I love a good retelling. They make me feel nostalgic and happy. This book does nothing new and does not do the old thing very well either. It is neither fresh nor nostalgic. I do not recommend this book for library purchase, There are many good retellings out there and there is no need to stock the shelves with uninteresting retellings.

Stealing Glass by Liv Strom weaves the tale of two dreamers whose lives intersect in a world of stark contrasts. The story follows a street thief who, despite her harsh realities, retains a profound appreciation for beauty and a deep empathy for those far removed from her own suffering. In parallel, it explores the life of a prince recently returned from exile, bound by duty to his father rather than his people, and whose heart has been scarred by the loss of a past love due to his royal responsibilities. Strom masterfully captures the essence of Vanya and Dimitri, depicting their divergent worlds with exceptional depth and nuance. While not a traditional Cinderella tale, this novel is a must-read for fantasy enthusiasts, offering a richly imaginative and compelling narrative that is sure to captivate and inspire.

Stealing Glass is an imaginative retelling of Cinderella with plot twists and cliffhangers to die for. Full of magic and shifting loyalties.
Loved that Vanya was such a strong woman even after everything she's gone through. Also her being a thief was awesome. I can't wait to see what happenes in the next book.

Meet Vanya, a sweet girl in a tricky town. One day, she accidentally pretends to be a princess marrying the crown prince. As she falls for Dimi, she discovers her own magical powers, showing she's more than just a poor girl. The story is full of surprises about her sister and Dimi, keeping you hooked. It's a thrilling journey that leaves you excited to find out what happens next. This book makes every girl's dream of becoming a badass princess come true!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for a free ARC in exchange for a review.

First off, wow, Vanya really hates her mom. She is constantly going on about how stupid her mom was for becoming a prostitute to provide for family and delusional for trying to better her children through education?

To me, this was really similar to a book that I adore, Little Thieves (even the main character's name!), which wasn't super helpful because I kept thinking about how that book did all this better.

I'm also not sure how much this really is a Cinderella retelling, other than the stepfamily and there is a shoe? It definitely leaned more into the Goose Girl vibes than anything else for me.

Honestly if you like the idea of a reformed thief passing herself off as a princess, I would just read Little Thieves.

Three stars.

I am not typically one who reaches for a Cinderella retelling, but when you add in the twists and turns that Liv Strom has--who can resist??
From the first page I was taken in and absolutely enchanted by the story. I was never bored or found any of the characters lacking in any way.

Really good twist on the Cinderella story, different enough that it doesn’t feel like you’re actually reading Cinderella. Quick based and easy to follow.

If you love a good fairytale retelling with an in-depth plot, complex characters, and well thought out world building, you’ll love Stealing Glass! This is a Cinderella retelling that’s full of scheming, magic, and deceit. It has a *chef’s kiss* slow burn romance that you won’t want to put down.

The fact that this was a dark retelling of Cinderella caught my attention and I’m glad it did because this was a great read. The author does a great job in setting the atmosphere and gives you an FMC that your love throughout the book. The spin of the Cinderella story, making Vanya a thief, made the story more interesting. Can’t wait to read the next book after the cliffhanger!

At first I was very intrigued in the story and then it kind of seemed to slowly come apart. The main character, in my opinion, was annoying and it just seemed like the author was trying way too hard to make her this badass heroin but it just felt forced. The other thing I didn't like was when she got caught in the palace by the prince, her first thought isn't how to get out of this mess but, "I'll just kiss the prince because why the hell not?". I'm sorry, what? I lost interest after that and quit.

Stealing Glass has such high prospects to be the start a fantastic series. I love fairy tale retellings, any and all types, and the premise of this one certainly did not disappoint. I greatly enjoyed the characters and the cliffhanger at the end took my breath. I liked that Vanya was relatable and that she didn’t settle into a boring cookie cutter victim turned heroine role. I also enjoyed that Stealing Glass had its share of plot twists as I really appreciate a story that can successfully weave betrayals and intrigue. The only critique that I really have for this book is that I felt the pacing was a bit off and the plot could feel a bit disjointed at times. If it had flowed a bit more smoothly, this would have been a five star read for sure.

Stealing Glass is an interesting twist on Cinderella. The main character, Vanya, is a thief, along with her twin sister, Lumi. After the death of their mother, they are greatly in debt to their stepfather with no chance of paying him back. Through a series of seemingly unfortunate events, Vanya is forced to pretend to be the missing princess promised to marry the prince, Dimitri. Dimitri has his own reasons to not want to marry the princess, but they both must continue with this forced proposal. With twists and turns everywhere, it’s unclear who can be trusted and who is trying to destroy the kingdom.

I thought this book overall was really interesting and Vanya was a captivating protagonist. There were plot twists I did not see coming and it kept me speeding to the end to see what would happen. This story ends on a cliffhanger setting up for the next book “Claiming Glass”. The writing felt a bit clunky at times but overall this was a very enjoyable story!

What if Cinderalla was a thief - a commoner?

What if the fairy tale you've read were turned upside down on it's head?

What if the Prince is not marrying for love?

And this is one of those books that is a retelling upside down. Strom did a great job of bringing to life characters and creating a storyline that is both entertaining and exciting.

I just reviewed Stealing Glass by Liv Strom. #StealingGlassCinderella #NetGalley

I didn't have time to finish this but up until the point I got to I enjoyed it a lot! I love retellings and this one was interesting, I definitely want to pick this up and finish reading it now that it is published. From what I ended up reading it was very fun on the Cinderella story with very interesting characters.

Stealing Glass is a captivating blend of Cinderella and dystopian society, with a twist of griffons. Vanya, a poor girl living with her terrible step-father, turns to thievery with her twin sister Lumi. When their latest heist goes wrong, Vanya impersonates the missing foreign bride of the prince due to their resemblance. This storyline gives major Barbie Princess and the Pauper vibes, with a strong female lead in Vanya. Dimitri, the prince fueled by revenge, adds an intriguing element. However, the world-building falls a bit flat and transitions can be confusing. Eki stands out as a unique character. Despite their stubbornness, the main characters keep readers engaged. Overall, Stealing Glass offers an intriguing blend of fairy tale retellings in a dystopian setting.

This was okay, but I didn't love it. As a Cinderella retelling, the twist on the elements is interesting and I enjoyed the changes, but I just wasn't into the worldbuilding. It was a bit confusing at times and it dragged on a bit, making reading feel like a bit of a chore sometimes.

I didn't find the characters super compelling either, so they didn't really resonate with me. I didn't dislike them, I just didn't connect with them. It could be that this book just isn't for me, so I see a lot of people liking it more. Overall, I think it's worth the read if you enjoy retellings and the idea of Cinderella being a struggling thief piques your interest.

This book was great! This was my first introduction to this author, and serves as one of my first retellings I've had the pleasure of reading. There was a great magic system, high stakes, and slow burn romance. Overall, I could not get enough of this story. I was hooked after a few chapters, fairly easy read. I would definitely recommend!
