I was so excited to dive back into the rich world Munro has created, and see where Ellie's story would take her next, and I wasn't disappointed, as this was just as good as the first installment. Ellie's world has been turned upside down, and now she's on the run. There's plenty of action, tension, and twists to keep you captivated, and it's hard to put down once you start reading. I love the character growth and change that's happened with Ellie so far, and seeing her so willing to fight against her family, and all the wealth and comfort they can afford, is heartwarming. Her being willing to speak out against this new form of slavery - poppets adds a much stronger voice to those fighting against it, even if she's newer to the movement than others. I can't wait to see what lies in store for everyone next!

Ich weiß ehrlich gesagt nicht, wie ich dieses Buch bewerten soll, da ich es aufgrund relativ kurzer Ausleihdauer (ohne Verlängerung) nicht lesen konnte.

"Runaway: Poppet Cycle Book Two" by Donna J.W. Munro is a gripping continuation of the Poppet Cycle series, delving deeper into the complex and dystopian world introduced in the first book.

The narrative resumes with Ellie and Thom's perilous journey up the Mizzourah River, as they navigate the dangerous Wilds controlled by the Grave Hawkers. The stakes are higher, and Ellie's character is further tested as she confronts challenges that the Academy did not prepare her for. Munro skillfully develops Ellie's character, portraying her growth and resilience in the face of adversity.

The addition of new characters, including Sasha and Simon "Red Boots" Eregel, adds layers to the story, introducing conflicts and alliances that enhance the overall tension. The evolving dynamics between Ellie and Thom, as well as the reappearance of characters from the first book, contribute to the novel's richness.

Simultaneously, the narrative shifts to Moze, who has made it to Liberty-Lawrence with crucial information. His involvement in the revolution against DesLoge Com and USNOAM's poppet-based economy introduces readers to the broader consequences of the poppet trade. The exploration of moral dilemmas, especially regarding the treatment of poppets, adds depth to the narrative and encourages readers to reflect on ethical considerations.

The world-building continues to be a standout feature, with Munro expanding the scope of the narrative to include different regions and societies outside the domed cities. The vivid descriptions of the Wilds and the challenges faced by Ellie and Thom contribute to the immersive quality of the storytelling.

The climax of the book is unexpected and adds a layer of suspense that keeps readers engaged. The unresolved questions and the anticipation of Ellie and Moze reuniting create intrigue, leaving readers eager for the next installment in the series.

In "Runaway," Munro successfully maintains the momentum of the Poppet Cycle series, delivering a compelling and thought-provoking narrative. The combination of inventive world-building, well-developed characters, and ethical considerations makes this book a noteworthy addition to the dystopian genre. Fans of the first book will find "Runaway" to be a satisfying continuation, and new readers will be drawn into the intriguing and unique world crafted by Munro.

Revelation is the second book in the Poppet Cycle series. We pick up right where the first book left off as we follow Ellie and Thom making their way to Liberty Lawrence through the controlled Wilds and into Hawker Territory. Meanwhile Moze is already in Liberty Lawrence finding a role in the revolution against DesLoge Com and the poppet trade.

I enjoyed the world building and learning about what was happening outside the domes. We get to see the different people and how they live and the complexities of life in the Wilds as well as intriguing new characters and moral dilemmas our protagonists must face. While the story does lose a bit of steam around the mid point, the climax is genuinely intense and shocking. I did not see it coming and am really interested in where the characters will go from here because I have a feeling it’s going to be wild.

I received an advance review copy, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this book.
