Apologies for being so late on reviewing. This has sat in my TBR for far too long, I've read more recent books by this author since but only just got around to this one 🙈
I am a sucker for books that are told in a multitude of POVs, and K.L Slater never disappoints on that front!
Told through an array of POVs, and with jumping timelines, you need to keep your wits about you to follow, but in all honesty, I was immersed very quickly, so I had no trouble keeping track.
Parker and Luna Vance are involved in a serious road accident that has left them fighting for their lives in the hospital. The evening before, they had left their child with Parkers parent's Nicola and Cal. On dropping their son off, Parker makes a point of telling Nicola they would speak tomorrow, turning to his mother he said "I have something very important to tell you. But you mustn't tell anyone. "
As Luna starts to recover slowly, she speaks to the police. She is definitely hiding something, but what secrets is she keeping?
Whilst still recovering from her cancer treatment, Nicola wants answers and decides to head around to Parkers home, but sometimes being nosey gives you more questions than answers!
With a great abundance of well scripted and thought-out characters, even the ones unlikeable are characterised brilliantly. This is a twist filled, riveting read that had me guessing throughout. The only downside for me was the repetition, especially on Nicola's part.
I can't go into too much detail without giving the whole storyline away, but it is definitely a book for anyone who loves a good thriller with plenty of twists and turns to have you scratching your head!
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC.
like every other book by K.L Slater, this was another good and satisfying mystery novel. every book I've read by her was an enjoyable read. I definitely recommend it. hope you enjoy it.
thanks to NetGalley for providing my copy of this book in exchange for and honest review.
This story is full of so many twists and turns and just when you think you know what's going on, the POV switches or it changes from present to past timeline. None of the characters are reliable or even particularly likable which make their secrets even more twisted. I've never read anything by this author before and I really enjoyed it.
A gripping read, verry engaging and lots of twists and turns. I kept thinking I had it sussed, only to be thrown another curveball. Can't wait for more from the author.
Thank you so much Bookouture, K.L. Slater, and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read and honestly review this book.
This kept me on my toes guessing what was going on! That being said, I feel like the reason everything happened was boring and wouldn’t have really happened in real life. The repetition at the end wasn’t for me.
Another fantastic thriller by K L Slater, this book had me gripped from the beginning and so hard to put down! I loved the twist and turn in the book.
I enjoy all K L Slater’s books and this one certainly didn’t disappoint. It is an intriguing psychological family thriller, told from various points of view. The storyline was about two families, both protecting their loved ones with their secrets and lies. This was a compulsive read and one I could not put down especially with the totally unexpected twist at the end. A highly recommended read.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.
I usually love K.L. Slater books, but I could not get into this one. I unfortunately DNF the book at 30%
Unfortunately this book wasn't for me.i found the plot predictable & nor gripping. I guessed the ending was too early & didn't enjoy it as much as her other books.
Loved this! Domestic suspense that begins with grandparents babysitting…and everything goes horribly wrong!
I enjoyed the short chapters that jumped around in time, the multiple POV’s, and Nicola. I hated how sneaky everyone was and most of the characters!
Overall, this was a well-written suspense with interesting characters, a great premise and setting, and one that I couldn’t put down.
Uhm…. What?? This was absolutely insane in the best way possible. So many twists and turns I felt like I had whiplash! The writing was great, characters so complex and the plot was just …. Wow. Honestly one of the best thrillers I’ve ready so far this year!
Parker Vance and his wife Luna find themselves in a life-and-death struggle after a harrowing road accident. Yet, amidst their fight for survival, both harbor secrets, and one of them is concealing something grave. But which one? That's a puzzle for you to unravel!
The eve prior to the crash, Parker confided in his mother, Nicola, hinting at a crucial conversation scheduled for the next day: "I have something very important to tell you. But you mustn’t tell anyone..." Naturally, Nicola's curiosity piqued, eager to uncover the clandestine revelation meant exclusively for her ears. Unfortunately, fate intervenes, leaving Nicola unable to converse with her son as he battles for his life.
Narrated from various viewpoints, featuring a cast of polarizing characters, this tale ensnares you from the outset, refusing to relinquish its grip. With twists that defy anticipation, the author skillfully maintains an atmosphere of perpetual tension. I wholeheartedly recommend this gripping narrative.
Thank you Bookoutre and Netgalley for another great read
I guessed the twist quite quickly, but it didn't stop the storyline being less amazing.
Highly recommend.
As always another fast paced read by this author. I love all the twists & turns that keep you guessing till the end. Love a domestic thriller.
I have enjoyed every K L Slater book I’ve ever read/listens to and this one is no exception!
The story is told by a few different characters perspectives and based on present day and the weeks leading up to to the car accident and death of a local woman.
The characters were well written and I particularly liked Nicola, one of the main characters. A typical mum, fiercely loyal and determined to get to the bottom of what’s been going on in her sons marriage.
I was gripped from start to finish and flew through it, I couldn’t put it down! The story development was great and kept you wanting more. I couldn’t for the life of me figure out what was going to happen. The usual red herrings chucked in, taking you up the garden path really added to the suspense.
As I’ve said before, I really enjoy K L Slater’s style of writing and have a few more on my list left to read, which I can’t wait! She is now a guarantee on my TBR pile with every new release.
Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I love a quick thriller and this one definitely fit the bill! Great twists I didn’t see coming. I thought I had it all figured out but was definitely surprised!
After Luna & Parker drop their son off at his grandparents house while they go to a work event, they get in a car accident and both end up in the hospital. Parker had been previously questioned in a homicide investigation, and now they find themselves right back in the middle of it. Parker’s mother Nicola is our main narrator, as she tries to track down the truth to get the heat off her son.
This was quick and fun to read. There were some parts that dragged a bit and were a little repetitive, but I feel like the twists and turns made up for that. we have several very unlikeable characters, but I feel like that added to the story. overall an enjoyable read and I couldn’t predict the ending
thank you to netgalley for a copy in exchange for an honest review!
What on earth did I just read! I was not expecting that at all. It is physchological thriller that really made me think. I was trying to guess what was going on but it has a different twist.
Another hit by K.L. Slater!! I guessed the plot twist pretty early on but it didn't make the journey any less amazing! Loved it and can't wait for whatever she has in store next!
The characters were great in this one. Told by multiple perspectives. K L Slater is one of my favourite authors and never disappoints me. Highly recommend.
