This was so cute!!! I love the concept of the contestants falling in love on a dating show, it's so fun. Thank you for the early read!
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I'm a big fan of "The Bachelor" and all the spinoff shows that came from it. I've seen them all and loved them all. Even when the relationships don't work out in the end I always enjoy the journey.
I can say the same about this book. "Hopelessly Devoted" is the dating show and Josh is the lead. He has 35 women vying for his heart and hoping for a proposal at the end.
Lauren and Krystin are two of those women. Lauren has dubious reasons for being on the show while Krystin's are pure. Throughout the process they both learn things about themselves and what they'll do for love.
I don't know if this has happened on "The Bachelor" before but I'd be shocked if it hasn't. I think you don't always know what you want until it's right in front of you. That's what happened with Lauren and Krystin and while their relationship might not have happened in a traditional way it was so fun to read.
I enjoyed this book a lot and would recommend it.
I have become a Bachelor-inspired-romance-novel fan, and Here for the Wrong Reasons is another fun, flirty book to add to my shelf. I loved the LGBTQ twist on this micro-genre, which made it feel fresh and new.
This is the perfect book for anyone who has ever watched any type of reality dating show. It is funny, sweet and filled with cute romantic moments that will have your squealing and jumping in your seat. If you have loved books like Never Ever Getting Back Together by Sophie Gonzales or The Charm Offensive by Alison Cochrun, then you’ll want to pick this up for yourself asap.

2023 Book 65:
Here For The Wrong Reasons
By Annabel Paulsen & Lydia Wang
Pub Date: 5/21/24
My Rating:⭐⭐⭐⭐
Here For The Wrong Reasons is a rom-com, rivals-to-lovers story about Krystin and Lauren as they compete on a reality tv, Bachelor-type show.
Krystin, a Rodeo Queen from Montana, goes on the show with the purest intentions of finding love and a husband. Lauren, on the other hand, was never there for the right reasons. She wanted to further her career and get eliminated before feelings were involved.
The rivalry starts when Lauren cheats during a group date challenge. Lauren feels bad and tries to win over Krystin with friendship. As they become closer, feelings begin to grow and instead of falling for the leading man, they fall for each other.
Who does Josh propose to and end up with in the end? Will Krystin and Lauren end up together? How will the Hopelessly Devoted fans react to the season ending?
As a former Bachelor watcher, I really enjoyed this story and liked the confessional blurbs throughout. I always wondered if the contestants on the show ever fell for each other so this is a perfect story if you've ever had the same thought.
The lesbian romcom we desperately needed.
In a fun little twist on the bachelor, two contestants fighting for the love of the same man, end up falling for each other. Krystin’s a rodeo queen, and Lauren is a seemly superficial influencer, two people who seemingly have nothing in common. Definitely a must read for fans of love island and the bachelor!
Obviously as this romance takes place on a dating show, where they are both fighting for the same man, there will be heteronormative dating, and I personally felt that they dragged a little too long on the dating show for my taste, but it didn’t bother me too much. I had a blast reading and getting to know the two main characters Krystin and Lauren. Their relationship blossomed very naturally and their chemistry was utterly sizzling.
Big thanks to Netgalley, Alcove Press, and the authors Annabel Paulsen and Lydia Wang for allowing me to read an E-arc of this swoon worthy novel!
This was a really fun plot and I enjoyed reading this one. It was a super cute setting for bachelor fans
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Here for the Wrong Reasons might be my favorite book that I've read this year. It read smoothly and the formatting was fun. Furthermore, I found a lot of points that resignated with my life: spending a chunk of my life in MT, dancing Argentine tango, watching Bachelor esque reality TV shows, mentioning things like Wawa, etc. I also enjoyed that the book had built in reminders of characters with the confessionals. While I don't think it was the most advanced plot, I thoroughly enjoyed that it was not overly tropy or repetitive in that nature. I also like its relatability and lightheartedness. 4.5
I FEEL CRAZY CRAZY. This was actually super good like I genuinely was sucked in and couldn’t put it down. I wish we got to see more of Lauren and Kaytlin actually building up their relationship outside of the competition with Josh but the whole concept and setting was adorable and I loved the plot line. I’m always a sucker for gay reality tv!
I hate the Bachelor universe. I really have no patience for reality TV at all, as I get such painful secondhand embarrassment I have got to turn it off nearly as soon as it plays. The only time I've been remotely interested was went a foreign country's version (I want to say Australia but I can't remember) had a contestant confess her love for another on after being eliminated (I was really hoping to see that here) That being said, I loved this book more than words. Gay panic during mud wrestling. The 'huh maybe i don't like kissing men'. poor Josh, though I couldn't really feel bad for him because with how little time he got to spend with either of the leads to be this close to saying I love you is still batshit insane. The steam, the tension, the angst. I adored this book. If I could see this on the bachelor I might actually watch it.
I liked this a lot! It was surprisingly well written for a dramatic and cheesy love story. I wished Josh had been more than a cardboard cutout of a person, but he showed more personality at the end.
Lauren and Krystin are both using this seasons ‘hopelessly devoted’ in order to get what they want, for one it’s love and a future, for the other that isn’t quite the case, however neither of them expect their journey to go in the direction it does.
Firstly, props to the writer for managing to write a book with so many characters, that is no easy task and I think this was done so well. The short confessionals at the beginning/end of some chapters worked so well in allowing us to get to know different contestants without the book being too long in order to do this.
If you love reality tv then this is definitely for you, personally I don’t usually watch shows like this and find the concept quite strange (lots of people competing for one persons affections and pitting against doesn’t quite sit right with me), however this story intrigued me and I found myself not wanting to put it down as we follow the two main characters in finding themselves and figuring out what they truly want.
My only downside was finding some of the language a little cringey, particularly the main male character. I understand that this was part of his personality but it didn’t make it any easier to read, it does make you wonder that if I got the ick that quickly what made over 30 women want to be with this man, is he as desirable as he’s made out to be?
Anyway, if you love tension, tasteful spice, rivals to lovers and reality shows then pick this one up! (3.5 stars)
A very cute and fun read for fans of the bachelor but with a twist! If you read the charm offensive you will like this as well. Here for the Wrong reasons is a sapphic romance where two contestants on a reality dating show fall for each other instead of the male lead
I liked the premise of the book but as i proceeded I kept loosing interest. The whole plot was basically a script to a dating show. We got sapphic couple at the end of the book but i lost interest before i could reach that part, i was very close to DNFing this book but i pushed through and it was not worth it.
This was a very cute and fun read. Reality tv is my guilty pleasure and this combined my two favorites things, reality tv and romcom books
So if you love The Bachelor, this is a book for you. I’m a fan of the franchise and I feel like this is what the contestants would write about their experience.
The book goes through the contestants and for some reason I kept getting the main two, Lauren and Krystin mixed up throughout the first 40 pages or so but eventually got it down.
Cute, fun, easy rom com read and would say is a great pallet cleanser for switching up genres or taking a thriller break. Would give this a 3/5 for me.
Thanks NetGalley and publishers for the ARC!
Cute, light, fun. Juuuuust enough bite to keep it interesting. Shout out to my MVP Delia, love a bitter bestie - where’s her sequel? 😂
A fun romp through reality TV dating and out the other side as the two heroines figure out what they want, what's worth fighting for, and who they really are. I liked the sapphic romance here of the two leads with very different backgrounds, who both were closeted in one way or another. There's a lot here for anyone who loves reality dating shows (and even those who don't, like myself). Pick it up for a happy ending and some very funny dating exploits.
I just was not a huge fan of this. I felt like it focused too much on the bachelor side of things. I didn't really care about the dude.
Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this book in exchange for an honest review!
This was such a fun read! I enjoyed every moment of this book. I did worry i would get confused with such large ensemble but it was really easy to follow!
