Thank you NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for an ARC.
This book made me grit my teeth in frustration.
Maria was a total psycho and her behavior was outrageous which of course was the point. I really enjoyed reading her POV chapters and the author did a great job of taking the reader inside an insane woman's mind. I found it fascinating how she tried to justify her own actions.
Imogen as a character evoked mixed feelings in me. Mostly I was annoyed by her. She was scattered, self-flagellating, and irrational. And yet she had a core of strength in her that I appreciated.
Her relationship with her husband, Josh, was dysfunctional to say the least. The fact that it suddenly randomly resolved itself at the end left me somewhat puzzled.
Throughout the narrative, we are given hints that Imogen has some darkness inside her. This storyline just breaks off and dies at the end. Would've liked to see this expounded on further particularly given what happened to Maria.
On that note, we find out at the very end why Maria was even doing all this in the first place. However it left me wanting. Was it a strong enough motive? I'm not sure. And why did she choose Imogen to glom on to? What happened with Clare? I would've liked the author to go deeper into the backstory here.
There are no surprises or twists here and yet the book is very well written and kept me engaged throughout.
This book gave me the eerie/frustrated feelings I normally get from domestic thrillers, but there were too many flaws for me to overlook. There are some plot holes along with some grammatical errors that did make me re-read the sentence a few times to figure out what was trying to be said. I did really enjoy the husband not being a total idiot in this, because in many similar books, it's the same old song and dance of the husband never believing the wife. I think fans of Sally Hepworth or Lisa Jewell may enjoy this novel.
Net Galley, thank you for letting me read this prior to its publish date.
As a fan of Psychological Thrillers, this title definitely takes a spot in my top 5. I love the way Miranda uses the change of perspective to not only build suspense, but let you inside the mind of your narrators. You could easily feel the tension and unease as everything came to a climax. If it weren't for needing to go to work I would have read the whole thing in one night!

This is the first book that I have read by Miranda Rijks and it definitely won't be my last. The book gripped me and I loved the twists and turns, definitely recommend!
The Homemaker, by Miranda Rijks, is by far one of the best psychological /domestic thrillers that I have read in a long time. I love the plot that was full of twists, the characters that were well developed, and the ending that was perfect. I've read all of Rijks' books, but this one might be my favorite!
Just OMG! Every book of Miranda Rijks just gets better and better. She’s truly phenomenal. This was a captivating read. Disturbing, dark and deliciously twisted. The characters were fascinating and kept me hooked from beginning to end. Definitely one of my top books of the year.
Thank you NetGalley, Miranda Rijks and Bookouture for the opportunity to read and review this cracker of a book.
Solid 4/5 stars!! This is my first book from Netgalley and let me just say, every other books got some big shoes to fill! I never heard of this author before but I’m so glad I read this book because I’ll definitely be picking up another one of hers soon! I loved the writing and plot! The book made me feel like at times I felt bad for Maria and then I remembered why I shouldn’t!! So well written! There were only a few editing mistakes but other than that, solid book! Can’t wait to pick up more Miranda Rijks books!
The story flowed well and the characters were well developed. I recommend this book and look forward to more from this author.

Thank you NetGalley and Inkubator Books for an early copy of The Homemaker. CRAAAAAAZY book, I Loved it!!! I did not like Imogen one bit and Maria was a psycho. Great writing, awesome plot and wackiness all around. A great rainy day read. Soooooo gooooood.
I started this late yesterday night and finished it at 5 am. Such a fun, breathless. And twisty ride. Don't pick this up thinking you'll read a few just a few chapters. You won't be able to tear your eyes away until the final word. Maria was absolutely one of the best written delusional and manipulative characters I've read in awhile.
This was a twisty read and very creepy at times. I read it in a day as I couldn't put it down. I loved the way the backstory revealed itself piece by piece throughout the story. This would make a great film. My thanks to netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.
Yet another winner! I flew this on my day off and what a day off it was! The premise or original, plenty twists and turns, my jaw dropped more than once at the big reveals.... I literally went and re read some parts because I was so taken aback lol! The characters are well written and realistic, the writing flows really well and the book has a good pace woth the plot constantly moving forward a must read!
