I found this book to be quite enjoyable, despite only giving it a three-star rating. The story revolves around Maggie, a 35-year-old woman whose life hasn't turned out as she had hoped. Her music career hasn't taken off, she's single and childless, and she has just received the devastating news that her chances of getting pregnant are slim to none. However, she does have her best friend Summer and a pact she made with two men, Asher and Garrett, to get married if they were still single by the age of 35. On her birthday, both men reenter her life, and Maggie wonders if she will finally have everything she's always wanted.

This book explores themes of life, friendship, love, and the importance of making choices that align with one's own desires.

While I did enjoy the overall story, I did find the constant back-and-forth between different points in the past and present to be quite challenging. The frequent time jumps were distracting and made the unfolding of the story feel messy. I believe that a more focused approach would have improved the reading experience. Additionally, there were certain elements that could have been omitted, such as a third act conflict that felt unnecessary. The inclusion of this conflict resulted in a rushed ending, which was disappointing considering the central plot of Maggie choosing between Asher and Garrett. I would have liked to see more time dedicated to exploring the dynamics of the final couple's relationship.

Overall, if you don't mind the frequent time jumps and enjoy a story with multiple layers, I would recommend giving this book a try. However, be prepared for a somewhat disjointed narrative and a rushed conclusion.

I absolutely adored this and really don’t think it’s gotten enough hype. I loved the alternate timelines of Maggie’s life and her interactions with Garrett and Asher. I loved seeing her as a a older adult finding love and fighting for the life she wanted. I also loved her friendship with Summer. I’m not usually a fan of love triangles but I absolutely devoured this. I loved the narration.

Alison's previous book ended in such a way that made me curious if it was her preferred way to show character growth. That on top of a rather intricate love triangle had me wanting to flip to the ending for a spoiler in a big way. (I didn't do it, but I REALLY wanted to).
Maggie has always felt big emotions and carried big dreams. She won't settle for a job that makes her money when she can live what she loves through writing and playing music. At the age of thirty-five, her life is exactly what she doesn't want. But a marriage pact (or two??) from her past spins her world into chaos.
Alison's writing is so lyrical. I am not big on highlighting or marking up books, but I couldn't help myself with how beautiful the sentiments came across to me. I loved every minute of it even when I hated one of the love interests and rooted in the most extreme way possible for the other. Above all else though, the friendship between Maggie and Summer shines brightest of all.
The narrator, Katherine Littrell, performed Maggie's voice well. I've not had the opportunity to listen to an audiobook from her before but I'd happily pick up another.
Thank you to Dreamscape Media and Netgalley for the alc. All thoughts are my own.

I really wanted to like this one, but it just didn’t do it for me. It may have just been the audiobook version so I would suggest trying the e-book of physical version. I was very confused with the timeline as it switched at every chapter. It felt like there was a lot going on and I couldn’t keep track of everything and how old Maggie, the main MC, was at each interaction. I didn’t find enough spark between Maggie with either Garrett or Asher. I actually DNF at 80% because I couldn’t keep going. Oh well, on to the next.

I think I missed something. This book is getting such great reviews and I really did not like it. It was a DNF for me as I found it to be whiny, predictable and annoying. The two different timelines did not work for me - I felt that it was disjointed and they never felt connected. The main character drove me nuts - I did not find anything likeable about her. To me she was whiny and had a very "poor me" attitude, yet I never felt like she was really doing anything to change the track her life was on. I really felt disconnected from the entire story - and after I hit that halfway mark I just stopped. I both read and listened to this and I did not find either to be very engaging. My review seems to be the minority, so maybe I am the wrong reader for this book!

Thank you netgalley for my advanced reader copy.

Love triangles are not my jam. Authors typically write them in over exaggerated ways and pin characters against one another, clearly showing one as evil and one as good. Only an exceptionally talented author could write a story where the reader had a hard time picking which lead male the lead female should end up with. My heart was with both Garrett and Asher because they were perfectly flawed characters. Each had their own personal challenges that felt authentic not only to their characters but also to their story.

I really enjoyed the narrator and how well her tone and cadence match the overall vibe of this book. She expressed each emotion like I envisioned in my head.

I didn’t expect to love how messy this book was. Love isn’t simply black and white, but a multitude of colors, both bright and dim. This author captured the truth behind the unobtainable “happily ever after” and showed the reader the realities of growing, evolving, and how love changes that.

This is one of the best love stories I have read in a long time that not only challenged my heart, but engrossed my mind. It’s the kind of story that you still think about well after it’s done because of how emotionally attached you get to it. There was just one aspect of the story that just felt a smidge “preachy” which kept me from giving this a full five stars, but I truly loved this story overall.

Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the ALC

Thanks NetGalley for the ARC of this audiobook. I thought this sweet romance was cute with a little bow on top. I love dual timelines, I think that makes the story really fun and see how the characters develop over time.

SIMPLY charming and utterly lovable.
I absolutely adored this story, the characters and thoroughly enjoyed this on audio.

It all started with the saying: “When we are still single when we’re 35, we should get married”. Female lead, Maggie Vine, however, made this promise to two different men from two unique times in her life.

The plot thickens when both men waltzed into her life at 35 years old - while still interested in having a lifetime partner, she now has different priorities from when the promises were made and them, actually considering said promise while also having their own baggage - her summer camp teenage love (Asher) and her 20s handsome boy best friend (Garrett).

It was all fun, chaotic, and kind of romantic until the female lead seemed to go back and forth between these two men. This almost made me drop the book: screaming red flag female lead. 🫠

Its saving grace, perhaps, is Asher Reyes. Despite all of the character’s flaws, I think Asher had the least. I loved his personality. Anyway, all's well that ends well. While I don't think Maggie was able to redeem herself in the end, I felt okay with how everything has been resolved. It kind of reminded me of the Filipino film with the title Will You Be My Ex? - only with the female lead ending up with her own love life.

After bad luck bridesmaid I was hesitant to read this book because although I loved 90% of that book the ending just didn’t agree with me (let’s be honest, had it not been marketed as a romance but as women’s fiction I would have liked it better), so I was really worried about the direction of this book and… I loved it. I never knew exactly where it was going which yes, worried me, but also kept me engaged. The book is written beautifully, with characters that are so human and flawed they feel real, and I lost count of how many times it made me cry (always a plus for me).

This book really delivered everything that it promised and I am so happy I gave it a chance.

I listened to about 10% and couldn't keep going. The storyline was hard to follow IMO and truly she had no chemistry with Garrett. I didn't want to root for her and she was too much of a mess.

I really liked this one. It just didn’t have that extra “wow” factor I was looking for, but other than that I really enjoyed!

I very much enjoyed this book. Maggie found her passion in music early in life and knew it was a part of her being. She had difficult relationships with her parents, who were controlling, absent and in her face (one of each), demanding, angry, judgmental and people who never showed or taught her about love in a healthy way. It of course shaped her life and she spent much of her life trying to find a healthy love with no roadmap. And so she finds herself in love with two very different men, neither of whom can or are willing to commit to her in the way she needs. Kind of a love triangle, but not. I’m not doing this justice with this review, but the story is about a woman finally figuring out her worth and making her dreams come true instead of waiting for anyone else to do it for her which ultimately leads to her very own happily ever after exactly as she wants it to be. It’s an emotional, lovely, heartfelt, honest, funny, ironic and witty read.

Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the audiobook ARC! Maybe Once, Maybe Twice by Alison Rose Greenberg is a second chance romance between two male leads. Maggie Vine has been desperately in love with Garrett for years, and she made a pact with him five years ago that if they were both still single on her 35th birthday, they would get married. However, Garrett reveals to her that he's just gotten engaged to someone else. Maggie is crushed, but a sudden reconnection with her first love and now celebrity, Asher Reyes, could jump start her music career and heal her heart. The past and how they all got to where they are now is revealed as Maggie interacts with Garrett and Asher in the present. Who does she love? The narrative is moving as Maggie reflects on her relationships and the breaking points in each relationship and the ending is a fulfilling conclusion (or a great start for Maggie). Maybe Once, Maybe Twice is an emotional page-turner perfect for romance fans. Katherine Littrell provides an excellent performance for the audiobook.

Rating:4

Maybe Once, Maybe Twice was quite a unique read. With changing timelines, you get to know Maggie Vine and the two greatest loves of her life. While throughout the book I found myself wondering who she was going to choose, it wasn’t until the very end when I realized there book was written with one clear winner, and luckily it was the one I would have chose.

There are a lot of layers to this story, which I think also made it unique. I would highly recommend reading this. I did a combination of reading and listening and with the time jumps it made it really hard to follow along. The narrator did great, but it’s not the easiest to follow on audio.

I have to admit, this wasn't my favorite... Too much of the connection between Maggie and her two loves seemed to be played out in their sexual escapades, not in their actual connection. After the first twenty minutes of the audiobook, I seriously considered skipping this one because I prefer clean romance to spicier love stories. But I hoped there would be something that redeemed the story for me.

In the end, we ultimately understand why Maggie is as messed up as she is, and for good reason! But it's almost too late in the story. There were so many times when she could have spoken up, to clarify misunderstandings, but instead let them stand.

Ultimately, I just couldn't feel attached to any of the characters since no one, other than Maggie's best friend, seemed to have a backbone. We hear over and over how much she loves both Asher and Garrett, and how she can't live without either of them. But she's never honest with either of them until the very end of the book.

So, I can't really recommend this story, personally. It wasn't at all heartwarming for me. And when she did finally carve our her own path forward, I didn't find it at all satisfying.

Thanks to Alison Rose Greenberg, Dreamscape Media, and NetGalley for an advance review copy.

I loved every minute of this! Alison Rose Greenberg is a delightful author, she made me laugh out loud multiple times. This was so delightful to listen to. I wasn’t sure who I was rooting for which is new for me! It’s not easy to make a reader fall for two lead men and still like the main character! Highly recommend this read!!
♥️ Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this audiobook ARC.

This story had some of my favorite elements, a love triangle, a second chance (or two), a marriage pact (or two). I really enjoyed it.

Maybe Once, Maybe Twice by Alison Greenberg is SO, SO good!! Honestly, after I write this review, I may just delve into it again!!

I haven’t read anything by Alison Greenberg before, and I am certain I will check out her first book ASAP.

This book was just released yesterday, so go grab it NOW!!

The book started off a little slow (or maybe I was just not engaged - that’s why I need to delve in again ASAP) but quickly grabbed my attention and had me eager to find out what happened next.

I just love Maggie. She is so true to herself and such a freaking girl boss. I love that she knew what she wanted and went for it.

I was cheering for Garrett then cheering for Asher then cheering for Garrett then cheering for Asher…. I didn’t know what I wanted…. But Maggie did. 🩷🩷

This book touched on so many things - and man, I LOVED IT.

Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscapes Media for making the advanced audio copy of Maybe Once Maybe Twice in exchange for my honest opinion. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
