Miss Austin Investigates by Jessica Bull is a fun cozy historical mystery with an unexpected plot.
Full of Jane Austin references this novel has me excited for the next one
This book is still on our bestseller list after two months of its release. It’s delighting our customers and keeping those looking for a cozy mystery at bay. As a side note, this cover is SO MUCH better than the other covers I’ve seen for this title. Yikes!
If you like historical stories that includes intrigue, murder, romance, bourgeoisie and other classes, this book is definitely for you.
Was a bit too boring and slow-paced for me but I did like the world building, I could imagine myself there with Jane.
December 1795 While attending a ball at Deane House, a body is discovered, that of Zoe Renard, while Jane Austen behaves like Lydia Bennet with Tom Lefroy. When her brother is accused and arrested of theft of Mme Renard's necklace, Jane decides to investigate
An entertaining historical mystery a decent start to this new series.

Thank you to NetGalley, Killer Crime Club, and HarperCollins Canada for this ARC. Such a fun read. If you love this era, Jane Austin and murder mysteries. This is for you. Hoping this will be a lengthy series!
The first few chapters describe Jane Austen's family. Naturally, that lead me to do more research to find that the information is historically correct. The Austen's attend a gala event at Deane House where a woman is found dead in a locked cupboard. The question is who knew this woman and why did they want her dead, However, the matter is further complicated when Jane's brother is accused of stealing the woman's necklace. Jane feels not enough is being done to solve the crime so she sets out to do it herself. It is interesting the social constraints that she must somewhat adhere to due to the time period such as venturing out as a woman by herself. The men and women who think she is just using her over active imagination. Despite the obstacles, she is determined to eliminate suspects. I felt the story was a bit long and dragged a bit in the middle but I did enjoy the story. I thought it was masterful how the author chose a well known person and presented her in a different way. Not just Jane Austen the author, but Jane Austen the amateur sleuth. Very well done. Would recommend.
Thank you NetGalley and Killer Crime Club, Harper Collins Canada for the opportunity to read this ARC so that I may voluntarily provide my feedback.

Jane Austen finds herself at a society ball where a lady is found. To make matters worse her brother is later found with the dead murder lafy’s necklace. She’ll have to clear her brother’s name and find a killer. Welcome to world of a sleuthing in this historical story.
A well intriguing read that holds your interest with references to the original story.

I’ve been a Jane Austen fan for years so was truly delighted to read Miss Austen Investigates. Jane Austen with her wit, charm and heartfelt passion makes a brilliant sleuth. I especially enjoyed Jessica Bull’s take on the Austen family life and relationship with her siblings. And I enjoyed her exploration of Jane’s bittersweet romance with Tom. Beautifully written and plotted. It’s the perfect mystery to devour over a weekend!

A new mystery series featuring none other than Jane Austen. When a woman is found murdered and Jane’s brother, Georgie, is the chief suspect, Jane jumps into action to find the real killer. This was a fun one. I look forward to the next instalment. Thanks to HarperCollins and NetGalley for the ARC.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the advanced reader copy of Miss Austn Investigates by Jessica Bull in exchange for a review.
Sadly this book joins my short list of unfinished ARCs.
The main issue I had with this book was the characterisation of the main character - Miss Austen.
At the beginning of the book a young Jane Austen is in love with a man who does not appear a suitable match - particularly because he persuades her in joining him in a scandalous assignation in a green house while attending a party at the beginning of the book. This set up immediately put me off. If authors want to create fictional stories about real life historical figures they should treat the characterisation of the individual more respectfully. The Jane Austen in this novel comes across as selfish and a bit wild as opposed to spirited or enthusiastic.
This book did not grab my interest through the first 100 pages so I decided not to continue with it.
