Cat and Mice is a cute and simple book to read to the little ones or to be read by the learning reader.
Three pages may not be enjoyable for a sensitive child but the rest of the book is pleasant and the illustrations adorable.
Princess Fuzzypants here: The fact that the kitty involved happens to be a very cute red tabby cat (no bias here at all) makes the artwork even sweeter. The mice are adorable too as is the dog. The story is great for very young readers to read on their own or to be read.
It is a short book but filled with lots of charm. I think that any young reader, human or feline, will enjoy it. Five purrs and two paws up.
For the beginner readers, this is a great book. With beautiful illustrations about mice, cat and dog, this book will help children engage in reading. They will learn more about the double-e sounds in this wonderful way. The changing of mouse into mice will also come easier for them. This is a good start to love reading.
Cat and Mice is a short, simple story about a cat chasing three mice. Perfect for preschool-aged children, it uses rhyming words with the long "e" sound and two or three-word sentences to tell the story concisely. It does however seem like a page is missing before the cat agrees, because I saw that it was scared of the dog but I didn't understand what it was agreeing to. As for the illustrations, Pat Schories is one of my favorite illustrators and I appreciate the bright colors and contrast while also leaving white space to easily read the text.
This is a quick fun read about cats, mice and dogs!
There are few words making it easy to read for younger ages and cute illustrations
Just one word - adorable!
Loved the illustrations and rhyming verses. Early readers will certainly enjoy this cute story.
One of the shortest and most concise stories, for some of the shortest readers. The mice want to leave their hole, the cat wants to get at the mice – what could stand in its way? Here crystal clarity, in visuals and in the none-more-brief sentences, are virtues, but this doesn’t forget the need for an actual plot and the reason even the very young will choose more entertaining volumes over others. A strong four stars.
This was an adorable children's picture book with a very simple story about cats and mice. The illustrations were a delight, and the story was told in short rhyming sentences. If you're looking for a sweet and simple book to/with your child, this is definitely a good choice.

My kid asked for a second reading, and that means AUTOMATIC 5-STARS!
This is a good book for introducing some new words and sounds, but just a few. A little challenge, for when your kid is just beyond Bob books. The sentences are very simple, Noun Verbs, or occasionally Three Nouns Verb.
Actually, with the introduction of the Three Nouns Verb, kids are taught the odd pluralization rules of mouse/mice. They’ve likely HEARD it and unconsciously already pluralize correctly, but this book lets them SEE how the words change. And, as we have some verbs as singular and some as plural, we can see how verbs themselves conjugate a bit differently. It’s not an overt lesson, but the usage is phenomenal for such an early reader!
Also, got to praise that artwork, by Pat Schories, the artist for the “Biscuit” series. I have to say, it was seeing that art style that had me clicking request, and I am so glad I did! Kitten and Biscuit could easily live in the same drawn universe, and it’s really comforting to see.
While the usefulness of the book is on a limited time period, as are most early readers, if your child likes cats, this is worth the purchase. Even after they move onto harder books, the humor of this one will bring them back dozens of times for a giggle. Peep peep peep!

This is a great book for young readers. My daughter loved the rhyming and beautiful pictures. She loves cats and highly recommends this book.
A short and simple rhyming story for new readers. I loved the illustrations! I think this book is a good choice to read to toddlers and a great first book for kids just learning to read.
First off, thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read an advanced copy of this book.
The story was short and cute, written in simple words, easy to understand for a child who’s just started on their reading adventure. The illustrations were adorable and the characters charming. What I would suggest though, is to add a new page in the middle, right before the cat agrees, to show the dog’s demands, and have the story flow a little bit better.
Such an adorable little book for new readers!! Would be great for practice. Also my daughter loved hearing the story
Cat and Mice is a cute story for toddlers about a cat who acts like he's sleeping. When three mice come out of the peephole, the cat jumps for them and catches one of them. Lucky for the mouse he caught, the Dog comes and the cat lets the mouse go. Adorable story, fun illustrations. Perfect for toddlers and beginning readers with the simple-to-read words!
