I was given this book by NetGalley for an honest review-
OMG WHAT A THRILLER! A marriage in trouble, a husband with secrets, a jealous wife, a controlling mother and father. And then a car accident- the husband struggling to live, the wife with a broken hip. So many secrets. Mom decides to get to the bottom and every turn leads to more secrets and questions —- and then —- the shocking answer!
This authors books get better and better!!!! I devoured this book within a day, I couldn't put it down. Twists, turns, red herrings, it has it all. Absolutely fantastic story. I cannot recommend this book highly enough.
I love KL Slater books after discovering them last summer thanks to netgalley and I am quickly working my way through all her books. This book is fast paced and full of intrigue all the way up until the end! As usual this book is gripping and hard to put down finished this in two days! KL slater has done it again and can not wait to see what she writes next.
Thanks to Bookouture and netgalley for sending me this arc in exchange for my honest review
We promised to keep each other’s secrets. Until they found the body…
The Wife:
My husband and I are fighting for our lives in hospital after a terrible car accident. But despite my pain, all I can think about is what our families will find behind our front door. The scarf that has been all over the news, belonging to a dead young woman with honey-coloured hair. I have to speak to the police before my husband can.
The Husband:
I’m drifting in and out of consciousness, but when I hear my wife talking to the police, accusing me of the murder of an innocent woman, a cold fear grips me. I know I’ve got a temper. That I’ve not always been faithful. Will they think I killed her?
K.L. Slater is one of my favourite authors, one of those that you do not even bother to read the blurb as you know it will be good. Told by several characters, I whipped through this one in a few hours. Another group of highly unlikable people bring this story to life, strained relationships, doubts, mistrust, lies and secrets keep the tension and suspence moving forward. The book does not move at a fast pace, definitely what we call a slow burn but all the information is provided, it is just a case of the interpretation. Just when I was sure I had it all worked out another red herring came along to make me rethink my thought processes, was I right? no I wasn't but that is what makes a good book, chasing all the leads down wondering who is telling the truth. A solid read. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an advanced copy, all opinions are my own.
Another pitch perfect psychological family drama ‘Whodunit’ thriller…..it was full on intrigue all the way through and tbh right until the end we didn’t find out who the real perp was and then as with all this authors books a nice big twist to turn the knife just when it seemed all was untwistable 😁
I liked the main character of Nicola, fiercely loyal Mum and wife who after facing health battles thinks not seeing her son and family as much as she would like is her biggest concern……if only that was the real truth
A good set of other characters, some unlikeable but all playing a great part make this into a very consuming read and quickly I was drawn into their lives and dynamics
This author never fails to write a fabulous enticing read that draws you in and keeps you there
Loved it
This was an excellent read - very gripping and hard to put down. Thanks Netgalley. Will look forward to the next one.
Thank you Bookouture and NetGalley for an early copy of Husband and Wife. What a book! The love the son has for his mom was incredible. The twists and turns were many. I was in shock when all was revealed. I CAN’T STOP thinking of this plot. Sooooooooo Good. Nicola was a fantastic character, a true mom in every sense of the word. Thank you again.
Oh My Gosh my neck hurts from ALL the twists in this book. WHAT A RIDE!!!!!! You truly will NOT figure this one out, incredible plot, shady characters and an ending that makes you say WHAT? Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for a Fantastic read. This is what a psychological book is about. Grab a coffee and start reading, then get get a glass of wine because you will finish this in a day. I loved Nicola, a true mom.
This was a good, solid psychological thriller. It covered some interesting themes and I enjoyed the multiple POV and multiple timelines.
It was a slow-burn, sometimes a bit too slow, especially the parts from Nicola's perspective, she was a bit dithering bless her! The dialogue was a bit clunky and unnatural in parts but it is a very hard thing to get right.
The plot was interesting and whilst I did guess where it was heading, the journey to get there was fun to read for the most part. I liked the ending - I'm not a fan of open-ended books so I appreciated that all loose ends were tied up.
Overall I would recommend this book as it definitely held my interest, but I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way to rave about it.
Ps. This author really overuses the word 'frown'. I make it a little game to see how many uses there are in each of her books - 27 frowns in this one.
Firstly let me say I just love a KL Slater book and just devour them when they come out, this one hit the mark and was very bingeable (could just see this as a streaming domestic drama). I really didn't know where this one was going and all the hints etc made it so good that just kept me guessing - I never got it worked so well.
I was given an advance copy by bookouture and netgalley but the review is entirely my own.
My Review:
Loved!!!!! I knew even before I read the blurb I had to read this one. This author is one of my favorites for so many reasons. If you read a book by her then you already know why I love her so much. To be honest what isn’t there to love about any of her books. They are all so great. Ok let’s talk about this one for a minute. The plot was perfect for me. There was a battle between wife and husband which always makes for a great fun read. I love trying to figure out which one is going to win. Let’s talk characters. Wow, wow and more wow!!!!! I didn’t know who to trust in this one. I thought everyone was shady as heck and hiding something besides one character. That character was searching for the truth no matter what the outcome was. I absolutely loved that character and how they wanted justice for all the victims. Up next is my favorite part in every book, the ending. There were so many twists and turns in this one. I really thought I was going have whiplash after reading all of them. I was truly shocked and left speechless. I definitely knew nothing was at it seemed the entire book. I was waiting for it and then bam there it was. I couldn’t ask for a better read. I can’t wait for this authors next book. Hopefully it won’t be too long. I’m not patient at all.
In conclusion, the plot, the characters and all the twists in this book made this book an enjoyable read. I would definitely recommend it and happily give it 5 Hearts❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I enjoy reading books by this author and this kept me hooked from the start. The storyline is a bit back and forth but it didn't take away the enjoyment of the story. Plenty of twists and secrets made for a great book. This author is such an amazing author. I highly recommend this book.
Whenever I see a new book from K.L. Slater, I can't help but stop what I’m doing and start reading immediately! Husband and Wife is a sinister domestic thriller featuring a cast of fascinating characters: a couple with a rocky marriage, their young son and his devoted grandmother, and a dead girl with a shady side. Full of secrets, lies, and drama, I couldn’t get enough of this twisty thriller! I stayed up reading way past my bedtime because I just had to see what was going to happen! The pieces of this intricate plot came together so satisfyingly that it was totally worth being tired the next morning!
Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for providing me an advance copy of this book.
As per usual when I read a KL Slater novel I become so engrossed I cannot put it down. This book is my favourite yet. Lots of back and forth chapters from all characters but this did not confuse or hinder my reading. Some really unlikeable characters so as the reader you do not know who to trust and believe. A perfect read for all fans of family dramas and domestic thrillers
WOW!!! The author has an incredible gift of writing psychological thrillers…I was just blown away by everything in this book and need to read more by this author. Needless to say I am an instant huge fan!
I was blown away by all the secrets and twists that kept coming… The ending completely blew me away. I raced through the pages as fast as I could!
A twisted Family mystery and slow paced thriller.
When a single mother goes missing and ends up found dead behind an alley, the story blast all around town causing havoc between a mother and her family. A crazy yet sweat HEA.
Husband and Wife, by K.L. Slater is tense and captivating! Parker and Luna have brought their son to his parent’s house while they go for a night away. As they are returning they are in a terrible car accident; Parker is critical and Luna severely injured. Recently a young woman has been found murdered and there is an important item missing at the scene. Nicola, Parker’s mother, lets herself into the couple’s home to pick up some additional clothes and toys, and finds something shocking. How can you solve a murder when one person is unable to speak and it seems everyone is lying about something? The two sets of in-laws do not get along, and secrets are plenty with all the characters. The chapters alternate from each character’s POV, including the police, and the author cleverly unfolds the story by going back and forth in time. This structure enables the reader to obtain only bits of information at a time with satisfying twists. From the beginning there is a strong sense of foreboding so it’s hard to put this down until you reach the end. I highly recommend reading this book! With thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for this ARC. My opinions are my own. Susanh_bookreviews
Thank you to Netgallery and the publisher for the ARC. The publication date is the 3rd Nov 2023. I finished this in one day! This book was more of a slow-burn thriller but I still throughly enjoyed it.
This one had characters that you just love to hate, and filled with secrets, lies, and drama. I really like how the story was told from all different points of view.
There were so many twists and turns in this book, but nothing can prepare you for the ending.
My favourite character was Nicola as did what any mother would do for her child... she was my favourite out of all of them.
Overall, a page turner and extremely fast-paced book. 5/5 stars! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Husband and Wife by K.L. Slater is quite twisty and has a surprise ending that I didn't see coming.
I like this author's writing style; the scenes and action flow and hold my interest. Sometimes, it did get cumbersome (from Nicola's point of view) in some of the details described, but overall, it was a satisfying psychological thriller with a good twist at the end.
The story was told from different character perspectives via past and present that unfolded family drama, plot twists, and secrets. This was not a real page-turner, but it did have good drama and enough secrets to keep me reading until the end.
A 3.75 (rounded to 4) out of 5 stars.

The title husband and wife literally could fit three different couples in this book. All with their own secrets. How are all of these people connected? Why does Nicola's son need to talk to her? Why does Parker only visit his in-laws? This book takes many views from past and present to bring a story about family drama and secrets! Not my favorite by her, but still a good book with lots of suspense!
