different context more, and I don;t but the writing althought fast paced wasn't my favorite.
It felt a lot like those good feel movies that you watch as a comfort movie not needing to think to much, so if you want something quick and feel good with charcater development...go for it!

If you enjoy television shows similar to The Bachelor, this has a fascinating premise and good writing. This is obviously fanfiction based on The Bachelor series. You never get to see the two characters interact outside of that context because the entire novel is structured like a season of The Bachelor.

I don't usually watch shows like this and find the concept rather strange (many people competing for one person's affections and pitting against doesn't sit right with me), but this story intrigued me and I found myself not wanting to put it down as we follow the two main characters in discovering who they really are and what they want. If you love reality TV, then this is definitely for you.
