I really wanted to love this book but even at 3/4 the way through I found that the dialogue bogged down the plot and made it very difficult to follow what was going on. The characters are likable and interesting, and the plot has lots of potential to be intriguing, but I just had a very difficult time following along. Dani Pettrey is one of my go tos for a good suspense novel, so I will definitely still be reading her next!

Suspense , intrigue , romance ; what more could you want ?
This book has it all plus bringing God into the picture.
Andi is an art fraud insurance investigator sent to routinely investigate an art theft .however her past soon haunts her as she had left her last job as an fbi analyst in other than good terms. She knows she did nothing wrong but most everyone else knows she’s to blame.
Christian is a security expert or is he ? He’s the one who set up the “fail proof” security system in the art gallery that was robbed . Suspicious ?
Andi and Christian decide to tag team the theft investigation as suddenly there is more than one art gallery robbed and not only is their expertise at stake but their lives and perhaps their hearts .
Christians siblings and him are incredibly close . His brother works for the FBI and knows Andis reputation and has every right to disbelieve Andi but because he loves and trusts his brother he investigates why and how Andis last assignment ended which is something no one still with the FBI wants investigated bringing another layer of intrigue and danger.

I loved the family closeness and believing and trusting each other .

I appreciated that the book was clean as honestly it seems harder and harder to find a good romantic suspense book that isn’t pg13+.

With out ruining the ending - the book has it all and kept my attention and interest . Loved the different plot twists and additional characters that hopefully will have their own book someday !

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Netgalley and publisher . The review is completely voluntary and my own. Thank you!

This is my first full story I've read of Pettrey's and it's clear from her back catalogue and the reviews for this book, she has a strong reader following.

There's much to like about this story:

1. The pace is good which is important in such a novel,
2. The main characters are well developed. I really liked Christian and Andi, Deckard and Harper, Riley and Greyson. Greyson, in particular is a clever attention to this genre.
3. The strong faith emphasis. I enjoy reading prayers that are spoken (verbally and within the mind). I think we should see more of it in Christian fiction because it should be pivotal to the way Christians live.
4. The Christian characters lived out their faith in many respects.
5. The romance was strong, perhaps too much so and enjoyable to read. The Christian/Andi chemistry is tremendous and Pettrey does a great job demonstrating that to us.
6. The suspense kept us on our toes, our dynamic couples were always looking over their shoulders, so to speak and rarely felt safe through the story.

And then there were some areas that I struggled, primarily around the dual plot lines of investigation. There were just a few things that I found a little unbelievable which took away from the authenticity of the story. These were:

1. The antagonists were too innocuous most of the time. They popped up so rarely that when they did it distracted me to take me out of the story. It was also hard knowing who was who and whom was calling the shots. We mostly heard from Cyrus who had one agenda, while Casey had another and Theresa had another.

2. I got confused why a PI (Christian) was leading a national search for a bunch of killers, arsonists and art thieves. Surely the FBI and/or police would be leading it and maybe using a PI to assist? It just didn't really make sense to me. The big final scene has the PI team going into a terribly dangerous situation when this would surely be led by the FBI or SWAT.

3. We keep reading of Ethan acting out vengeance upon Christian but where is Ethan? We discover about 80% of the way through that he's using a pseudonym. But Cyrus seemed to be the one driving the bad guys agenda. It just didn't connect for me.

4. The danger and risk in many situations often lost its sizzle because Christian and Andi kept being distracted by their attraction to each other. I just don't think that would happen in a really tense situation when you might die. I found it distracting and took away from the suspense.

I enjoyed reading the story. It was fun. I liked the characters, especially the 3 siblings: Christian, Deck and Riley. And clearly my thoughts are an exception to most of the other reviewers. It also won't stop me reading another Pettrey story. I'm guessing the next stories in the series will feature Riley and Greyson as leads perhaps. I hope so as they're a fascinating duo and less predictable than the other two couples.

I received an early ebook copy from Bethany House via Net Galley with no expectation of a favourable review.

I’ve been a fan of Dani Pettrey from the first book of hers I read! I’ve always appreciated not only the heart-pounding thrillers she writes, but that her books are clean and include an element of faith and personal beliefs!

This book dives right into the suspense when several art galleries (owned by the same man) are robbed simultaneously, and Christian O’Brady is immediately on scene since he was the man who installed each of the security systems! Christian soon pairs up with Andi Forester and together they face one challenge after another trying to not only solve the case but clear their names!

It becomes very obvious very quickly that someone wants this duo off the case, and together they navigate the dangerous waters of revenge and deception!

Pettrey keeps the tension cranked up, making it impossible to put the book down. With its blend of suspense, intricate plot twists, and well-drawn characters, One Wrong Move is a gripping read that will keep you hooked until the very end.

Let me start by saying this - One Wrong Move is really two stories in one. You get our amazing main characters - Christian and Andi, and by the way they are an AMAZING couple (more on that later). But you also get a little storyline with two side characters (not naming them so there are no spoilers) - and I think/hope that's leading us to book two. I love all four of these people.

Why?

The chemistry is spot on. Like chef's kiss. For both pairs. I mean I was basically giddy when reading them.

But I also love the way Christian sees Andi for who she is, and who she says she is. He doesn't believe what others say about her - right from the beginning. It made me immediately like him, and honestly it just showed his true character (SWOON). I feel like this novel had more romance than suspense, but I was okay with that. The suspense was just enough to keep me guessing, and seeing Christian and Andi working together to solve it made it even better.

Dani Pettrey is an auto read author for me, and once again she proved why. I cannot wait to see what's next in the Jeopardy Falls series!

I received a complimentary copy of this book. I was not required to write a favorable review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I found the start to the Jeopardy Falls series, One Wrong Move, to be another fabulous novel written by Dani Pettrey. It was full of action and adventure that had me engaged from the start until the very end. I am giving it a very well deserved five plus stars.

This was a good story and I liked that we got dual storylines with Harper and Andi but it was very slow and I prefer a faster pace. I did really like the whole cast of char cters and the cases they were solving were interesting. I also liked the romance a lot.

Unfortunately the slow pace and lots of dialogue bogged me down. Usually her books move a little faster for me so this threw me off.

But if you enjoy Christian fiction romance and PI procedural books you might love this one.

I received an advanced copy of this book through NetGalley. This is my honest review.

One Wrong Move by Dani Pettrey – Interesting Storyline, Likeable Characters, But Too Many Characters and Subplots

I enjoy reading mystery and suspense books and was excited to read Dani Pettrey’s newest novel One Wrong Move, the first book in the Jeopardy Falls series.

Christian O’Brady’s received a frantic phone call from his client Tad Gaiman about a break-in and theft at his art gallery in Jeopardy Falls. Christian had installed state of the art security system at all three of Gaiman’s art galleries. When Christian arrived on the scene, he learned that the impenetrable system was compromised by his client and a mystery-women he had met the night before. Christian will be working with Sheriff Brunswick and insurance investigator Andi Forester to find out what happened. When news comes out about break-ins at Tad’s other art galleries, this case just got a lot more complicated.

The premise of this storyline is interesting and many characters were likeable. There was a lot going on in this story. There were a lot of characters, Christian’s brother and sister worked with him, along with a work associate. Christian’s brother Deckard knew of Andi, but under a different name, and what he knew about her was not good. Andi had a lot of baggage and had left her last job with the FBI under a cloud of suspicion. Not a lot of people believed in her innocence, except for friend Harper.

Andi was not the only person with personal baggage. Christian, Deckard, and their sister Riley had a rough start and had battled putting their past and the memories behind them. It seems like everyone’s past was coming back to haunt them.

I had some problems with this book from the start. At the beginning there are two brutal murders that take place and were told from the point of view of the bad guys. It seemed over the top and especially ugly which surprised me in a book from a Christian writer and publisher. It did not make the story better and I thought about putting the book down. There were multiple bad guys and keeping track of them was challenging.

There was a whole lot of past baggage with the main characters, almost everyone of them. They were likeable, but it was a lot of issues to get through. Perhaps the volume of issues took away from the storyline.

The Christian faith was somewhat included, but was not deeply developed. The physical attraction between some of the character could have been toned down some. There were some illogical decisions or risks that were taken that did not make sense. I didn’t quite believe the ending. With two brutal murders and other violence in addition to major high end art theft, it did not seem logical that law enforcement would be on site to get the bad guys.

There were elements that I liked in One Wrong Move, likeable characters, and an interesting storyline. But it was overwhelmed by the number of characters with lots of baggage and details. I like Dani Pettrey’s writing, but this story kind of detracted from itself by the volume of characters and subplots.

I would like to thank Bethany House Publishers and NetGalley for the opportunity to read a complimentary copy of One Wrong Move by Dani Pettrey. I was under no obligation to give a favorable review.

I really enjoy this author so I was super excited about reading this book and it did not disappoint. I really liked this book so much. I could not put it down. I really liked Andi she was unsure of her self due to situations in her life but that did not stop her from seek out what was right and finding out the deadly truth. I really liked her friendship with Harper they seemed more like sisters the friends ready to protect each other at all cost. Christian was a force to be reckon with as well but he also had his siblings to who had his back and he them they were close and would stop at nothing to protect each other. Man oh Man Riley that girl spoke her mind when necessary and did not mix words. Truly this was a story worth reading and I can't wait for more from this group of friends. Grab this book you will not be disappointed

This was such an exciting and romantic read! It's a big book, too, which was such a joy to find and feel like I could sink into for a few hours of reading! There are so many layers to this story- the mysteries, the danger, and the characters - that keep you engaged and intrigued throughout the book. I've always been in awe of authors who can end each chapter with a hook to make you feel like you can't put the book down just yet- and this author did an amazing job of this in this story! I also felt like the author did a wonderful job of balancing the suspense and danger with romance! Christian and Andi team up to solve an art heist that quickly escalates and goes deeper than either one of them can imagine. Along the way, the reader gets to find out more about them as characters, as well as, meet their family and friends, who add more depth and intrigue to this story. I loved getting to know Deckard and Harper, as well as Riley and Greyson, and can't wait for their stories- I'm totally guessing what is coming next but am hopeful their stories are coming next!
I am incredibly thankful to have been able to read an early copy of this book and this is going down as one of my favorite reads from this author!
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

I loved this book! I liked the six main characters and look forward to learning more about them in future books. Christian and Andi's affections moved a little quickly but it wasn't a big drawback for me. I liked the uniqueness of Deck and Greyson. There's a bit of mystery in each of them. Riley and Greyson's interactions made me laugh. It was fun.

The action never quit. There was so much danger. I always like watching a team following the clues to solve a case. This one is so well written. It was a delight to read.

Thank you to Bethany House for providing me with a free e-copy of this book. I'd highly recommend it. All opinions are my own.

3.5 stars

Overall, this was a fun ride of romance, murder, heists and faith!

After a few art gallery robberies upend what many thought were safe places, fingers begin pointing at a few suspects including current security guard and former criminal, Christian O'Brady. He begins the hunt for the perpetrators with a female investigator, Andi Forester, who quickly becomes a love interest as they worked to solve the cases together.

Both Christian and Andi have complicated pasts that add even more dimension to their current case! The closer they get to solving the case, the closer they get to each other. Both the mysteries of their pasts and the mystery of the current heists begins to come to light as the tension builds toward an INTENSE ending!

For the most part, I enjoyed this one. I did find it to be a little cheesy at some points, especially the joke of "Christian being a Christian". I did like the two together as a couple and almost wish more time was spent on the romance side of things then on the heist aspect.

I also think it could have added a lot if we had chapters from different characters' POVs instead of all told in third person. At times, the narration made it hard to connect to the characters since I felt so "on the outside' in a way.

I did love the way that both characters used their faith to help them through the difficult and scary things they were facing and how it brought them closer to each other.

If you're a fan of action packed books told from a Christian perspective, you should definitely pick this one up!

One Wrong Move starts a little slow and took me several chapters to become invested in the story, but once it picked up it was easy to get lost in.

I liked the premise, it was different than other investigative thrillers I’ve read. The angle of art theft and having both a private investigator and an insurance investigator working together was kind of fun.

I liked that there was a little bit of romance and tension in that, and think that future books of this series will as well and i think it’s a nice touch.

The places that I struggled with this book were 1) some of the Faith elements felt a little forced. As a Christian, seeing faith in books is something I enjoy but it needs to feel like a natural extension of the characters and this one fell short of that a bit for me. 2) the end wasn’t as satisfying as I thought it would be. I was expecting more, or some big twist at the end, but it just didn’t happen.

I’ll still be reading the next one to see what happens with the other characters, so I’d recommend giving it a try and see if you like it.

I always look forward to reading Dani Pettrey's books. She does a fantastic job of creating characters that are realistic and fun to read about. I love the way she weaves together faith, romance and suspense into a story that keeps you turning the pages way after bedtime. Her latest book, One Wrong Move, is a great kick off to her Jeopardy Falls series. The story is fast paced and while complete, it definitely opens the door to further books.

So brew up a pitcher of tea, turn off your phone and enjoy Dani's latest adventure.

I was given a copy of One Wrong Move with no expectations. All thoughts are my own.

3.25/5 stars

First in the Jeopardy Falls Christian romance thriller series finds Christian O'Brady, a security specialist and private investigator teaming up with Andi Forester, a former FBI forensic analyst, now an insurance investigator, to solve a string of art heists.

The story involves some violent and relentless villains including a man from Christian's checkered past seeking revenge. There's also another investigation, handled by Christian's brother and Andi's best friend, into why and how Andi was framed for botching murder evidence which ruined her FBI career. Obviously, a lot going on here.

This book was just average for me. While I liked the characters, I did feel that Christian was a bit too protective of Andi at times. And while the suspense was there in spots, there were some slow bits as well. As far as the romance side, I felt it was a bit rushed, and I didn't really get the warm fuzzies between the two. However, I did like how the characters' faith was written about and handled.

My thanks to NetGalley and Bethany House for providing the free early arc of One Wrong Move for review. The opinions are strictly my own.

I have meant to read Dani Pettrey for years, and I'm not sure why I have taken so long. Recently, I heard her interviewed on a podcast and decided to pick up ONE WRONG MOVE. I'm really glad I did! I have now added her to my list of "approved" ;) suspense/thriller authors.

First and foremost, the plot is so important in this genre, and Pettrey knocks it out of the park. I especially admired how there are two cases going on simultaneously ,which must have been a juggling act from the writing perspective but makes for an enjoyable read on the reader side of the equation.

The structure of the novel, with fairly frequent narrator switches, works well to ratchet up the suspense and tension.

The character development is terrific, and the romance gave me all the feels!

Finally, the Christian themes are meaningful, lovingly conveyed, and never preachy or in the way of the narrative.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy; all opinions are completely my own.

Christian O'Brady has a few secrets swirling in his past. He works hard at his job as a private investigator and alarm system specialist to insure a brighter future. When he gets called out to the break-ins at two prestigious art galleries where he installed the alarm systems, he knows something is up.
Andi Forster was an FBI forensic analyst before losing her career and is now an insurance fraud investigator. Assigned to the art thefts she and Christian work together to frantically catch the criminals involved before another theft takes place. They are plunged into something much more sinister taking place.
I received my copy of this book from Bethany House Publishers through NetGalley and this is my opinion of it. There are actually two mysteries going on, which makes it very interesting. I like the characters and the addition of Christian's family members who also work in the investigation agency. Andi's best friend and former FBI colleague, Harper Grace, and Christian's brother Deckard MacLeod have integral parts in the story. The book certainly focuses on faith, justice and family. This first book in the Jeopardy Falls series has opened with a solid start mixing intrigue, danger and romance.

Andi has finally begun to restart her life, after being framed (as she believes) in her former job working for the FBI she has started a new job in a new location and is assigned to work an art theft. Paired with local Christian, Anti finds herself back in a world she thought she moved on from and on top of that she has been thrown into a game with the thieves with her and Christian's lives at risk.

Book 1 in the Jeopardy Falls series did not disappoint, I was invested in the story and characters and am so excited to see what the next book in the series will be bringing us. I've always been a huge Pettrey fan and I am excited to continue to read her series.

I received this book complimentary from the publisher in an exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I enjoyed reading One Wrong Move, and I read it quickly (despite struggling with migraine symptoms) because I was hooked into the story and didn’t want to stop reading.

Andi is an insurance investigator who has the job of investigating an art galley heist in Jeopardy Falls, New Mexico. She previously worked for the FBI as a forensic analyst of crime scene evidence. Andi lost her FBI career when she was unfairly set up to take the fall for botched DNA evidence in a crime scene investigation. Andi knows she’s innocent and didn’t make a mistake, but she can’t prove it.

Christian had a rough upbringing with parents who were neglectful and con-artist criminals. The lack of parental guidance led Christian on his own criminal path to juvenile detention where he met Jesus and started turning his life around. Christian is a security expert who designs security systems, and the Jeopardy Falls art gallery is one of the properties he secured. He knows that the thieves are either experts at cracking sophisticated security systems, or there was insider involvement in the heist.

Andi and Christian’s romance was sweet and included many obstacles to overcome as they challenged each other to deal with past emotional baggage. I loved meeting Christian’s siblings and visiting their New Mexico ranch. I appreciated how Harper, Andi’s best friend from her FBI days, was loyal to Andi and prepared to take risks in seeking justice. I recommend One Wrong Move to romantic suspense readers who like action packed suspense with high stakes mixed with a compelling romance and a relevant faith element in the story.

Many thanks to Bethany House and NetGalley for the advanced reader copy.

Christian O’Brady and his brother and sister were born into a life of parents who were con artists. It is now many years later and Christian is a private investigator and security expert. His client and owner of antique galleries has been robbed of priceless and irreplaceable artefacts. Could it be a coincidence that both galleries were targeted? Seems unlikely. Should the security system creator be suspect in these heists, getting past the security system he built? Christian finds himself working with Miranda Forester, aka Andi, who has proven herself a very talented insurance investigator representing the insurance company of one of the galleries hit. Andi also has a shaded and unresolved past back when she worked for the FBI. She claims the incident was a setup.
The two find themselves into a forced proximity, where an attraction begins to bloom.
This is Pettrey’s first installment in the Jeopardy Falls Series and it starts off with a bang! The mystery is captivating and keeps readers turning pages to find out what happens next.
Christian’s relationship with God was inspiring as was Andi who displayed resilience, honesty, courage, and professionalism.
Great writer and storyteller and I look forward to meeting the cast of characters in the next book.
