When her sister Sammie dies, Sienna is determined to find out what really happened. Sammie's friends invite Sienna on a weekend getaway to commemorate Sammie's life. Sienna turns down the invitation, until she finds Sammie's journal and realizes there is a motive and she knows she needs to find out who killed Sammie and decides to go with the friends. What happens on the weekend and does Sienna get the answers she's looking for?
This was a great book, my first by Smith, but it won't be my last! It releases releases on October 4.
Thank you #Netgalley for the advanced readers copy of this amazing story!
Having requested this audio as I was intrigued in the blurb and the cover. Its the first book Ive read from Miranda and ill be looking at more of hers on audible,
I really enjoyed The Weekend Away. It has a good mix of intrigue, twists and turns. The narrator, Madeline Pell was well suited to the mystery /thriller. Lovely pacing of speech and again, I'll be looking for more books narrated by Madeline.
The book itself overall has really good pacing. and character building. I found it invoked a lot of different emotions which I always appreciate. Especially with the reality that some friends can be fake ! It has a very realistic feel to the narrative and kept me listening whist I've been walking/housework and even just sitting over the last few days. A very good read .
Thank you Miranda and Netgalley for the ARC audible
I really enjoyed this! Idk what it is with books about twins but I have been reading a lot of them! I didnt expect the killer at all. Most of what I want to highlight would be spoilers but my favourite part was it felt REAL. The reactions and interactions weren't outrageous. They could have REALLY happened.
A very thrilling read with interesting characters. Sienna's twin sister died after falling off of her balcony. Sienna finds her sisters journal and reads about secrets her friends are hiding. Sienna goes on a trip with her sisters friends to a secluded cabin in memory of her. Things take a turn and they end up fighting to survive. Thank you Netgalley for this ARC!
This has promise but it was a little too girl boss for me, girl boss was even said once and I had a hard eye roll. Also if I read "the company" or "the business" one more time I would have screamed. Needs a good edit.
A true page turner!
In this story you join Sienna on her quest to achieve justice for her twin sister, Samantha. Sienna herself is a likeable, interesting character who experiences complex emotions and beliefs throughout. Stand out for me was how Sienna’s view of those around her changed depending on their actions at the time, Sienna had to remind herself of how we are able to hold multiple emotions about the same person, no matter how contrasting they are. It was refreshing to see such complex self-reflection explored in such a relatable and real way.
There are multiple POV’s in this story, however they flow well and don’t feel confusing or jumbled.
I listened to this on audio in one sitting, completely unable to guess who the killer was. In fact, the person I finally settled on as my guess was completely wrong!
Three word review- Captivating, flowing, mysterious.
This book was so much fun. I really enjoyed getting to know all of the characters, which were all very well defined.
I couldn’t wait to find out what happened to Sam and I loved that her little sister was relentless in finding out the truth.
The problem was, out of all of Sam’s friends on this weekend getaway, you just truly do not know who to trust. Luckily, my lucky guess was correct. I mean several of her friends were total scumbags…. Could it be one person? Could it be all of them? You’ll have to read this one and find out.
I really enjoyed how everything played out at the end, and there were just enough twists to make this book interesting without going overboard.
I totally recommend this book and look forward to reading more by this author.
A huge thank you to NetGalley for the ARC copy of The Weekend Away by Miranda Smith. This book had me glued to my seat and way past bedtime as I simply could not put it down. It captivated my attention right from the start until the end. The story revolves around Sienna's twin sister, Samantha, who died after falling from her balcony, something that Sienna is struggling to accept. About a year later Samantha's friends plan a weekend getaway to honour her death and they invite Sienna, who at first is reluctant to go after finding Samantha's diary. Now Siennais convinced that one of the friends had to be involved with Samantha's untimely death. Sienna decides to accept the invitation to prove that someone was involved, which leads to more tragedy. This book was full of twists and turns, andI would recommend it to anyone who enjoys fast paced thrillers. 5 stars from me
A well narrated book with a good story. Whilst the story is disturbing and exciting, there are a few places where I found it hard not to lose my immersion in the tale because of the unbelievability of the text. For example, the couple talking realise another of the group is listening outside the door but they don’t even have a look to see who, despite calling out to them. That bit drove me mad. There were other points but that one really grated. However, I did enjoy the book and am just being super picky
Unfortunately this one just didn't work for me. The writing didn't flow well. and I had a really hard time caring about the story or any of the characters. Just not for me.
A solid 4 star read/listen by a new to me author. Definitely looking forward to more of her books/audiobooks, as I found this one quite gripping. Lots of plot, fast paced, a totally different storyline from anything I've listened to previously and heaps of potential for more good stories.
I want to thank the author, NetGalley and Bookouture Audio
for the opportunity to listen to this terrific new book.

So i really loved this at the beginning. Great narrator, quick getting in to the plot, but i just did not like any of the characters of the sisters friend and wasn't even too keen on the poor deceased.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for a copy for an honest review. I really appreciated it :)
But just an 'ok' from from me, so wanted to love this
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for the review copy of this book.
Sienna's twin sister, Samantha, died. But was it really an accident? She always suspected it wasn't. And after she finds her sister's journal and discovers all of Samantha's closest friend's secrets, she realizes that all of them had a reason to want her dead. So a year later, she goes on the weekend trip that all of Samantha's friends planned in memory of Samantha. As secrets come out and relationships crumble, we're left with questions - was it an accident, and who wanted her dead?
The narration was good and the story kept me wanting to listen and find out what really happened.
A weekend getaway to remember a lost loved one or a weekend you will never come back from? Sienna accepts a invitation from her deceased sisters, Samantha's friend to join a group of them going to a cabin for the weekend to have a memorial. Sienna accepts the invite but only to find out the truth behind her sister's death.
The Weekend Getaway will have you anxious to flip the page to find out what is going to happen next. I listened to the audiobook and really enjoyed the narrator. The switching between perspectives was a great way to watch (or in my case listen) to the story unfold. A huge turn of events that could mean disaster for everyone was a great turn in the plot and and an intriguing way to add a love interest.
This was my first book by Miranda Smith and I will definitely be reaching for more. If you enjoy a thrilling plot line with some unexpected twists sprinkled with just a touch of romance, you will want to read or listen to The Weekend Away.
Loved this audiobook. It’s fast paced, chilling full of suspense.
Six friends go away for the weekend, but there’s loads of secrets between them. One of the friends twin sister has died a year ago, the other twin wants answers. Are the friends telling the truth or is there a killer among them?
The narrator is great, full of expression and great at all the different characters voices. She made the story come alive. She was easy to follow and prompted each chapter very well.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for a copy.
The setting of The Weekend Away by Miranda Smith takes place at a cabin- a group of friends are going to a cabin for the weekend to remanence on their memories with their friend Samantha who unexpectedly passes away almost a year ago by falling off of her balcony while home alone. The group invites her twin sister Sienna, who always felt like her sister’s death was not an accident and that she wasn’t alone when it happened. This is Sienna’s chance to talk to her sister’s friend and find out the truth about her sister’s death.
The Weekend Away by Miranda Smith and narrated by Madeline Pell grabbed my attention from page one and had it till the very end! While listening to the audiobook, there were times when I thought I knew what was going to happen next but the twists and turns made it impossible for me to guess the ending. Madeline did an amazing job making this book come to life- I really enjoyed the audiobook! Be on the lookout for The Weekend Away which will be published on October 4th. Thank you NetGalley, Bookouture Audio, and the author Miranda Smith for the opportunity to listen to an ARC of The Weekend Away in exchange for my honest review. Be on the look out for The Weekend Away which will be published on October 4, 2023!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this audio book ARC opportunity!
This story follows Sienna, who’s sister Samantha died accidentally one year ago. Sienna doesn’t believe this was an accident. She attends a weekend getaway in a cabin with Samantha’s friends, which becomes a locked door mystery experience, with alternate POV’s and diary entries which ties things together.
I liked the narrator but did find this to be too much of a slow burn for me. I wasn’t too invested in any of the characters and feel the story could have moved quicker. I do believe others would enjoy it more though.
A book full of unexpected surprises and it was an easy listen. I finished the book in three days because I couldn’t stop listening. My only feedback was that in a few chapters there was a change in narrators voice that was either add ins or a different narrator entirely.
2.5 stars, rounded up to 3.*
This is the first Miranda Smith title I've read. It was fine. It reminded me of The Hunting Party, only the characters were one-dimensional and it suffered from a narrator who was too perky and upbeat for the story.
Honestly, it was written with dialogue and intrigue that felt more like a middle-years novel than a thriller.
Predictable. It was fine. But meh.
*with thanks to NetGalley for the audio ARC in exchange for this honest review.
There are just so many good things I could say about this book. I absolutely tore (pun intended) through this read . Everyone needs to go read it
