What an excellent book! The writing is so, so good that I was immediately drawn in to the story. In the first few chapters I really felt as if I was the person in that hospital bed. The doubts, twists and turns were incredible and I read the whole book in a day. The plot was just about believable, and the pace and tension were brilliant. I was a little bit disappointed with the ending as it seemed too convenient and unrealistic, but apart from that it was a thoroughly engrossing read. Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the opportunity to read and review.

Such a Loving Couple by Haley Smith Reviewed October 31, 2023 – 4 Stars
Name of Book: Such a Loving Couple
Author: Hayley Smith
Genre: Psychological Thriller
Publisher: Bookouture
Pub Date: November 8, 2023
My Rating: 4. Stars
Pages: 345

Becka wakes up in the hospital not knowing who she is or what has happened. Freddie visits her every day and says he’s her husband but she can’t remember anything including him.
Once Becka is well enough she returns home and find bits and pieces of her memory returning. However things don’t quite seem right…

The book is divided into three parts, told from POV of foul-mouth unlikeable nasty characters
(oops my opinion as I have a low tolerance for overused f-bombs!)-
I read a lot of thrillers and when I started this the story it didn’t seem so different. However in Part Two when Magdalena ‘Mags’ tells us about being friends with Becka in high school and a situation happened that had her so angry she told Becka to watch her back – and vowed revenge – Hymn - It appears she continue to carry a grudge.

Story then took on different direction for me and I couldn’t put it down.
The characters overlapped and the end had me reading as fast as my eyes could focus!

I am a big fan of psychological thrillers and expect twists and turns.
Yep Ms. Smith delivered!
This is author, Haley Smith's second novel and mine as well. I read [book: The Perfect Girlfriend].
Now looking forward to her third!

Want to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for this early eGalley.

But something doesn't seem quite ride as Becka is trying to piece together her past. There are so many unexpected twists in this story, right up until the very end! The story-telling is fantastic. I couldn't put this book down! 100% recommend!

Synopsis (From Netgalley, the provider of the book to review)
*******************************************************

I blink open my eyes, taking in bright lights and a white room. A man smiles warmly at me from the end of my bed. ‘Honey, I’ve been so worried,’ he says gently. ‘Do you remember me? I’m your husband.’ My blood runs cold. I don’t know where I am, or who I am. All I know is I’ve never seen this man before…

As he packs my things, the nurses tell me Freddie hasn’t left my bedside since the accident I was in days ago. They tell me I’m lucky. We seem like the perfect couple, and together we’ll figure out what happened. So I go home to a beautiful house with a fancy marble kitchen and manicured garden that is supposedly ours. But deep down I know something isn’t right. Even though my memories are gone, this doesn’t feel like my life.

Slowly, flashes of memory come back. First the accident – the pouring rain, a swerving car, a sudden scream. Somebody whispering, ‘ I’ll love you forever ’. But most heartbreaking of all are the haunting memories of a blue-eyed little girl. Is she my little girl? Was she in the accident too? Or is she in terrible danger?

Freddie is determined to keep me safe and hide me from the world. But I can’t shake the feeling that we aren’t the loving couple he wants us to be and that beyond this house a precious child needs me now more than ever. So why am I here? What does Freddie want? And how far will I have to go, to discover the truth?

A great quick read of a book that overflows with deep, dark AND probably should not be shared secrets that will suck you in from page one to end. Highly recommended!

What an incredibly gripping and emotionally complex psychological thriller that kept me spellbound until the conclusion! Hayley Smith's first book that I've delved into lived up to my expectations.

The suspense, enigma, vibrant depictions, lively sequences, taut atmosphere, intense conflicts, concealed truths, deceit, covetousness, and rapid tempo, along with concise chapters and an innovative storyline, all contributed to this outstanding thriller.

I was completely absorbed from the outset and found it impossible to put down. My enthusiasm for this book knows no bounds.

𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀: i read this author’s debut novel '𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗚𝗶𝗿𝗹𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗱 and i was extremely impressed and i knew i was going to read this too and i’m glad to say that i absolutely loved it.

asides from the fact that this pulled me out of a potential reading slump, the story was a different and enjoyable read. 😍

i enjoyed the short chapters, the different POVs and trust me, there was a lot to learn from this book. the suspense, lies, drama was intriguing and kept me reading till the very end. i couldn’t put it down. i couldn’t stop - and the ending was even purrrfect. 🤯🤯 i desperately wanted to uncover the truth and it was a roller coaster of emotions discovering the truth. 😮‍💨😮‍💨 also, the characters were properly developed. 👏👏 and whew!, you’ll be drawn into this book from the first page. safe to say, i’ll read anything this author puts out! 🥳🥳

Another absolute blinder of a plot from Hayley Smith 👏🏻

Becka, Freddie, Magdalena, Charlotte and Toby - such well written and relatable characters. I love Hayley Smith’s skill in weaving a massive web of deceit and obsession between her characters, with twists and ulterior motives in spades.

If you woke up from a coma with amnesia, after an accident, you’d have no choice but to believe what your husband told you, right?

My brain was whirring away, trying to second guess where this would go and I felt super tense. I was absolutely hooked from the first page and didn’t stop reading!

At the end, I was completely stunned. I kind of just sat in the silence, in awe, thinking about what I’d just read. I don’t want to give any spoilers, so just read the book and thank me later!

5 ⭐️ Thanks to Netgalley, Hayley Smith and Bookouture, for an ARC in return for an honest review.

A mind-blowing and an unforgettable thriller.

Becka woke up at the hospital without any memory after an accident. A man sat there and waited for her to wake up. His name is Freddie, who claimed as her husband. They then went back to their home but still Becka could not remember anything, she even felt unfamiliar with the place.

Memory was coming back bit by bit and now Becka knew she didn’t belong to this house..

A gasping thriller that I could not wait to see what’s going on. Short chapters which made me addicted to it. (While my mind kept tricking me said, one more chapter before I knew it already reached the end). The twist at the end was jaw-dropping!

I am still in shock from this book. It was completely unpredictable, the twists and turns honestly I can't believe them! This book is frightening. I loved the way the author divided this book into parts it really added to the story. The characters oh my goodness the majority of them where scary. The main character Becka I just felt for her, I imagine myself in her shoes and I was so afraid for her. There was bombshell after bombshell for her and honestly my heart was pounding I was that worried for her.

If you want a book that is terrifyingly good then this is the one for you. I would definitely say this is one of the best psychological thrillers that I've ever read.
I am this authors biggest fan now! Amazing!

Thanks to Netgalley & the publishers for the ARC.
Well, I didn't really enjoy this book but it wasn't terrible. When I requested it, I thought I remember liking Ms. Smith's previous novel "The Perfect Girlfriend", but then I had a look back and I honestly didn't remember reading it, which is telling in itself. It's a quick read, and most readers will be engaged with the usual twists & turns, but it's pretty basic & formulaic. It actually reads just like the show, "Surface", that was on AppleTV a few months ago. Sidenote: This book is 10x better than that show, which is also telling.
So, yeah. You can read it. It's not going to change your life or anything, or contribute anything new to the genre, but it's a fine basic read. Woman wakes up in a coma with no memory of how she got there; starts to question everything, enter creepy husband and voila; you have yourself a thriller. 3/5 stars,

Hayley Smith is fast becoming an auto-buy author for me. The multiple POV in this book are so well timed. She balances 4 POVs at times in a way that moves the pace of the book along seamlessly, not only adding a new perspective but progressing the storyline.

Becka wakes in a hospital room with no recollection of who she is or any of her past life. She is left at the mercy of hospital staff and her husband Freddie, to fill in the blanks for her. As Becka moves home, things just don’t appear to be adding up and Freddie seems to be sketchy on the details…

I loved how the ending took a different twist and left on a slight open ending, but still in a satisfying and conclusive way.

Hayley Smith’s carefully crafted characters shine in her complex psychological thriller, Such A Loving Couple. They emulate perfection and Smith delights in surprising us with nailbiting twists to shatter this facade, revealing cracks and allowing us a better glimpse into what’s really happening. She withholds just enough to keep me guessing about her characters’ hidden dark secrets of the past and their motivation as well as keep me speculating how they’d affect their behaviour in the present.

Smith’s plot moves in genuinely unexpected and surprising ways and she’s not afraid to delve into the depths of obsession in highlighting unhealthy relationships. She also has a tight reign on the element of surprise, giving me goosebumps and increasing my heart rate!

Smith took me on a thrill ride from start to finish. What an explosive ending!

This is my first introduction to this new author and she’s managed to work her way onto my radar for her upcoming releases in September 2024 and June 2025.

I was gifted this copy by Bookouture and NetGalley and was under no obligation to provide a review.

Such a Loving Couple ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A page-turning psychological thriller.

Becka wakes up in the hospital without any of her past memories and doesn’t even know what happened to her. There’s a man that keeps coming to see her, but she doesn’t know who he is. Turns out it’s her husband, Freddie, or that’s what they told her. After she gets released from this hospital and goes home, her memories slowly start to come back but it’s not what she thought. Is Freddie who he claims to be? Is her name really Becka? Why does something feel off?

I’ll go ahead and warn you- when you start this book, make sure you have time because you will not want to put it down! The chapters are short and each one keeps you coming back for more. It’s so gripping! It’s told in 3 different points of view and a nonlinear timeline. Each time I thought I had it figured out, I didn’t. 🤯 it will keep you guessing all the way til the end.

Thank you NetGalley and Bookoture for my arc copy. This is my honest and voluntary opinion.

SPECTACULAR!!! Thank you NetGalley, Bookouture and the author for granting me access to this book in exchange for an honest review.

What a utterly compelling and emotionally twisted psychological thriller that held me hostage to the very end!! This is the first book I have read by Hayley Smith and it did not disappoint! The suspense, mystery, vivid descriptions, action, tension, drama, secrets, lies, jealously, betrayal, fast pacing, short chapters, unique plot, well developed characters, breathtaking twists and a shocking ending is what makes this a FABULOUS thriller!! I was completely engrossed from the very beginning and could not stop reading! I absolutely loved it so much!!!💙💙💙💙💙

Becka wakes up in a hospital bed without any past memories or recollection of what happened before the horrible accident. She hardly remembers her own name! Freddie, who claims to be her husband, visits her everyday and is ready to take her home as soon as she is cleared to leave the hospital. Can you imagine how confused and scared Becka must feel but what options does she really have?! Is Freddie who he claims to be? He does appear committed to helping her regain her memories and making her happy. As Becka trys to heal and put her life back together, she begins experiences flashbacks of memories. Now the journey really begins!!! This is all you get from me because I do not want to spoil anything.🥰

If you are looking for an intense, gripping and unputdownable psychological thriller then this is the book for you! I highly recommend and it deserves all the stars!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
