Thank you Netgalley and Ms. Orth for the ARC!
Reading this book was a beautiful and intriguing experience.
The author’s ability to intertwine lyrical writing with a compelling plot is truly impressive.
Some parts didn’t align with my personal tastes, yet the book’s overall charm and depth made it easy to overlook those moments.
I wholeheartedly recommend this book to readers who are looking for a novel that is both intellectually and emotionally rewarding.

Review: I'm not quite sure how to write this, because I have mixed feelings about this book. There are some funny stories, some good descriptions, and some great travels. And while I knew there would be a focus on faith, I had a hard time following some of the thought processes/references and did think she sometimes took things to an extreme/was a little judgmental for my taste. (Though I do also acknowledge that there was some growth in this area, too.) With the focus on faith and self-discovery, I was disappointed that so much of the book was focused on "boys" and relationship struggles. I appreciated her honesty and vulnerability and, as an avid traveler, I could certainly identify with some of the locations she described and feelings she had.
Follow along with Angie Orth as she traipses around the world in search of her purpose in life.
This was a wildly entertaining read. Orth is a wonderful storyteller. She paints vivid pictures with her words; I felt as if I was right there with her on her journey. I appreciated how she focused on all the real aspects of traveling and how difficult it can be sometimes. Her faith in God is relatable and inspiring. I really enjoyed this book.

The beginning of the book is a bit intimidating with vast amounts of information going back and forth. Motor through it, it doesn’t last long. Once Angie boards the plane, the story picks up and never slows down. It’s a thoroughly enjoyable book because of the adventures, the way she has with words and the valuable life lessons that she learns (and the reader gets to learn with her.) I recognize my younger, single self in her struggles as I’m sure many single women in their 20s and 30s will. I find her views as refreshing and down to earth. It is obvious that they came through hardships and wrestling with God. Favorite characterization: “I assume he’s European, since his shoes are shiny and his pants are slim fit.” As a European this strikes me as funny (Americans are known here for wearing sneakers, jeans and Tshirts.) Favorite sentence: “....after college my faith evolved from satisfying a disappointed, vindictive God with rule following and people pleasing to a relationship with a loving Father.” Yeah! Favorite (unspoken) comeback, “I choose not to have sex before marriage, and that doesn’t hurt anyone. It’s between me and God and my future husband. I don’t need your approval. I don’t need your judgment, and I don’t accept your shame.” Go Angie. Loved reading how the trip completely changed her point of view. “God protected me from things I didn’t know I needed protection from.” Isn’t that the truth, and years later you realize what a disaster that decision would have been had you gotten what you thought you really wanted at that point. A book full of laughter and deep life lessons. I’d highly recommend giving this one a try.

What a delightful new voice! Angie Orth's travel memoir reads like a book of adventure stories. I felt like I was exploring along with my new bestie. I loved that it wasn't presented as a picture-perfect, shiny, happy vacation, but a grand adventure filled with of ups and downs, both emotional and situational. Angie's faith is inspiring and refreshing and is woven into her everyday life. I will keep reading Angie Orth!
I absolutely loved this book! It's a travel memoir full of humor, wit, faith, and heart. At times laugh-out-loud hilarious and at other times contemplative and poignant, I thoroughly enjoyed going on this journey with the author.
Angie quit her PR job in New York to embark on a year-long solo trip around the world in 2011, despite misgivings from family and friends. Along the way, she experienced tons of new adventures and friendships, as well as some not-so-great situations and heartbreaks.
As someone who also quit my job to travel in my twenties, I found this book SO relatable, and it was just what I needed to read. Highly recommend!
Flirting With Disaster by Angie Orth is a great travel memoir. It’s an example of what of what it means to take a leap of faith and live fully trusting Jesus. Angie has so much courage and I loved following her journey and hearing about the lessons she learned.

Great travel memoir. Laugh out loud funny! I felt like I was right there with her with her descriptions and background information.. I respected her vulnerability with her personal life and how it was brilliantly weaved in with biblical references into the book..
Flirting with Disaster by Angie Orth takes us along on a journey of discovery with the woman behind the popular travel blog, Angie Away. Having been a follower for years, I was anxious to peek behind the curtain of what is presumably a carefully curated social media account, and I was pleasantly surprised to learn that the woman at the helm is every bit as transparent and relatable as one would hope.
Angie took a leap of faith as her thirtieth birthday loomed large on the horizon. Resisting a more traditional path of marriage and children, she set out to see the world as a woman on her own at a time when it was less the done thing. She relies on her faith in God to put her on the right path, staying true to her own self and divine beliefs, and takes us along for the often bumpy ride. If you love to read about travel exploits and discoveries, this personal account will certainly float your boat. 3.5 stars
