Above ‘N’ Beyond, the final installment in Tee O’Fallon’s Federal K-9 series is full of tension-filled action! Lots of suspense with undercover work infiltrating a crime family, makes this a page-turner to the very end. Add in some wonderful dogs “stealing” the show, and you have a great book!
Above ‘N’ Beyond, the seventh book in the Federal K-9 series by Tee O’Fallon, is an edge-of-your-seat, tension-filled, and suspenseful undercover operation with ribbons of romance threaded throughout. The actions and reactions of this character-driven story precipitate the story’s mayhem and upheaval.
It is the love of family, both good and bad, that Jamie and Bella seek…though for reasons as different as their circumstances. Once the first page is turned, they then can't be turned quickly enough to appease the curiosity of what is to befall the couple next.
This has been a series where each story can be considered a stand-alone, but at the same time each new story builds upon its predecessor(s) in that there are character re-appearances…though a backstory is not needed. This has been a series that I can see myself easily rereading again.
This ARC book was complimentary and provided by the Publisher and NetGalley. I am voluntarily providing my honest review.
Step into the “Family” in this mafia based story. Jamie and Bella have incredible chemistry add in Gnocchi and Jax and you have perfect story. I Dont like to give spoilers in my reviews but I do have to say when Big Mama was taken away I was quite upset :) Plenty of suspense in this one. Couldn’t put it down
We are back with another wonderful story in this series. This time it belongs to undercover K-9 Sargeant Jamie Pataglio. For the last six months, Jamie has been in a high security prison in order to ingrain himself with the capo of a well known crime family.
He’s doing it to not only to bring down the Mancuso crime family but mainly because he’s made a deal with the Feds. In exchange for his work, his father, who is in prison, will be let go so he can undergo cancer treatment.
Once out of prison and working for the Mancusco’s, there is one person Jamie never expected to turn his world upside down, Bella Bianco. Bella is the niece of the Mancusco “godmother”, and co-owner of Bianco’s bistro. A true innocent in this mess . But as much as he’s attracted to Bella, he can’t tell her the truth. That will not stop him from doing all he can to keep her safe.
As the danger increases, will Jamie be able to keep his cover? Will Bella feel betrayed? Will Jamie survive to save not only Bella but his father as well?
The plot was engaging, Jax the K-9 was quite a character and the main characters , Bella and Jamie, well developed and likable.
The story also is a reminder that life is not black and white, but various shades of gray.
As much as this reader enjoyed the story, I was sorry to see the series end. Kudos to the author for another winner not only in the series but also for all the wonderful stories she has created. Looking forward for what else she has in store in future stories.
I was entrusted a copy of this book by Netgalley, and Entangled : Amara.
The opinions expressed solely my own.
Fantastic end to a great series! I loved this book and was immediately engrossed in the story, starting with Jamie's getting himself sent to prison to get in good with a a mob boss. It works, and before long, he's in Bella's restaurant working for her cousin, the mob boss. Bella never signed up to have the mob in her restaurant, but she is powerless to stop it. Jamie's job is to infiltrate and take the bad guys/gals down.....which would be easier if his FBI supervisor would give him room to work, instead of constantly trying to set him up for a painful death. Further complicating things is how he is immediately smitten with Bella, not even knowing if she is innocent or guilty.
This book has it all - cute k-9's, hot characters, and plenty of sexiness and danger. I found myself invested in the characters and wanting them to get their HEA ending I was totally engrossed and was turning pages just as quickly as possible to see what happened next. Truly, the only negative is that this is the final novel in the series. I have loved each book in it and am sorry for it to end.
If you enjoy the genre, you will love this book. While part of a series, this is a stand alone novel. However, it's so good that you really owe it to yourself to read them all. The author is on my must read authors' list.
I've read several of this author's books—most involving K-9s—and have had mixed reactions, some hitting high notes and others just fair to middling. This one is one of the better ones. Both Jaime and Bella are characters to root for, even if their pooches frequently steal the limelight.
Jamie exemplifies the person who will do anything for his loved ones. Unfortunately, he has a low opinion of himself and his worth, though his reasons aren't very convincing. Bella is trapped between a hard place and a harder place. We've all seen those mafia movies and know that it's virtually impossible to ever escape from their clutches. But for an HEA to happen, escape has to happen here.
That's where the story strains credulity a little bit. Jaime takes great care to keep his true identity a secret, and he supposedly has a phone with no contacts on it in case the mafia checks it. But then he frequently gets calls and texts and leaves his phone in random places (well at least during sexy times). He also runs on the assumption that his place and Bella's are bug free. If I were a mobster, this would be the first places I'd hide a bug. One might argue that this particular branch of the mob isn't large or particularly important and thus lacks the practical experience bigger players have, and that argument wouldn't be wrong. But it just made Jaime come off a little clumsy sometimes.
I believe this book is the last of a very long series, and I imagine that series fans will love seeing couples from previous books again (mostly towards the end). Fortunately, for those not familiar with the series or who can't remember details, not too much time in spent trying to integrate these characters into this novel. In that regard, it works very well as a standalone.
Overall, I liked this book, and I like this author. I'll definitely pick up more books by her in the future.
I received an ARC of this book for free from the publisher and Netgalley. I'm writing this review voluntarily, and it reflects my honest opinion. Thanks!
This book is loaded with angst. Lots of tension. The book is written with a great amount of detail. I enjoyed reading the book a lot. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced free copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I received a copy from the publisher through NetGalley.
I enjoyed reading this book, the characters are enjoyable and it has an entertaining storyline filled with action and adventure. I found the dog, Jax very endearing and important for the plot. I can't wait to read more from this author.
Great book and series!! It seems like this is the last book in the series and I hate to see it go!! It definitely was a good one!! This book had everything! It had high suspense, intrigue, action packed, mobsters, murder, FBI, K-9 , and some hot romance! The storyline was very interesting and had me glued to my Kindle! I highly recommend reading this book and series! They're well worth reading! I am definitely going to miss these characters, it was an excellent series! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me! Big thank you to Tee O'Fallon for your amazing words! Can't wait for more from you!
Twist on the mafia/undercover cop that hits the mark! The best part, the dogs are part of the key team and it definitely works. A lot of action and threat - with an overly ambitious female "Godmother" that makes quite the villain. Our hero is of course brooding and hot and our heroine is caught in a tough spot with a nice slow burn going on - the story is strong and pulls you in. Jax, our working dog hero, saves the day more than once and even gets a little buddy. Another winner!
