The lesbian romcom we desperately needed.

In a fun little twist on the bachelor, two contestants fighting for the love of the same man, end up falling for each other. Krystin’s a rodeo queen, and Lauren is a seemly superficial influencer, two people who seemingly have nothing in common. Definitely a must read for fans of love island and the bachelor!

Obviously as this romance takes place on a dating show, where they are both fighting for the same man, there will be heteronormative dating, and I personally felt that they dragged a little too long on the dating show for my taste, but it didn’t bother me too much. I had a blast reading and getting to know the two main characters Krystin and Lauren. Their relationship blossomed very naturally and their chemistry was utterly sizzling.

Big thanks to Netgalley, Alcove Press, and the authors Annabel Paulsen and Lydia Wang for allowing me to read an E-arc of this swoon worthy novel!

This was a really fun plot and I enjoyed reading this one. It was a super cute setting for bachelor fans

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Here for the Wrong Reasons might be my favorite book that I've read this year. It read smoothly and the formatting was fun. Furthermore, I found a lot of points that resignated with my life: spending a chunk of my life in MT, dancing Argentine tango, watching Bachelor esque reality TV shows, mentioning things like Wawa, etc. I also enjoyed that the book had built in reminders of characters with the confessionals. While I don't think it was the most advanced plot, I thoroughly enjoyed that it was not overly tropy or repetitive in that nature. I also like its relatability and lightheartedness. 4.5

I FEEL CRAZY CRAZY. This was actually super good like I genuinely was sucked in and couldn’t put it down. I wish we got to see more of Lauren and Kaytlin actually building up their relationship outside of the competition with Josh but the whole concept and setting was adorable and I loved the plot line. I’m always a sucker for gay reality tv!

I hate the Bachelor universe. I really have no patience for reality TV at all, as I get such painful secondhand embarrassment I have got to turn it off nearly as soon as it plays. The only time I've been remotely interested was went a foreign country's version (I want to say Australia but I can't remember) had a contestant confess her love for another on after being eliminated (I was really hoping to see that here) That being said, I loved this book more than words. Gay panic during mud wrestling. The 'huh maybe i don't like kissing men'. poor Josh, though I couldn't really feel bad for him because with how little time he got to spend with either of the leads to be this close to saying I love you is still batshit insane. The steam, the tension, the angst. I adored this book. If I could see this on the bachelor I might actually watch it.

I liked this a lot! It was surprisingly well written for a dramatic and cheesy love story. I wished Josh had been more than a cardboard cutout of a person, but he showed more personality at the end.

Lauren and Krystin are both using this seasons ‘hopelessly devoted’ in order to get what they want, for one it’s love and a future, for the other that isn’t quite the case, however neither of them expect their journey to go in the direction it does.

Firstly, props to the writer for managing to write a book with so many characters, that is no easy task and I think this was done so well. The short confessionals at the beginning/end of some chapters worked so well in allowing us to get to know different contestants without the book being too long in order to do this.

If you love reality tv then this is definitely for you, personally I don’t usually watch shows like this and find the concept quite strange (lots of people competing for one persons affections and pitting against doesn’t quite sit right with me), however this story intrigued me and I found myself not wanting to put it down as we follow the two main characters in finding themselves and figuring out what they truly want.

My only downside was finding some of the language a little cringey, particularly the main male character. I understand that this was part of his personality but it didn’t make it any easier to read, it does make you wonder that if I got the ick that quickly what made over 30 women want to be with this man, is he as desirable as he’s made out to be?

Anyway, if you love tension, tasteful spice, rivals to lovers and reality shows then pick this one up! (3.5 stars)

A very cute and fun read for fans of the bachelor but with a twist! If you read the charm offensive you will like this as well. Here for the Wrong reasons is a sapphic romance where two contestants on a reality dating show fall for each other instead of the male lead

I liked the premise of the book but as i proceeded I kept loosing interest. The whole plot was basically a script to a dating show. We got sapphic couple at the end of the book but i lost interest before i could reach that part, i was very close to DNFing this book but i pushed through and it was not worth it.

This was a very cute and fun read. Reality tv is my guilty pleasure and this combined my two favorites things, reality tv and romcom books

So if you love The Bachelor, this is a book for you. I’m a fan of the franchise and I feel like this is what the contestants would write about their experience.

The book goes through the contestants and for some reason I kept getting the main two, Lauren and Krystin mixed up throughout the first 40 pages or so but eventually got it down.

Cute, fun, easy rom com read and would say is a great pallet cleanser for switching up genres or taking a thriller break. Would give this a 3/5 for me.

Thanks NetGalley and publishers for the ARC!

Cute, light, fun. Juuuuust enough bite to keep it interesting. Shout out to my MVP Delia, love a bitter bestie - where’s her sequel? 😂

A fun romp through reality TV dating and out the other side as the two heroines figure out what they want, what's worth fighting for, and who they really are. I liked the sapphic romance here of the two leads with very different backgrounds, who both were closeted in one way or another. There's a lot here for anyone who loves reality dating shows (and even those who don't, like myself). Pick it up for a happy ending and some very funny dating exploits.

I just was not a huge fan of this. I felt like it focused too much on the bachelor side of things. I didn't really care about the dude.

This was such a fun read! I enjoyed every moment of this book. I did worry i would get confused with such large ensemble but it was really easy to follow!

This was a fun read for anyone who loves reality TV, dating shows, and especially The Bachelor (even if it's a hate-watch). I did wish the romance between Krystin and Lauren would've started sooner in the book, and there was a bit too much focus on some of the more minor cast members, but it was still entertaining. It just felt maybe more like a book about a reality TV show that ended up having lesbians than it did a lesbian romance novel set on a reality TV dating show, which was what I was hoping for.

I am a huge fan of trashy reality tv, especially the ones with dating elements in them! I have also wondered what it would be like for two of the contestants to fall in love, especially if they were supposed to be going after the main bachelor/bachelorette.

Boy did I get my wonderings answered with this sapphic romance! And it is needless to say that I absolutely ate this up and LOVED it!

Watching Lauren C. go through this experience, knowing that she was just there to expand her fame was amusing and honest. (Seeing that is my opinion of a lot of reality stars.) It was fun to watch her calculate her movements, and I couldn't help but root for her. Her calculating movements made me laugh and brought me back to watching Big Brother.

Krystin on the other hand was there for the whole romantic whirlwind. Currently a Rodeo Queen and not really knowing what was the next step for her, marriage seemed like a good option. Perceiving a deep pit in her stomach as butterflies is some next level gaslighting. But I can understand how dedicating yourself so deeply in something and wanting your heart to fall into place can be.

Watching Lauren not being able to help herself but looking at Krystin, and noticing all the little things about her, was oh so sweet. It was giving: wanting forbidden fruit. And then in turn watching Krystin having feelings towards Lauren while not actually realizing it, very much a thing I have done.

All in all, I had a grand time and will probably be rereading it!!!

I like watching Bachelor Nation content, and I always wish things could get more queer, so this premise really drew me in. The book delivered! I thought it was a really fun (though sometimes stressful) read.

---The Breakdown---

Lauren C. isn't actually interested in Hopelessly Devoted's new leading man, Josh Rosen. In fact, she isn't interested in men at all. But being a contestant on the popular dating show is a chance for her to boost her platform and further her influencer career. She never expects that she might find love on Hopelessly Devoted after all. Rodeo queen Krystin has never had a serious boyfriend. She's just never felt that spark with the men she's dated. She's hoping Josh will be the exception. If only she could stop thinking about her prickly competitor, Lauren C....

cw: compulsory heterosexuality, maybe infidelity (MCs keep dating/kissing Josh even after getting together)

The Characters: Krystin is a really likable character. She's genuine, grounded, and has a good heart. Lauren might be more controversial. She is somewhat manipulative and calculating, is on the show to chase fame, and lashes out whenever she's hurting. But I did think that Lauren generally treated Krystin well and was patient and understanding with her. I liked both Krystin and Lauren and could empathize with both of them. There was a large cast of characters in this book, and especially at the start, I had trouble keeping up with all the women in the house. My favorite side character might be Josh, surprisingly, though it might also be because he is more fleshed out. I didn't like the vibes from Krystin's "best friend" Delia, and I wasn't fully satisfied with how the story addressed that plotline.

The Romance: I don't know if Krystin and Lauren would actually work in real life - they both have issues to sort through and I'm not sure how compatible their personalities actually are. But I was definitely rooting for them as I read the book. They had great chemistry and there were some great emotional and angsty scenes. One thing I was slightly frustrated by was how Krystin and Lauren continued dating Josh on the show even though they were at a good point with each other. I know it added to the final drama, but it didn't necessarily align with the feelings they seemed to have for each other.

The Plot: The plot is presented in the format of a Bachelor-type show, with challenges and eliminations every week. The first couple weeks were a bit slow to me, mainly because there weren't many interactions between Lauren and Krystin. Then once they had their first major interaction, things picked up and I was engaged the rest of the way.

The Writing: Easy to read!

All in all: While not the perfect book or love story, this was certainly entertaining. Would recommend as long as you can stand a little drama!

Krystin knows exactly what she wants: a husband, a horse, and a place to hang all her competitive rodeo blue ribbons. But when none of the eligible bachelors in Montana end up being right for her, she turns to reality TV…….

Lauren has never done anything for the right reasons—and she’s definitely not on Hopelessly Devoted to win Josh’s heart…..

READ IT. It’s good it’s funny and I give it 9 stars if I could!

If you are looking for an easy read LGBTQ+ book and you enjoy reality TV, then this is for you.
A fun book with likeable characters and a great storyline.
Could this of been better? Yes, definitely.
I think it was long winded at times, especially at the start. And I think the relationship built very fast. I would of loved to of seen less of the show and more of the relationship. It felt like the relationship was a side story to the main plot, which was the show. And I don’t think that’s what the author intended.
That being said, I came out of this book with a smile on my face.
