I enjoyed the overall premise of the book, it's got many elements I enjoy reading about but the execution was not to my tastes. It features many paranormal aspects which I typically love. The way the author describes elements in this book was entertaining up until about the 20% mark. Here the main characters, to me, begin to act out of character and this is where the book began to lose me. I did not enjoy the handful of contradictions that built this world up-- a character will say something but then I'm shown something completely contradictory to their claim... over and over. I did enjoy the way the story moved but because I knew how long time had passed between the characters, it made the overall plot less believable.
The premise was interesting and I actually liked story as well as the characters. I also appreciated the author's writing style. However, it was too repetitive for me. It was an endless cycle of Jullian's secrets, lies and/or omissions of important information gets exposed, Thea getting angry, Jullian explaining, Thea understanding and forgiving. I thought that it could have been either a shorter book or the conflict between Thea and Jullian could have happened only once maybe at about 75% mark of the book. I might still read the second book though. I am not closing the doors to this series just yet.
Although this book didn't work for me, it might work for you, just as it did for many others. So, if it intrigues you, read it! Don't let stars deter you from delving into a new world!
I wanted to like this. I really did. I had such high hopes and they just feel dashed. The plot was all over the place and the writing just could have been stronger. I gave the other books in the series a try and it just didn't get better 😭
Filthy Rich Vampire
Book one in the series

**Thank you to Entangled Publishing for and Net Galley for this ARC in exchange for a honest review**
First off please note that this book is a Cliffhanger and there's two more before you get a complete story of Julian Rousseaux and Thea's ending.
There's mating rites as he's the eldest male of the family and Thea is working two jobs, attending college and is a cellist plays at the ball being held by his mother. Oh did I mention he's 900 years old and well Thea's human and that's not allowed by the vampire society rules.
His mother is set against a human being Julian's girlfriend but my favorite character were his childhood friend who takes Thea under her wing. But there are dark and dangerous vampires out there who want to rule the world.
It was a good 3.5 stars book but while I love paranormal but don't like cliffhangers so it was a good book I guess I'd rather it was a one and done story.
I am not your typical vampire book/movie person. I tend to roll my eyes at the classic characteristics of vampires, and feel the same about the repetitive nature of "filthy rich" tropes. So the first few times this book crossed my path I didn't give it any thought at all. Then it became a big topic in the publisher's Facebook group. Fans were raving and I started to feel like I was missing something.
Because of the hype, I decided to request an ARC the next time I was offered. I read it in just a few days, and although I did find myself rolling my eyes a few times, I did enoy the book overall. It is a classic romance book, with cheesy situations and many moments when the reader thinks the character is completely insane but still rooting for them to have their happily ever after. This book does end on a bit of a cliffhanger to entice the reader to continue on to the sequel, so if you're looking for a one-and-done story this isn't it.
I absolutely loved this book! I couldn’t put it down! The storyline is very fast paced and sucks you into the world of vampires. The chemistry between Thea and Julian is 🔥. I have recommended this book to multiple people before even finishing it! I couldn’t purchase the rest of the series fast enough. Great story!
Thank you Entangled Publishing for this ARC.
This is the first book I've read by this author and I absolutely loved it. Her new take on the vampire world was creative and done really well, unlike any other vampire book I've read and I loved that about it.
Julian is the very old, very rich, grumpy vampire and Thea is a young, poor, human. Their worlds collide when Thea is hired as a cellist for a vampire elite party and they are instantly enthralled with each other. Julian is so eager and willing to show Thea how the other half live but unfortunately it isn't that easy for them as humans are not accepted in the vampire world.
I really enjoy the grumpy/sunshine trope and that's exactly what this is. Julian's character is quite dark and broody but very hot whereas Thea's character is full of life, even though she has had a difficult time recently she is upbeat. There are times where she shows bravery but she is also slightly naive. I do find that she accepts the vampire world very easily. The chemistry between the two is there from their first meet and the spice is off the charts.
From beginning to end I just didn't want to put this book down, I've always enjoyed vampire stories so I was quickly sucked in and it didn't disappoint. I highly recommend it.
I’m typically not in to fantasy/supernatural novels, but I am so glad that I gave Filthy Rich Vampire a try as it was filled with romance and drama.
Julian is a vampire who is awoken after a long 40 year rest to participate in the upcoming marriage season. Thea is a college student who is working multiple jobs to help pay her mother’s medical bills and her own way through college. Julian is drawn to Thea from the start, but will the initial connection be able to bridge the gap between their vastly different worlds?
I devoured this novel as it had such solid relationship and character building. As the story progressed I didn’t want to put it down and the ending had me immediately adding the next book to my TBR.
Thank you Entangled Romance for the eARC for review!
I would give everything up for Julian Rousseuax too.
This book edged me the whole time. The spice was on point too. The ending though? Like excuse me, I'm ready for book two.
Thea's struggles are so relatable and honestly I would have packed my bags for sexy vampire Julian too.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own
A perfect book for any fans of dark or supernatural romance. As a contemporary romance fan myself, I don't think this was the right book for me, but I think it definitely has an audience out there!
I went into this book knowing it has all of the tropes that I love. Julian and Thea were such a fun pair to read. It is spicy 🌶️ and has the heat you want, but it isn’t straight up smut. I can’t wait to see how much hotter it will get as the series continues though… Julian has just enough hot and cold to keep you interested, and when he turns up the heat… boy, does he.
Julian comes from money, and Thea grew up working for everything. Their relationship moves fast, but somehow feels natural. It’s a fairytale romance… at least to start. The cliffhanger might leave you wanting, but I’m okay with it.
I really look forward to seeing where Geneva Lee takes us!
*I was able to read an ARC of this novel*
Well, I must say that this book was a wonderful surprise.
I started reading it 3 days ago and I just couldn't stop. I completely fell in love with the story and the characters.
Thea and Julian and perfect together and their dynamics is amazing. Their relationship starts and evolves really fast but that doesn't feel strange or forced at all.
Geneva Lee writes in a way that captures your attention and is addictive.
I can't wait for the second book.
Julian Rousseaux and Thea Melbourne were not couples goals. At least not yet but they are the poster couple for toxic love.
Julian has awakened after a 40 year slumber to a new world much different than the one he remembers. As the eldest son of a powerful Vampire family it is his turn to participate in "The Rites" which is an archaic mating ritual done between vampires and witch's familiars. Julian will do anything to prevent himself from partaking in the Rites he just needs a plan.
Thea is a young human female cellist who is in school, working 2 jobs as well as taking care of her mother's medical bills. Thea is very inexperienced, naíve and a little weak. She is easily bulldozed over and she easily accepts the status quo. Julian and Thea's meeting was by chance during a banquet where Thea was playing her cello. Julian knew after seeing her; he had to have her.
As with most Vampire/Human pairings you usually have a Vampire fighting his instincts and a curious human female with no self preservation. Julian found the answer to his problem. If Thea agreed to act as Julian's girlfriend for 1 years he would payoff all of her debt and mother's medical expenses. The only problem? Thea was a human who should not have been privy to Vampire secrets.
Throughout this book we see Thea making one bad decision after another. With Julian's mother hatred and the Vampire Council's; Thea still decided to leave her life behind to jet set off with Julian.
Julian was hot and cold with Thea which made this story full of tension and angst. Julian's constant rejection towards Thea continuously broke her heart but like the inexperienced woman she was she continued to allow it.
Although this was an enjoyable story with a lot of Vampire Politics and Danger; I would like to see more character growth in both Julian and Thea. They have too many obstacles against them and instead of leaving Thea alone; Julian thrust her right into the middle of chaos. Now with her heart in shambles Thea is left with the painstaking decision to return back home and try to rebuild everything she tossed aside when she made the rash decision to follow Julian around the world. Only to be left heartbroken and alone.
The ANGST!
This book kept me up until midnight because I HAD to finish it and its going to end like THAT?!?!?!?! I immediately ran to Goodreads to see about a second book, and I don't think I've ever downloaded one so fast.
I had to know what was happening, I rooted for Julian and Thea so hard that the ending broke my heart as much as Thea's.
Throughout the book Julian kept doing dumb things that hurt her and she forgave him a little too easy. Like dang sis, make him work for it a little and maybe he will stop being stupid. AND I WOULD BE DANG IF I TOOK ANY OF HIS STUFF WITH ME! Boy, BYE!
The spice was pretty mild too, which surprised me. The tension was great and things heated up a few times but sex never happened.
Was this the most plot driven, character developed book? Not even close.
Am I going to continue to read the series? Yes, I am.
Wow! Loved this! Great balance of romance and vampire politics. I had a hard time putting this down. It definitely has me interested in the next one. I loved Thea and Julian. It was fun reading about San Francisco and Paris. The cultural references were fun, such as bringing in Phantom of the Opera. Fun read!
Wow, this book was an emotional rollercoaster, but I was here for it. I will say that I felt like the pace of the relationship was a bit fast and a little unrealistic when thinking about how a human would logically react to finding out about vampires, but I digress because I did thoroughly enjoy reading this book. The world building and the logic for explaining the vampire lore. Vampires have been written in so many ways that it’s always a feat to try and claim a unique vampire idea, but I feel as though this book was done well and it doesn’t feel like it was done before. And that CLIFFHANGER!!!! I can’t wait to read the next one and the next one and the next one… and so forth and so on. This was a truly unique spin on vampires and I’m excited to see where this story goes. I will say that there are some spicy scenes and they were very well done and I greatly enjoyed them, so just keep that in mind before reading if you don’t enjoy them. But I would highly recommend reading this book if you enjoyed watching the movie (or reading the book) Filthy Rich Asians, since it gives off the same vibe. Happy reading!
Thank God book 2 was already available! I have to know what happens next! This looks like it is going to be an awesome series. I finished book 1 in a day and a half. I can't wait to read the rest. Her writing style and the banter between the characters is wonderful. Love this author and this series!
This was a delicious read! Set in modern times, it has grown-up Twilight vibes and a dash of 50 Shades of Grey feels. The similarities to the typical vampire stories are present with a slight twist where vampires in this world can mate with witches and have children, for example. Julian, the MMC is super rich (I mean, when you've been alive/dead for that long, you've had endless opportunities to amass a fortune) and Thea, the FMC is whisked into his world of luxury and passions. But their relationship journey is not without its complications. He's next in line to have to marry and continue his vampire lineage but humans are off the table for that (pun intended). So there is some fake dating involved in the meantime and the chemistry between them is chef's kiss. Spicy scenes abound!
Told from both character POVs the story flowed well and kept me engaged throughout. I would also love to see more of the side characters and learn their backstories in future installments (Julian's brother Sebastian being top on my list).
I do wish that there was less back and forth in Julian's decision to be with Thea and was a bit disappointed in the cliffhanger ending but that just means I must read the next book in this series!
Overall, I really liked this and recommend if you like vampire books with:
- Forbidden love
- Fake Dating
- He falls first
- Touch her and die
- Virgin FMC
- Open door spice
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the complimentary copy in exchange for my honest review.
Filthy Rich Vampire is book 2 in Mina's Choice series by Geneva Lee.
Ok, so I really enjoyed reading this story. It was fun, engaging and steamy read.
The writing was great. Lee sucked me in almost immediately and kept me flipping the pages.
I really liked the storyline and plot of this story and the character's were interesting.
I'll be keeping my eyes open to see if she writes a third book.
I would like to thank NetGalley and Entangled: Amara for the opportunity to read this ahead of its publication date in return for my honest review.
Filthy Rich Vampire caught my attention at first but I found myself skimming pages just to get to the point. If you want an easy read with a slow burn then this is the book for you. An unexplainable attraction turns into an arrangement that then turns into a bond. The two main characters, Thea and Julian are constantly mad at each other or being intimate. The plot of the book is generic in the way to know exactly what to expect. Filthy Rich Vampire ended on a cliffhanger which naturally intrigued me to continue the series.
