Nicole Lundrigan is the most slept on author in the thriller genre!
The Man Downstairs is the third book that I have read from this author that blew me away. If you have not read The Substitute or An Unthinkable Thing, you need to download all three of these to your Kindle ASAP!
Lundrigan has the ability to instantly connect with her readers and draw them into her storylines. The Man Downstairs is expertly plotted and filled with such beautifully flawed characters. I got lost in Molly, Gil, and ‘his’ storylines for hours, patiently savoring every minute with them, and desperately attempting to connect the dots.
Even the epilogue is stellar, containing an unbelievable twist. I didn’t want this book to end!
Highly, highly recommend!

Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin Random House Canada for the ARC of The Man Downstairs in exchange for an honest review.

An enjoyable thriller with lots of twists and turns that kept me guessing. No gore, plus interesting characters. Thanks #penguin #netgalley for introducing me to this author.

Thanks to Penguin Random House and Net Galley for the ARC of this novel by Nicole Lundrigan.
Recently divorced Molly and her teenage son move back to her childhood home town to care for her father who has suffered a debilitating stroke.
When Molly was 3 her mother was murdered in the family home in front of Molly. Her testimony sent a teenager to jail.
Now Molly is beginning to question her memory , and is receiving disturbing phone messages regarding what she saw .
The story begins to wind back to when her father met and married her mother. We learn of her mothers struggles to fill the role of wife and mother
There are lots of twists and turns as the story carries on. It will keep you guessing to the end
I highly recommend this book

Okay I had a few issues with the character development here. Honestly, it just wasn’t realistic to me that the main character was a psychologist with the decisions she made or how she handled her conversations and relationships. And her son drove me crazy! He just seemed irrelevant to the whole story. This is a slow burn mystery told in multiple POVs and dual timelines, which I always enjoy. Overall it was an interesting storyline and I wanted to know who did it, but I didn’t like the characters and the ending didn’t wow me enough to be memorable. I don’t think I was the right reader for this one because I feel like a lot of people enjoyed it!
Thank you to the publisher for providing an ARC via NetGalley.

Starting over again is never easy and yet to save yourself you have no choice. But your new life is not going to be easy. You will always be looking over your shoulder just in case someone recognizes you. But onward you go......The Man Downstairs knows but doesn't let on.. He's there to protect. A great read that will keep you turning pages till the last one.

I absolutely loved this book!! I couldn’t put it down.
I just loved all the characters. I highly recommend this book.

"A Man Downstairs" by Nicole Lundrigan is a haunting and atmospheric novel that explores the complexities of human nature and the dark secrets that can lie hidden within a seemingly ordinary suburban neighborhood. The story centers around a young boy named Billy, who becomes obsessed with the mysterious man living in the basement of his family's new home.

Nicole Lundrigan does unnamed, disturbed narrators remarkably well. This book is told from the POV of multiple characters, but she always has that one whose identity is an intriguing mystery. Overall, I really enjoyed the book, but there was one part that really bothered me and that was the expectation for Molly to remember specific details of events from when she was three years old. No doubt they were traumatic events, but it would have been much more believable if she'd been just a little older when they occurred.

Thank you for the advanced readers copy in exchange for an honest opinion
This was a story about a woman named Molly who moved back home with her son to take care of her father. However moving back home comes with its challenges as her mother had been murdered 40years prior. She hasn’t come to terms with her past and so hasn’t someone else.
You’ll have to pick up your own copy to see how it ends

This was my first book by author Nicole Lundrigan but it won't be my last! The author weaves a tale that leaves the reader trying to figure out what is going to happen next while at the same time guessing (and coming up wrong).
The author takes the reader on a looping, curving, twisting, turning ride that leaves them dumbfounded at the end of the book - don't even think about trying to get anything done once you start reading this one....Molly is a character that you will be rooting for all throughout but beware, because the bad guy isn't who you think!
Add this to your TBR list - you won't be sorry!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book.
The story centers around Molly Wynters, who is a recently divorced therapist returning to her hometown to take care of her father following his stroke. As Molly struggles with her own familial and personal issues, including a troubled teenage son, she is confronted with the tragic legacy of her past. This being the unsolved murder of her mother decades earlier (when Molly was only 3 and witnessed the murder). Complicating matters further, an anonymous caller accuses Molly of wrongful testimony, casting doubt on the conviction of the teenager she once identified as her mother's killer. Determined to uncover the truth behind that night, Molly finds herself revisiting her traumatic past.
The story is told from 3 POV's: Molly (present day), Gil (past), and HIM (past). The premise had a lot of promise. I found it at times, difficult to connect to the characters and found the dialogue sort of "basic".
With the dual timelines and multiple povs, I found that I was confused for the first half of the book. Trying to remember who was who "then" and who they are "now". Although there was some subtle spookiness that kept me engaged, and a reasonable ending (no crazy twists though), the pace of the book lagged at times. The second half of the book slowed down a lot, and that’s where I started to get to a point where I just wanted to find out the ending. We have dual timelines, and words from a mystery person, and those were good.
I found the past timeline and the POV of Gil to be the most interesting parts mostly.

This intricately woven thriller skillfully combines past and present perspectives to unravel the mysteries surrounding Edie Wynters' fate. With a compelling narrative structure that challenges readers to navigate a complex web of secrets and motivations, the story's strength lies in its well-crafted characters who defy traditional labels of good and evil. Centered around Molly Wynters' quest to uncover the truth behind her mother's unsolved murder, the novel delves into moral ambiguity and personal struggles, presenting a gripping and authentic portrayal of human complexity. A captivating and finely constructed psychological thriller that solidifies the author's place in suspense fiction.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC!

I really enjoyed this suspense filled story, always wondering what the truth was and it did keep me guessing until the end, I was unable to predicted what the ending. Thumbs up to Nicole Lundrigan for a fantastic written Suspenseful Thriller. Thank you NetGalley for this ARC and a chance to read and review.

Twisty, dark and addictive.
It was confusing at first, there are Now, Then and Him POV and it was hard to juggle at first. It took a few chapters to figure out why there were those three and by then I was completely hooked.
Molly has come back home to take care of her father. I really liked Molly. It tugged at my heart that her son was struggling so much and how much she clung to the truths she knew. The loss of her mother and her previous trial was such a momentous moment in her life and it was shocking that her son was poking the points that hurt her so much.
But as the twists and turns continued, I was shocked. Then and Him POV really showed the things Molly didn't know - and how it had all spiraled so far out of control. It was a good mystery, with interesting characters.
I also did this one as an audio book and the different narrators were wonderful and really helped keep the POV clear and kept me drawn into the story!
A huge thank you to the author and publisher for providing an e-ARC via Netgalley. This does not affect my opinion regarding the book.

A Man Downstairs by Nicole Lundrigan is a mesmerizing tale that weaves together suspense, psychological intrigue, and haunting narrative threads. When Molly Wynters returns to her hometown to care for her ailing father, she unwittingly sets in motion a gripping exploration of memory, trauma, and long-buried secrets. A Man Downstairs is a riveting and unputdownable read that showcases Lundrigan's exceptional talent for crafting compelling and suspenseful stories.

Our MC Molly has moved back to her hometown to take care of her ill father. Molly’s mother, brutally murdered when Molly was just 3 years old. The book flip flops from past to present and quite honestly will keep you guessing.
Molly is sure she knows who killed her mother, after all who could make such a dire mistake??

Thank you to NetGalley, Nicole Lundrigan, and Penguin Random House Canada for an ARC copy of "A Man Downstairs".
"A Man Downstairs" immerses readers in a gripping tale of suspense and psychological intrigue, as protagonist Molly Wynters grapples with the haunting memories of her past while confronting present-day threats that unravel the fabric of her small hometown.
Returning to care for her ailing father after her divorce, Molly hopes for a fresh start but finds herself haunted by the violent trauma of her childhood: witnessing her mother's murder and the subsequent conviction of a teenager based on her testimony. As she delves deeper into her past, doubts emerge about the accuracy of her memories, leading her to question whether she told the whole truth during the trial years ago.
Rich in atmosphere and psychological depth, this masterful thriller is both a riveting page-turner and a thought-provoking exploration of the complexities of memory and guilt. I highly recommend adding it to your list of must-reads.

When Molly Wynter moves back to her home town to help take care of her ailing father, the truth about her childhood is forced to the surface.
As a child Molly witnessed her mother being killed, her testimony sent a teenager to prison, and the validity of that testimony has often been questioned.
When weird things start happening around Molly she starts questioning what she saw that night.
This is a dual timeline, multiple POV book, keep everything straight because it can get a touch confusing at times.
This was a dark mystery and while the big reveal at the end was a little anticlimactic, it was still a twisted little story.
It was an enjoyable read, but did not have that "wow" to it.
I would recommend it if you are looking for a slow burn mystery. And if you can get your hands on the audiobook, the full cast reading was great!

An engaging read that I thoroughly enjoyed! Creepy fun and original. Highly recommend and will purchase several physical and digital copies for library collections. Thank you!!

A Man Downstairs follows our FMC Molly and the tragic events of her mother’s passing that have haunted the duration of her life, stemming from a young girl to present day.
The story is told over past and present timelines and narrated from multiple POV, Molly, her father and a mysterious person tell their own stories as the timelines collide into each other eventually giving us the big picture as events of that night unfold.
This is a dark, psychological thriller where the “evil” is unclear. Is the bad guy one specific person or is it the small knit community harbouring disturbing secrets and decades old murders.
This is definitely the kind of book where not only one single person is at fault, but instead the various decisions and reactions of multiple people making one big mess and having unforeseen consequences.
This is definitely the type of book that makes you think deeply and ask yourself questions about morality and the psychological nature of people.
Thank you to Nicole Lundrigan, Penguin random house and NetGalley for the ARC!
