Wild Magic was such a fun and refreshing read! The mix of humor, adventure, and magic made it an enjoyable escape. The whole “Magic for Hire” concept is pretty cool, and it added a nice twist to the typical fantasy story. I loved how the world felt both magical and grounded at the same time—it made it easy to get lost in the story.

The characters were definitely a highlight for me. They’re quirky, likable, and had great chemistry with each other. The banter between them kept things light and entertaining, even during the more action-packed moments. I also appreciated that the story didn’t take itself too seriously. It had a nice balance of fun and tension, which kept me hooked.

There were a few spots where the pacing felt a bit uneven, but overall, the story moved along nicely and kept me engaged. If you’re looking for a light, magical read with a bit of humor and heart, Wild Magic is a great pick. I’m definitely curious to see where this series goes next!

What an enjoyable read! I loved that this was a fantasy book, but could also very much fit into the category of a mystery novel. I’m not a massive fantasy reader, but I read a ton of mystery, and I thought this was PERFECT for me. I honestly don’t have anything negative to say. I saw that the second book in this series has already come out. I would love to read it and my hope is that it continues with more information on this Joe character. Readers are left on such a cliffhanger!

What an enjoyable book to read. Thank you NetGalley!

Wild Magic started off with a bang. There’s a great opening scene at a nightclub filled with magical creatures and humans who don’t realize they are among vampires, demons, fairies, witches and mages - right in midtown Manhattan! Unfortunately, for me, the rest of the book didn’t live up to its exciting start.

Peri is a mage, apparently a very powerful one although at the beginning of the book she hasn’t realized it quite yet. Valen, is a vampire who “rules” the NYC area and is filthy rich. Peri works in a coffee shop/bookstore in Linden, New Jersey, which I thought was a fun touch. Maya and Skye are her two partners in the Witches’ Brew. Both Peri and Valen are incredibly gorgeous - I know this because the author repeats this endlessly throughout the book. It had me rolling my eyes. Valen is about 2,000 years old but has never felt about anyone the way he suddenly feels about Peri. Really? Not in 2,000 years?

The story itself was pretty interesting and involved a Wyoming ranch where Peri’s mother, a witch who wanted to steal Peri’s magical talents, has died - along with her whole coven. It’s a mystery as to what happened.

There’s an evil “miasma” that is spreading and Peri and Valen are trying to corral and eliminate it.

I would have liked to see more of the “magic for hire” that this series is named for. The opening sequence was pretty much all we got.

A second book in the series is due out shortly, so I’m glad I finally got a chance to read this one. The next book is about Skye. I probably won’t be picking it up, but others, I’m sure, will really enjoy this urban fantasy series. It just wasn’t for me.

Thank you to NetGalley and Lyrical Press for the opportunity to read a review copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

Peri Sanguis hasn't had an easy life. Mage born from a witch mother and head of the coven, Brenda Sanguis was envious of having a daughter more powerful than her. Brenda unable to control her anger, jealousy and envy of her daughter's power decided to take it from her by attempting to kill her by stabbing her in the chest with a power draining ritual knife. Fortunately for Peri, her "Wild Magic' protected her with a burst of energy that knocked her mother and coven unconscious, and she was able to escape and heal.

Years later we find Peri happy and managing The Witch's Brew along with her magical sisters of the heart, until she receives bad news that her mother and her coven have died under suspicious circumstances. Gabriel Lyon, vampire and part of the Authority which protects all magical beings brings the news to Peri telling her the Coven looked drained and mummified.

When Peri and Gabriel head to the Wyoming ranch, they find one member alive, and she tells them that Brenda tried to bring forth the "Miasma' or "Mage Bane' and was drained by the entity. What the group doesn't know is that the Miasma has absorbed Brenda and know has focused on Peri and her power. Now it hunts for Peri, absorbing human and magical alike following her to New Jerey. Gabriel has to find a way to destroy the Miasma before he loses the woman he has come to love. He's waited for over 2000 yrs. to find his mate and he'll sacrifice his own life to save hers.

Ich weiß ehrlich gesagt nicht, wie ich dieses Buch bewerten soll, da ich es aufgrund relativ kurzer Ausleihdauer (ohne Verlängerung) nicht lesen konnte.

Throwback to the feels I got reading paranormal romance in my teens. The slowburn romance gave me Vampire Diaries vibes and the mystery that unravels throughout the book and the pacing meant that it was easy to read.

“But I’m not half-of-a-whole sort of woman. I’m whole all by myself”

Wild Magic is written in the genre of urban fantasy/mystery with some paranormal romance involving witches, mages, demons, and vampires.

First off….Peri is a QUEEEEEEN 👑
She is so fiercely independent that it left me in awe of her. Her ability to rebuild herself after such trauma and betrayal in her life really spoke to me. I think the author did an incredible job creating a strong FMC, which is what I love to see in a book.
Valen is just as good. The way he supports her and matches her energy is just lovely to follow. Throughout the book he makes a point to allow Peri to flourish and discover herself, which is such king behavior.

I love love love a good fantasy book with a mystery storyline. Alexandra combines these genres very well and the book had many thrilling and page-turning moments.

This story also contained a lot of character building between all of the main players. This makes me hopeful that there will be more world building to come in the next book!

The ending was so good and I definitely have my theories. I can’t wait to see what Alexandra Ivy does next!

This short mysterious, magical, slow burn romance really hit the spot for me. It took me right out of a reading slump. A must read!

This was a fascinating and fun read. I loved the struggle Peri went through as she worked through her past, the mystery surrounding the coven, and her feelings toward Valen. And, Valen, initially came off as a single-faceted character that was only concerned with Peri via a weird obsession. But, after time, the depth of who he was and his motivations came to light.

It was a beautifully woven story that built over time in complexity. I'm hoping this isn't a one-off and turns into a series because I'd love to read more!

I received this book through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own

I loved this book! Enemies to lovers, a magical mystery quest, bad ass mage FMC, and sexy, brooding, touch her and I’ll kill you Vampire mob boss; this is the fantasy mafia of my dreams.

Love the sassy banter, interesting magic rules that are introduced in digestible ways, and how just easy the read is. I need two pack of these kind of books to read a day please!

Can’t wait for the second book, I want it in my hands asap

I am so happy to have read this one! Once upon a time, urban fantasy was my to go genre to take a break, it was a sort of comfort genre for me, but then I started outgrowing it and, sadly, I didn't find new series to love. I still continue, and love, some of the ones I started back in the day but as far as novelty go, I haven't find some new series to read. I tried the first volume of a lot of them, and I am not saying that they were bad, just that I didn't fall in love with them as I was hoping/expecting. But this one... this one was something different!
I really enjoyed the setting, and I love that we have so many supernatural beings around. I really hope to see more of them around in the next books. And I really enjoyed the characters, Peri is a strong woman, who has her heart in the right place, and Valen is her swoon-worthy counterpart.
And the plot was interesting enough. I had a really good time with this book, and I am really happy to have read it!

Alexandra Ivy's 'Wild Magic' catapulted me into a whirlwind of paranormal romance, weaving a narrative rich with mages, demons, vampires, and an enthralling murder mystery. As a lifelong book enthusiast, particularly of stories that blend the mystical with the romantic, I found myself captivated by the tale of Peri Sanguis. Her journey from a tumultuous past, marked by betrayal and danger, to her alliance with the enigmatic Valen, ruler of the Vampire Cabal, struck a chord with me. Their mission to unravel the mysteries of a deadly magical mist and the demise of Peri's mother was both fast-paced and filled with a slow-burning romance that was as frustrating as it was delightful.

The dynamic between Peri and Valen, characterized by witty banter and mutual respect, was a highlight, showcasing Ivy's ability to craft characters that are as complex as they are charismatic. While I yearned for more depth and involvement from secondary characters like Skye and Maya, the promise of their stories in future installments keeps me eagerly anticipating more.

Despite some initial confusion at the story's onset, the latter two-thirds of the book were so engaging that any early ambiguity faded away. Ivy's world, replete with intrigue, danger, and love, rekindled my admiration for her storytelling prowess. 'Wild Magic' is not just a book but an invitation into a universe I'm not ready to leave. My thanks to Netgalley and Kensington Books for this enchanting read; I'm already counting down to the next adventure in this series.

The story was entertaining and kept my attention. Definitely a different take when the community you grow up in tries to kill you for something that’s out of your control but very relatable to “real” life. Even though this has a romance and the male main character seems to be set on finding his one true love in the 16-year-old girl from the beginning, the romance actually turns out to be a slow burn and one in which the main character can hold her own. Thank you NetGalley for the e-book!
