This book started off really well and I loved the English countryside setting and thought the characters were portrayed really well. The twists are quite obvious throughout but this didn’t stop me enjoying it. I liked how the story was told by 4 narrators although it did get slightly repetitive hearing the same timeline from different view points. I didn’t really understand the ending but this may just have been me! Overall, I really enjoyable read.

This was my first book by this author and it definitely won't be my last! What starts out as a simple case of a long lost relative wanting to know a bit more of the house and family she didn't know she had turns into a case of who can you really trust and who can you really believe. The plot twists were so unexpected and interesting that I kept saying I'll read just a few more pages each time just to see how each little twist played out and to see how each character would react! I do have to say the ending was one of my favorites I've come across, definitely felt each character got just what they deserved!

The House Guest by Alison James is another twisty and compelling read from an author whose work rarely misses the mark.

Juliet and Hugh are living a privileged and contented life in Hugh's ancestral home, Mullens End, when Juliet is contacted out of the blue by a woman who claims to be a cousin of Hugh's. As Juliet and her husband have no children together, Alexis arrives to announce herself as the next in line to inherit the home should anything happen to Hugh, and her unexpected presence will soon shake things up at the previously docile estate.

This is a page-turner that has the feel of a domestic thriller, with ample twists thrown in to keep you on your toes.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for an ARC.

The House Guest by Alison James is another amazing story that I couldn’t get enough of.
I’ve read multiple books by James and have enjoyed most of them. Her newest title was no different.
I will continue to pick up her work because she knows how to keep me hooked till very end.

I actually quite enjoyed this book and was very happy with the way it ended. This story is full of lies, deception, affairs and backstabbing characters, it was a thrill to see how it all went down. The multiple POVs definitely helped add more context to the story and understand the plat a lot better. Some plot twists I guessed rather quickly, but was thrown for a loop on plenty other other ones.

Thank you NetGalley, Bookouture and author Alison James for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This book was my first Alison James book and it definitely won’t be my last. I found the premise of this book enthralling right from the first page. There were a few twists and turns which I wasn’t expecting. It was told from multiple POVS however I found it quite repetitive. The development of the characters was amazing. They were all very powerful characters, Juliet and Hugh appear to have the perfect life, with their perfect marriage and their perfect house, Mullens End but that couldn’t be further from the truth and this psychological thriller reveals all and I’ll be really honest here, I was 100% satisfied with how it ended.

I rated this a 4.5/5

Wow, what an exciting ride!

Hugh and Juliet Mullen's welcome Alexis into their home, after learning that she is Hugh's distant cousin. Juliet begins to regret allowing Alexis to stay with them, as she grows closer and closer to her husband. Juliet is worried about her marriage. Who did she let into her home?

Complicating everything, is the Mullen's residence, which is handled by a trust. Since Hugh and Juliet have no children, Alexis is next in line to inherit the property, after Hugh's death.

What an addicting read! I could not put this one down. It was fast-paced and keeps you on the edge of your seat. The character development was excellent. I felt fully immersed in the plot. Each character was so well-written.

The book is told from multiple perspectives, which really helps amp up the character development and suspense. The book was loaded with twists and turns. As someone who reads a lot of thrillers, it was refreshing to read a unique plot line! Highly recommend this one. Cannot wait to read more by Alison James!

The Houseguest was okay. It started off slow for me and picked up only when the POV changed.

It wasn’t a bad plot at all, but I just found it to be very predictable. I knew what was going to happen very, very early on in the book and kept hoping for a twist that would surprise me, but no twists ever really came. I guess there were “twists” but you could just see them coming.

I didn’t really consider it a psychological thriller. Maybe a marital drama. So if you enjoy those kinds of books, you’ll probably like this.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for letting me read The House Guest.

Another one from this author that I really enjoyed. There were lots of twists and turns to this story with a few flawed characters. I did guess the ending of the story and thought they may be another twist but there wasn’t . I would definitely recommend this and give it 5 stars . Can’t wait for the next from this author

The writing and setting of this the story gives a classic literature feeling to the novel. As the tension and the story unfolds we move into a modern thriller. The male characters in this book are very dislikable and there are clear notes of misogyny coming from them. This book has a very unique way of storytelling. It has multiple character povs where you cover the same story but from different perspectives. This was a really compelling way of telling each characters side and a good way to reveal the shock factors of the book. This felt very similar to Claire Douglas, so if you like her books this will be down your street.

This book took me by surprise a bit; a few things I pegged early on, but the way the story unraveled was a bit unexpected. When I wasn't reading it, I found myself wanting to get back to it to know what was going to happen next.

This was a really good psychological thriller with lots going on throughout the book . Told from the points of view of the four main characters I really enjoyed reading the perspective from each character . A well written book with great albeit unlikeable characters this is one that I really recommend .

This one definitely wasn't for me. I found the characters rather flat and the plot extremely slow. I would not recommend.

It was a little hard to get into and felt like it took forever. But once it got started good I couldn't put it down. So many unexpected twists. I loved it. Definitely giving Fredia McFadden vibes.

Rating 4.5/5 rounded up to 5 as it deserves 5 more than just a 4.
This was my first book from Alison James and I was hooked instantly, I did not want to put this book down. All the twists and turns made me feel engrossed in the book and made me want to keep reading more and more. Some of the twists I did see it coming but still the writing style captivated me to keep reading.
I love when there are multiple POV's, just makes it more enticing in my eyes to see what the characters are thinking in a certain scenario, so I loved that we got 4 different POVs.
I am definitely recommending this book once it comes out on November 1st.

Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for the chance to review this ARC.
