Painfully slow!!!!!!! It took forever to get to any meat in the story and I was quite bored. Disappointing.
Thank you NetGalley, Bookouture and Haley Smith for this arc for free in exchange for an honest review.
I honestly enjoyed this book. It had some good twists and turns that had me on the edge of my seat and made me keep questioning things. I definitely wanted more character development but this was overall a great physiological thriller novel.
I really enjoyed this novel. I'm new to this author, and this is the first book I've read. This is a must-read book, a suspenseful thriller. Becka, the main character, is involved in an accident and suffers from amnesia, unaware of her identity, relationships, and near-drowning experience. Her husband, Freddie, has been at her bedside and is clearly head over heels for her. Following a brief hospital stay, she went back to her home. Although things don't seem perfect, there's a palpable sense of something being wrong. Certain things come back to Becka through memories, pictures, dreams, and a little old lady next door.
There were several things that had me questioning and kept me on the edge of my seat. I had to decipher the truth behind the deception, the hidden secrets, and the ultimate conclusion.
I was hoping for a more satisfying ending and deeper character development. Anyone who enjoys thrillers or wants to explore new authors should definitely give this a try.

Freddie! - The most f**ked up character in the world! The exact way to win back the girl of your dreams! 🙄😂
This was fantastic! I loved seeing how Becka gradually unpicked Freddie’s web of deceit!! Though I’m not sure who was worse, him or Magdalena!
If you are after a thriller that keeps you on your toes and shouting at characters, add this to your TBR!!
This is the second book I have read from this author and I feel like this book is better than her debut book in general.
Becka wakes up in the hospital with no memory of what happened to her. A man who calls himself as Freddie is beside her, telling her that she had an accident and that she and Freddie are dating. Becka is trying to relive the memories before the accident but the more she tries to relive the memories, more she realizes that something is amiss as she starts regaining her memories. Is Becka who she really is? Why is Freddie trying to protect and save her?
The pacing of the story was really good. This story kind of reminded me of Before I Go to Sleep and the whole story as a whole made the reader feel like they are at the edge of the seat while reading the book. There are multiple POVs in the book and most of these characters are unreliable narrators. But there are twists and turns along the way, Though it started a little slow at the beginning, it started to become fast paced by the middle of the book. The ending was really great and unexpected and overall, this book worth five stars!
Many thanks to Bookouture for inviting me to be a part of the blog tour. Many thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. The review is based on my honest opinion only.
I received an arc copy of this book from Net Galley in exchange for my honest opinion of it. This book was really good and held my interest. The first half of the book is mostly told by the same person and it does get a little confusing when it is told by a few different people but the ending definitely did bring it all together and the book did have some good twists too.
Becka suffers memory loss after being in an accident. Her husband Freddie takes her home and cares for her. But is he really who he says he is? As her memory seems to come back in flashes and people around her tell her different things she realises a terrible truth.
Such a Loving Couple was a compelling and emotionally twisted psychological thriller that had me hooked from the beginning to the end.
From the short chapters and well developed characters to the mystery and suspense, this was an unputdownable read. I loved the multiple PoVs and the author's ability to loop them together to build up the tension and finally put all the puzzle pieces together made this an absolute page-turner for me.
Thank you @bookouture for having me on the #booksontour and @netgalley for an early digital copy to read and review.
This book started off a little slow for me but then it quickly picks up. The first part is told only from Becka’s point of view. Then later on we also get points of view from other characters. I like that we got her point of view because we were able to learn more about the situation that Becka is in, how it happened, and why it happened. I honestly thought I had it all figured out, but there was something on more sinister than I thought!
I can’t even imagine waking up in a hospital bed and not remembering anything about myself. I think author did such a great job portraying Becka’s trials and tribulations with her memory. It was very believable.
I loved the way that the book ended. I thought the finals scenes were fantastic, full action, with each character getting what they deserved.
‘They’re everything to each other. Until she remembers the truth…’- cover tagline.
My thanks to Bookouture for an eARC via NetGalley of ‘Such a Loving Couple’ by Hayley Smith. I was also invited to take part in the publication week blog tour.
This psychological thriller was the very essence of a page turner. As a result I would recommend that it is best to read it ‘cold’. So just a few details for context.
A woman awakes in a hospital room, surrounded by beeping machines and completely disoriented. At first she doesn’t remember anything including the identity of the man that the nurses tell her has been by her bedside since the accident. Eventually flashes of her memory return including the realisation that her name is Becka.
Yet she doesn’t remember anything about her life though the man, Freddie, assures her that they have been happily married for seventeen years and he has the receipts. They have a beautiful house and a seemingly perfect life. Yet something still feels wrong. Becka wonders if her memories will ever return and if she will discover the truth. No further details to avoid spoilers.
Like many psychological thrillers the narrative perspective moves between a number of characters and includes some flashbacks to earlier events that fill in important details. In Part One the focus is solely upon Becka though in Parts Two onward other characters contribute to the narrative.
Following the main text there’s a taster for Hayley Smith’s debut novel, ‘The Perfect Girlfriend’.
Overall, I found ‘Such a Loving Couple’ an engaging thriller with plenty of satisfying twists and turns. After such a positive experience I am keen to read her first novel and plan to keep a look out for her future projects.
4.5 stars rounded up to 5.
Oh Hayley Smith, you are what nightmares are made of
I mean that in the best way possible....
Such A Loving Couple, has been one of my most favored books I have read lately.
Smith narrates a fast paced, suspenseful thriller that will have you questioning every direction you are thrown into. There are no shortage of twists. I was kept in suspense and became addicted to each turn of the page.
This is a book you can easily finish in one sitting, and you are going to want to! There is no way once you start you will be able to put this one down.
Check out this teaser :
A man smiles warmly at me from the end of my bed. ‘Honey, I’ve been so worried,’ he says gently. ‘Do you remember me? I’m your husband.’ My blood runs cold. I don’t know where I am, or who I am. All I know is I’ve never seen this man before…
As he packs my things, the nurses tell me Freddie hasn’t left my bedside since the accident. He’s so loving, so kind, we seem like the perfect couple. But deep down I know something isn’t right.
Then flashes of memory come back. First my name, then the terrifying moments before the crash – the pouring rain, a sudden scream. But most heartbreaking of all are the haunting images of a blue-eyed little girl, who is nowhere to be seen…
Freddie is determined to keep me safe. But if we aren’t the really loving couple he wants us to be, why am I here? What does Freddie want? Who is the child? And how far will I have to go, to discover the truth?
Well, this was the second ****** up book in a row that I’ve read, with such a brilliant plot that I couldn’t put it down. I was desperate to just read and read and read so I could discover how everything would pan out.
It’s not often books cause me to talk out loud, but this one did. A lot! Usually in relation to Freddie, who was a complete cockwomble (Google that word if you don’t know what it means, it’s my word of the moment)! It was scary how he could just essentially kidnap someone and take them into his life - and never want to let them go!
Becka was a great main character as she slowly begins to piece her life back together after an accident left her with little memory of her life before. She and Grace were probably the only decent characters though, almost everyone else was messed up with a rotten core and a twisted agenda.
I haven’t read a Hayley Smith book before, but I’m now on the lookout for more. If a decent domestic thriller is your cup of tea, then I’d start pouring now! It’s definitely worth a read.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read and review Such A Loving Couple by Hayley Smith.
After an accident, Becka suffers a head injury and loses her memory. She wakes up in the hospital remembering absolutely nothing from the past. She finally remembers her own name. A man, Fredidie, comes to the hospital, claiming to be her husband. Becka has not a clue who he is. However, Freddie has the paperwork, proving that he is her husband.
Becka goes home with Freddie, trying to get back to her old life. As time goes on, Becka starts to remember little snippets from her old life. While it's still not enough to fully remember things, it starts to make her suspicious.
Freddie is determined to make everything perfect. But Becka begins to wonder if they are this truly loving couple. Did she doing something? Did Freddie do something? Has Becka made a mistake trusting Freddie?
This is a thrilling and quick read. I was hooked from the first page and was unable to put this one down. This is my first read from Hayley Smith. She does a great job throwing in a bunch of twists and turns, but keeps enough hidden to have you guessing. Definitely looking forward to more reads by Hayley Smith!
Thank you Bookouture and NetGalley for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
😱 This is the easiest five star I have given in a while when it comes to thrillers
I started reading and was pleasantly surprised. There are an incredible number of dark twists and turns and enough creepy breathless moments that made my heart stop
I honestly read it in one sitting as every chapter left me wanting more and more
I would recommend it fully to all thriller lovers out there
If you're looking for a mostly fast-paced psychological thriller that seems eerily entirely realistic, pick up Such a Loving Couple by Hayley Smith. The book features a story that revolves around a tragic situation and the amnesia that follows. It includes multiple POVs, which is always a favorite approach of mine, and a few twists and turns that will leave you guessing.
The reason it wasn't a five-star review for me was Toby's character and storyline. I had a tough time believing his actions and reactions....though I suppose it wouldn't be a psychological thriller without one (or two! three?) unhinged characters.
All in all, this is a strong book and I would recommend to anyone who enjoys psychological thrillers!
Another new author to me and another to add to my favourites list, a great psychological thriller!
Becka awakens in a hospital room with no idea how she got there, it was difficult for her to even remember her own name to start with. Across the room from her sits a man, she doesn’t recognise him, but he tells her he is Freddie, her husband, but Becka doesn’t remember him or their marriage at all. Slowly she finds out she has been in an accident and her memory of anything before waking up in the hospital is gone. Freddie dotes on her and seems like the perfect husband but while her body heals from the accident her memories are still lost. Once Becka is discharged home from the hospital to the care of Freddie she starts to notice that some things aren’t adding up. Why are the only clothes of hers in the house smaller sized than they should be and also, she feels they are not her style?! Things get even more confusing when she discovers a cupboard full of baking equipment and her neighbour tells her that she had a baking business and used to make amazing cakes and yet Becka remembers nothing. Things take a sinister turn when a young girl keeps turning up at the house looking for her mother and suddenly Freddie talks about a crime being committed but is vague about the details and then becomes very eager to move house, as far away as possible from where they are now. Freddie has an answer for everything Becka asks but is he as perfect as he seems and can Becka trust him with the answers he is giving her?!
This was my first book by Hayley Smith and definitely not my last. I was very intrigued early on, and I felt so sorry for Becka but very suspicious of Freddie. Two of the characters I thought were really despicable, however I won’t say more as this is a spoiler free review. I thought the story was very cleverly written and I loved how it all came together in the last quarter of the book. Plus, just when I thought one of the despicable characters couldn’t get any worse, they did indeed do just that, right at the end of the book.
Overall, a great psychological thriller that totally deserved 5 stars. I have bought Hayley Smiths first book “The Perfect Girlfriend” and can’t wait to see what she writes next. I highly recommend this one.
Thank you to NetGalley, Hayley Smith and Bookouture my advanced reading copy. Out now.
Read this if you like:
MC with amnesia
thriller version of The vow
revenge
multiple POVs
noisy neighbors
obsession
The story starts very mysterious with Becka waking up with amnesia and not knowing what happened our recognizing her loved ones. This gives a lot of mysterious vibes and keeps you invested to get answers. Unfortunately the pace kept really slow throughout most of the story until the last few chapters.
The story is divided in 3 parts and for me the tension only builds up at the end of the second part. Luckily, Freddie's strangeness triggers your curiosity enough to get through the slow parts.
Normally I note some keywords in a notebook while reading to write and compose my review afterwards, but sadly this wasn’t the case with this one as I missed action and change of scene.
The ending makes up for a lot, it gives you action, unseen twists and complete closure.
Even though this story wasn't completely my thing, I'm glad I didn’t gave up.
Thank you @netgalley & @bookouture for this ARC.
3,5 ☆
Oh I do love a good domestic suspense thriller and this book certainly ticked all the boxes for me. It’s one suspenseful read filled to the brim with twists and turns. Right from the start I was intrigued by the story and knew I would read this in one sitting. The characters were all really well formed and developed, something I love in a book is good character development and this book certainly had that. This is a book I highly recommend and I guarantee once you start it you won’t want to put it down .

During the book Hayley and Gandid build the tension and suspense perfectly and lead the readers up to some extremely explosive twists that I would never have seen coming. I can't say more than that as I don't want to spoil it for future readers so if you want to know you'll have to grab yourself a copy!! You won't regret it!!
This is one of the few books that I have listened 100% on Audiobook. If I listen to a book on audiobook I usually also read the physical book between but for the second time I listened to the whole book and I was impressed! I must say a HUGE congratulations to the narrator Gandida who did a great job bringing this story to life. I would listen to it in the car and while walking at any opportunity and Gandida did a fantastic job on both male and female characters voices!!! I'm not only looking forward to reading more books by Hayley but also to listening to more books narrated by Gandida!
Just like with the storyline the characters come to life with Hayley's fantastic and evocative writing skills and Gandida's fantastic and realistic narrative skills. They are well rounded, well filled out, realistic and strong making them all the more believable. They were also all very complex and the further I got into the book and the more I got to know them it felt like I was discovering more layers the more I read. My heart absolutely went out to Becka and Charlotte who went through so much between them. I couldn't abide Toby who was just an absolute bell of ends!!!! Gandida did a fantastic job narrating different voices for them and between that and Hayley giving them unique and individual personalities they all came to life. Regardless whether I loved or hated them I was invested in them all and they all created this fantastic and nail biting page turner. Hayley and Gandida really have done an amazing job constructing an addictive and explosive psychological thriller with fantastic and varied characters that you just won't be able to put down!!
Congratulations Hayley on an an absolutely explosive success!!! This is the exact reason that I would like to welcome you to my favourite author club!! Here's to many more successes 🥂!!!
Clear your schedules before picking this up as you will not be able to put it down!!!
Make sure you read to the very end of the book to read the prologue and first chapter of Hayley's 'The Ex Perfect Girlfriend' which promises to be just as addictive and explosive as this one.
Overall an absolutely page turning, addictive, gripping and explosive must read that will keep you addicted from the very start to the fantastic ending!!!

Woah. The last quarter of the book was insane. My husband kept trying to tell me about election results, and I was trying desperately to get back to the book! What a twist at the end. Now I’m rethinking things…
I highly recommend this one! There are a few sex scenes, but nothing’s explicit, and it’s easy to skip a page and move on. I’ll definitely be checking out more of the author’s work.
