Great book. Major twists kept it really exciting. The story turned out way different than I expected ( as to who actually murdered Sarah).
Wow! Parker and Luna are fighting for their lives after a terrible car accident. Parker’s mother discovers evidence that may connect one or both of them to a murder. Who is telling the truth? Who is keeping secrets? This one kept me guessing til the very end! Another fantastic book by KL Slater. Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for this fabulous ARC!
Husband and Wife is yet another testament to K.L. Slater’s indelible skill of storytelling. I raced through this compelling, twisty novel.
Where do I even begin with Husband and Wife? What did the title mean? Husband and Wife – they promise to look after each other in sickness and health, right? To support each other through the good and the bad. There’s a feeling of mutual respect and partnership. So, when Parker and his wife, Luna are involved in a very serious car accident, will they continue to honour their vows?
The story is told in multi-POV’s, Laura, Parker’s mum, Luna, the wife and Parker, the husband. Laura has a difficult relationship with her son and his wife. It really gets to Laura. She used to have a wonderful relationship with him. But with the marriage to Luna came big problems. They didn’t visit often, she wasn’t invited to their home, and they rarely saw her grandson, Barney.
When Parker and Luna are involved in a car accident that has Parker in critical care and Luna with a broken pelvis, Laura, and her husband rally round. There’s several things that Laura is confused by. Why were they travelling home when they were apparently staying over night at a dinner dance and when she get’s the keys to Parkers home to collect some things for Barney, she discovers that the couple were sleeping apart. Their home is up for sale and why in a bag of discarded rubbish does she find a silk scarf that is pertinent to a murder case of a girl called Sarah Greyson?
I really liked the character of Laura. She was a true mama bear that would stop at nothing to prove her son’s innocence. She’s running on little sleep and adrenaline as she’s trying to fill in the gaps of Parker’s days before the accident.
If you’ve read any of K.L. Slater’s books before you’ll know that you’re in for a wild ride. Husband and Wife was no different. It’s a twisty rollercoaster of a read. The author takes you at knifepoint, the knife edging further into your skin as the reveals are made. Your nervous, excited, and scared all at the same time. I relished the horrors and once again I found myself wondering why the biggest evil of all is humanity. Forget ghost and ghouls. People are the biggest threat.
Another great read from K.L.Slater. Very well written and told from different POV, never knowing what or who to believe. Fast paced and twists I didn't see coming.
Thank you to Netgalley and to the publishers for allowing me to read this advanced copy.
I have read all of KL Slater's books in the past and loved them all. This one for some reason just felt like it was lacking in something and wasn't my favourite. I still enjoyed it though as it had twists and turns which I love and was written from different POVs which I also love. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my ARC.
"I have something very important to tell you. But you mustn't tell anyone..."
Kim Slater continues to thrive with her deluge of thrillers and this one she well and truly had me hoodwinked. Though when the villain was revealed I was surprised but not shocked...because everything just fell into place with that one piece of knowledge. All throughout, with her sleight of hand deftly moving the pieces, Kim weaves a tale which pitches wife against husband and husband against wife. And despite having the facts laid out before us, I was still blindly lead up a false trail wanting so badly for the villain to be someone else entirely. And while she was deftly moving the pieces behind the scenes, I didn't see the truth until she spelled it out for us. And it had been hiding in plain sight.
Nicola and Cal are excited to be babysitting their seven year old grandson, a rare occurrence given that their relationship with their son and his wife appear to be somewhat strained. But a night out at a dinner dance his firm is holding, Parker delivers their son to his parents on their way out for the evening and into the night. His wife Luna naturally remains in the car and Nicola can't understand why the woman never makes an effort with them. But regardless, for Parker's and Barney's sakes she tries to offer an olive branch but it's swept away each time.
Before leaving, Parker whispers to his mother that he needs to talk to her the following day when his father was at work and Luna safely back at home. His words "I have something very important to tell you. But you mustn't tell anyone" have her intrigued and pondering what could be so important that he only wished to confide in her. And without his wife's knowledge.
But the conversation was never to take place. Because at 2am the following morning, she's shaken awake by Cal and the strobing blue lights lighting up their bedroom. Downstairs the police rang the doorbell. There had been a very serious road traffic accident in which their son Parker and his wife Luna had been seriously injured.
Leaving Cal at home to look after their sleeping grandson, Nicola rushes the hospital to find out just how serious this accident was and in what condition her son was. When she arrives, Parker is in the trauma unit and is barely coherent. Knowing that his condition is critical and that Luna is also injured, Nicola realises that it's left up to her to take over the care of her grandson Barney in his parents' absence and makes arrangements with the nursing staff to access Parker's belongings so that she can go to their house to collect some clothes and toys for Barney.
As she pulls up in front of her son's illustrious detached home, she cannot believe what she is seeing. Why hasn't Parker told them? Understandably frazzled by this latest revelation, Nicola swiftly enters the house, disarms the alarm and goes in search of Barney's room to pack a few things. As she wanders the rooms she continually tells herself "I will not snoop...I will not snoop...wait! What?" But the revelations inside the house were nothing compared to what she found when she decided to put their bin out...a piece of evidence that links her son to a murdered woman. This cannot be happening.
Now, armed with this new knowledge, Nicola scrambles to protect her family.
The story unfolds through various timelines and a handful of characters. While not in a straightforward timeline, it goes back and forth in a mish mash of times that would normally confuse a reader but made perfect sense given what was really unfolding. As the story progressed, the more questions were raised. I had my suspicions but this time I was way off base.
I love that Kim's books continue to involve DI Helena Price and her DS Brewster. It makes them feel almost like a series without being a series. And you don't get bogged down in all that police procedural info when all you want is a fun, entertaining and interesting thriller to devour.
Another addictive read from Kim sure to thrill fans alike!
I would like to thank #KLSlater, #Netgalley and #Bookouture for an ARC of #HusbandAndWife in exchange for an honest review.

I have regret reading this book and that is I regret not reading it sooner! To be honest I was apprehensive about whether to read this or not; I thought oh yeah a dead body, husband and wife story.. but it's so much more than that. The depth it goes into with each character and their storyline is remarkable. I was shocked and guessing the whole way through! Had to pick my jaw up a few times.
I'm honestly quite sad thatI've finished the book now. I have a book hangover
Will be reading more from this amazing author
Thanks to Netgalley and publishers for giving me the chance to read this amazing book for my honest review.
What a fantastic book, it had me hooked from the beginning. It is one of those books where you have to keep turning the page to find out what happens next. Would highly recommend.
I have enjoyed KL Slaters books in the past. Whilst this was not my favourite it was still an enjoyable read. Some good twists and turns as the book progresses, and as always a whole host of characters to supsect at different times.
I really enjoyed this read it is a compelling story with twist after twist that just hits you in the face and leaves you feeling breathless
For Nicola the sun rises sets on her son Parker & his young son Barney, however no matter how hard she tries she can't seem to get close to his stylish beautiful wife Luna. Nicola rarely gets Barney to herself, so she is delighted when she is asked to have him for the weekend whilst Parker & Luna attend an event. Parker tells her he needs to talk when they get back, but a dreadful accident leaves him in a coma & Luna seriously injured. When going to Parker's house for things for Barney she discovers something in the bin that rocks her to the core.
Told from various points of view, the reader is taken through numerous hoops & alleys. As always I know I can rely on K.L. Slater for a good read & this was no exception! Thanks to Netgalley & the publisher for letting me read & review this gripping read.
Firstly K.L Slater is one of my go to authors and I was so excited to read Husband and Wife. It did not disappoint. It has great characters and an intriguing storyline that kept me gripped all the way through with its many twists and turns. A fantastic read.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for my ARC.
I enjoyed this book. A young mother has been found murdered. Her scarf is missing. When a woman finds what she thinks is that scarf at her son's house she doesn't know what to think. Especially as her son and daughter in law are both in hospital after a nasty car accident. I don't want to give anything away as this is a story full of twists and turns, and will keep you guessing to the end.
Thanks to NetGalley for a preview copy.
Copied to Goodreads.
Husband and Wife is the new novel by K L Slater and is yet another wonderful read by this great writer.
Married couple Parker and Luna are in the hospital after a horrible car crash. Parker's mother, Nicola is beside herself with worry. The night before, after dropping his son off at Nicola's home, Parker told her he had something to tell her that was important and he needed to tell her inperson. Having been woken by the police on the middle of the night Nicola decided to drive to Parker's home to gather more clothing for her grandson as he would need to stay with them. Nicola goes to Parker and Luna's home and realises things are not quite what they seem, In addition, whilst putting their bins out, she finds a bag full of discarded new items that Luna was gifted as an influencer and decided to keep them and look through them when she gets home. Unfortunately right at the bottom of the bag she finds a a scarf., a very distinctive scarf that looks exactly like the missing scarf the police are looking that belongs to a dead woman.
This book is told through various characters and timelines, A wonderful psychological thriller that grips you right from the first page.
An absolutely phenomenal book! Brilliantly written and gripping from beginning to end. This is an edge of your seat read all the way. The characters are unpredictable and believable. This book is not to be missed. I was all in on this one and it's going to stay with me for a long time. Simply amazing on all levels.
Get ready to read this all in one sitting! I’ve read all of K. L. Slaters books, so I was excited to get an early read a couple weeks through NetGalley before the release. Husband and Wife was one of my favorite books by this author. It kept me wanting to read from the first chapter. There was quite a buildup to trying to figure out what happened. I was truly surprised by the ending, which does not happen often for me. I cannot wait for the next book by this author.
I gave this book 4 stars, but it was not one of my favorite stories of the author. A husband and wife are in a horrific accident, and both in the hospital. but not allowed to see one another. While in the hospital, the mother of the man has found some incriminating evidence about her son. What would you do? Would you try and hide the evidence? This story centers around decisions made, and how they impacted the lives of many. Slater is a great author and includes lots of suspense in her novels, and this one is no different.
A woman is found strangled in an alley. Parker is routinely interviewed as his car resembles one seen near the murder scene. After, Parker and his wife, Luna, are in an accident and his mother also accidentally finds a piece of evidence from the murder in their trash bag. Mum then starts to investigate.
This book was mediocre at best. There really didn't seem to be any thrills. It seemed as if everyone knew what was going on except Mum. Getting both Luna and Parker's povs there didn't feel to be many secrets. The characters were all grey and dull. There was no one to root for. I just wasn't engaged. Not a book I would recommend or an author I'd try again.
The first thing to say about this book is what a great tag line to pull you into the story!
She kept all his secrets. Until the body was found...
If that doesn't make you curious, nothing will! Who has secrets? What are the secrets? Whose body and why have they been killed? So many questions are raised just by the tag line - and you'll only have more as you become engrossed in this domestic tale of murder and deceit. But those with the answers are lying seriously ill in hospital after a nasty car crash. A coincidence? MORE questions!!
I loved this book, and I certainly didn't work out where it would be heading. There are older parents of career-successful kids, who don't see as much of them as they'd like so don't know as much about what's happening in their day-to-day lives. There are the in-laws, wealthy and successful and a little bit smug about it. The couple involved in the car crash: The husband who confided that he needs a chat with his mum before he set off on the fateful journey, and his glamorous yet insecure wife who seems to hold all the cards in their relationship. Secrets...oh, so many secrets!
This is a prime candidate for a book you'll want to read in one sitting. Characters you'll love to hate and others you'll want to hug. And a plot which will have you turning the pages until you run out. Probably at about 2 in the morning because you won't want to put it down.
Another fab read from K.L.Slater - A family all have secrets, children from their parents, parents from each other. One secret ends up in someone being murdered. I just like the way this authors stories flow and the characters become real. A good read.
