This was an awesome psychological thriller with soooo many secrets amongst all the characters! It was juicy! It was suspenseful. It was soooo good! I loved how it was told through multiple points of view so we can get into the character’s minds!
This is a quick read that came out on Nov. 3! So pick it up! You can thank me later!
Three husbands, three wives. All of them with secrets no one can find out.
Husband and Wife is a twisted domestic thriller.
The story begins with Parker and Luna dropping off their son Barney for an overnight stay at his parent's house. In the middle of the night the police come to inform them there has been an accident. Parker and Luna are injured but Parker's injuries are more serious.
Nicola tries to see her son at the hospital, but he is seriously injured and will need surgery. They grant her permission to see him for a few minutes and Parker tells his mother not to go to his house. Nicola decides she needs to go to get more clothes and toys for an extended stay for Barney. When she arrives, she sees a for sale sign, and other unsettling things. This only prods her to keep looking into what is going on with her son and daughter-in-law. But what she finds is very different than what her family members reveal. The truth is so much worse than she could have imagined.
This story is built on secrets the majority of the characters are keeping from Nicola. She appears to be the only one in the dark about what has been happening for quite some time. It is an intense drama with a shocking twist at the end. It is told from several points of view and is also told in the past and present.
Thank you Netgalley, K. L. Slater, and Bookouture for the advanced ebook copy! I absolutely loved this thriller! I loved hearing the story from the different perspectives from the past to the present. It was just so well written it just all came together in time and through the different characters! A must read!!!
“Husband and Wife”, a psychological thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat. Just when you think you have it figured out, you don’t ! Entertaining! A Who Done It! Shocking revelations!
What I liked most about the book was the suspense and the family unit involvement. I felt Author K.L. Slater did a great job with character development by letting us know where each character was psychologically early on. I got to know the characters and could distinguish their motives for their actions, but even some surprises there as well.
My favorite character was Nicola, maybe in part because I am also a mother and a wife and hold family values at a high level.
I could connect with her passion for her son and her desperate desire to have everyone get along. Despite her own challenges, she continued to put her son first and went with her gut on decisions.
I thought the plot was impulsive and engaging. There was just enough “not said”, leaving the mind to play out its own theory and accusatory assumptions.
This psychological thriller made me feel a full circle of emotions from frustration, anger and disgust to love, relief and some level of justice ( which for me left me with a 4.5 rating).
I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys a psychological thriller.
Thank you @bookouture and @netgalley for this eARC for my honest review
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for accepting my request for this book. I have always enjoyed books by K L Slater but this time I am conflicted. Here is my honest review.
The story was good and peaked my curiosity. The characters were for the most part unlikable. The time jumps were confusing. The story flow was missing as each character "spoke" of a time a day, a week, a month before but not in a sequence that was easy to follow. It all came together at the end but it took a while to get there. The twist was somewhat predictable and I was happy for the end.
Imogen, mum of a young child and another on the way, thinks she’s hit the jackpot when she finds a women to help her run her busy home and B&B. Maria seems like the perfect housekeeper. She cleans and cooks and does all sorts of things to help Imogen out. But looks can be deceiving and Maria is not your typical homemaker. In fact she has no experience doing anything of the sort. But Maria has a secret! And she hatch’s a sinister plan to immerse herself into Imogene’s life, making herself indispensable while at the same time uncovering more secrets so that she can blackmail Imogen to get what she wants. Which is a perfect family to call her own.
The Homemaker is the sixth book I’ve read by Miranda Rijks and like her other books, it is fantastic. It was suspenseful, thought provoking and character driven. I enjoyed the dual POVs of Imogen and Maria. At first I warmed to Maria but once I got a bit further into the story and realized how messed up and manipulative she was, I loathed her. Although I do confess, I enjoy a book with an evil villain! 😅
As for Imogen, I felt empathy for her as she had so much on her plate. She recently lost her mother, learned a life changing secret and is married to a successful dentist who brought with him a rather abrasive young teen from his previous marriage. Imogen is also the mother to a 5 year old and is newly pregnant, and on top of all this she works and runs a B&B. I found Imogen more likeable than Maria. But like everyone, Imogen has a secret, and if anyone finds out, it could destroy her marriage and her family as she knows it.
Thank you so much Inkubator books and Miranda Rijks for my electronic arc in exchange for my honest review.

Overall, this wasn't my favorite style of book. I think the writing style was okay. However, it just wasn't something I got into. I usually like a hook or grab right at the start to keep my attention for this genre, but I didn't get that with this book.
I also didn't relate much to the story's location, so it was hard to envision. I don't think the book is terrible but it isn't the right book for me although it seemed very interesting from the synopsis.
An enjoyable, easy read, yet a little bit predictable in places. Look forward to the next one from this author.
This book sideswiped me!!! I did not see that coming!! If you like a book that can take you by surprise, this is the book for you! Family drama at it's best!!
Thank you to NetGalley for allowing me to read this great book and allowing me to share my opinion!!!
My thanks to Bookouture for an eARC via NetGalley of ‘Husband and Wife’ by K.L. Slater.
Having read a number of Slater’s domestic/psychological thrillers I was fairly confident that her latest would prove almost impossible to put down. I was correct.
The story moves between a few of its character’s points of view in the novel’s present as well as flashbacks to earlier events.
Nicola and Cal are a settled married couple with an adult son, Parker. They are looking after their grandson, Barney, while Parker and his wife, Luna, head off for a weekend away. Before they leave Parker says to Nicola that when they return he needs to talk to her about something important.
Yet before that can happen Parker and Luna are involved in a serious car accident and both are hospitalised with critical injuries. Nicola goes to their home to gather extra clothes and toys for Barney. While there she comes across a distinctive silk scarf - one that had been all over the news recently.
Some weeks before Sarah Grayson had worn a scarf like this on a night out. When her body was found there was no sign of the scarf. The police had put out an appeal seeking to locate this vital piece of evidence as they believed that she had been strangled with it.
Could her beloved son be involved? Or Luna, who is prone to jealous rages? Or is there an innocent explanation? After the police question Luna and the semiconscious Parker, it isn’t long until detectives come knocking… No further details to avoid spoilers.
As noted above this was a total page turner. There were times when I was quite frustrated with Nicola’s behaviour as her instinct to protect Parker often seemed to overwhelm her common sense.
Overall, I found ‘Husband and Wife’ a gripping domestic thriller that proved very satisfying.
4.5 stars rounded up to 5.
This was amazing. It is told from all different perspectives, so you spend some time trying to determine if each person is a killer. The ending was a little bit of a surprise.
I liked it. I love this author so I was happy while reading this.
Who can you trust if you can’t trust your own family? Nicola is over the moon when her son and daughter-in-law ask her to watch their son for a night away. Usually her son Parker and his wife Luna are not available or having to rush away when they visit. But Nicola takes what she can get. When a terrible accident leaves both Parker and Luna in the hospital Nicola starts uncovering secrets that makes her question who her son and his wife really are.
This book was very well written and told from different points of view that only lead to the reader truly not knowing what or who to believe. It was very fast paced and filled with twists that made it a very hard to trust any of the characters.
Thank you to Netgalley and to the publishers for allowing me to read this advanced copy.
This book is outstanding! There are so many strong fantastic characters in this book, each one you will find out more and more about and go through moments of hating them all.
One thing I loved about this book is the fact there are so many twists and turns and just when you think you have the mystery solved it completely changes and it is shocking.
I definitely have become a huge fan of this author’s. I think her stories are very realistic and very current.
Be careful with this book, as you may find yourself staying up way too late to figure out who dunnit!
The book starts off from the point of view of the victim, who meets her untimely end right away. From then on, you are introduced to a husband and wife, and their respective parents. Chapters are presented from the point of view of almost all of the main characters. They also jump from past to present throughout the story, giving you just enough backstory to keep you guessing.
My favorite character was Nicola, who seemed so sweet and loving and normal! She reacted to situations in a very realistic and relatable way.
I enjoyed this book from start to finish. Thanks to #bookouture & #NetGalley for my ARC of #HusbandandWife
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for another great read!
This was a page-turning thriller that took me less than 4 hours to finish. Told from multiple points of view, the past and current day, which kept you guessing and engrossed. Family drama, secrets between husbands and wives. Lies. Betrayals and murder. If you like domestic thrillers, you will love this gem!
Husband and Wife was an interesting thriller where everyone has a secret, and there's a surprise at every turn. I was particularly surprised that although the title is about a husband and wife and the blurb is about them, actually the main character is the husband's mum. That seemed a bit odd. Either way though, this is an enjoyable read with twists I certainly didn't expect.
Another brilliant book by K L Slater - this author draws you in from page one. I could not read each chapter quick enough and as the plot grew I was still hanging on wondering who was guilty. A brilliant but not obvious conclusion. Highly recommend
This one definitely kept me guessing! Between Parker, Luna and all of their parents, I couldn’t decide who to trust less. The end reveal came as a veritable surprise to me - even when I tried to look back for the clues, they were very cleverly hidden. I always enjoy Slater’s work - they write about real, fallible people and know exactly how to keep the pace. Would recommend!
This book was such a page turner! Every time I thought I would know what would happen next I was so wrong. I wanted to know what happened the night of the car accident and couldn’t trust any of the characters. There were so many twists and it kept me on my toes. Such a great book!
Thank you NetGalley, Bookouture, and K.L Slater for the ARC!
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this advanced copy. This one had a great plot and characters I couldn't trust. I didn't know who to trust, and couldn't wait to get to the end so I could find out what REALLY happened. Love her books.
