Another great read by Michael Greger. He is factual and research based. I have enjoyed all of his books and information that he shares on health and wellness in easy to comprehend for anyone.
This book is full of a lot of information on fighting the aging process, but this book falls into the trap that a lot of nonfiction does. The author included literally every single piece of information he could find and it gets a bit overwhelming to read. If you have a background in medicine, nutrition, or health, this might be interesting, but I don’t feel that this book is geared toward the average person.
In the realm of health and wellness audiobooks, "How Not to Age" by Michael Greger, M.D., stands out as a comprehensive and engaging guide to navigating the aging process. Dr. Greger, known for his evidence-based approach to nutrition and health, delivers a compelling auditory experience that empowers listeners to make informed choices for a vibrant and healthy life.
The audiobook benefits greatly from Dr. Greger's articulate narration. His passion for the subject matter shines through, making complex scientific concepts accessible to a broad audience. The engaging tone and conversational style create a connection with listeners, transforming what could be dry material into an enjoyable and educational experience.
One of the strengths of "How Not to Age" is its foundation in rigorous scientific research. Dr. Greger distills a wealth of information into practical advice, supported by studies and evidence. The audiobook covers a wide array of topics related to aging, from nutrition and exercise to sleep and mental well-being, providing a holistic approach to healthy aging.
The organization of the content is well thought out, with each chapter addressing a specific aspect of aging and backed by relevant research findings. This structure allows listeners to easily navigate and revisit specific topics of interest. The inclusion of real-life examples and case studies further adds a relatable dimension to the information provided.
Dr. Greger's emphasis on a plant-based diet as a cornerstone of healthy aging is a central theme. While this perspective might align more closely with certain dietary preferences, the audiobook remains inclusive, presenting a range of options and encouraging listeners to find a lifestyle that suits their individual needs and beliefs.
The audiobook also tackles common misconceptions about aging, debunking myths and providing a refreshing perspective on what it means to grow older. Dr. Greger's dedication to empowering listeners with knowledge ensures that "How Not to Age" is not merely a prescriptive guide but an invitation to take an active role in one's well-being.
In summary, "How Not to Age" is a valuable addition to the audiobook library for those seeking evidence-based insights into healthy aging. Dr. Greger's engaging narration, backed by solid research, makes this audiobook an informative and motivating companion for anyone on the journey to age gracefully and healthily.
I listened to the audiobook of this title, read by the author himself. Unfortunately, I did not particularly enjoy the time spent doing so. There were several problems with the author reading which included: his tiring style of reading which was a sort of halting manner of speech and his constantly referring to citations online, many from previous books he has written and videos he created. A lot of what he talks about has already been said but he does bring up some interesting questions and discussions about aging and food. Granted, he is an internationally recognized speaker on nutrition and public health. He provides a website with books, resources, and videos free of charge, so you can tell he has spent a great deal of time on legitimate research. I respect him for his knowledge and desire to help the world age better. He probably just needs someone else to read his books.
Dr. Michael Gregor does what other health advocates/medical professors don't.....he shares reliable sources of research to back up his statements. He not only shares these sources, he tells you how to find them and provides more information for each topic. His books are a health source you can trust!
How Not to Age
Author: Michael Greger

My rating: 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thanks to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for an ARC in return for an honest review.
“Senescent "zombie" cells that spew inflammation and are linked to many age-related diseases may be cleared in part with quercetin-rich foods like onions, apples, and kale.” This book is full of well-researched insight on how nutrition can reduce the rate at which your body is deteriorating. This book is so good, I bought two more books by this author before I even finished this one. Go ahead and preorder and prepare to annotate!

This book was a lot. Meaning a lot of information all on one spot. The author even said that that the information contained had to consolidated into smaller chunks for readability. I listened and learned a lot about the aging process that I will be using in my path to aging. It is a book that can be referenced many times.
As a woman in her 50s, I was looking for ways to age gracefully. I have a family history of Alzheimer's Disease and Cardiovascular Disease, so I am concerned about staying healthy as I age. I was fortunate to be provided with an advanced access to Dr. Michael Greger's newest audiobook, How Not to Age. Dr. Greger narrates this book with his great personality. I enjoyed listening to the wealth of knowledge he shares about ways to live a healthy and long life. The information he shares is research based, and backed by scientific studies. This audiobook is so full of valuable information and much of which can be implemented, with ease, almost immediately. There is a lot to digest in this audiobook, so I took it one topic at a time, and started with the topics that interested me the most. I recommend having a pen in hand to take notes. This was so enjoyable to listen to, I intend to also purchase the book for when I want to access it in hardcopy.
Michael Greger is the narrator for the audio recording of his book How Not to Age. I enjoyed his voice, it is very pleasant to listen to, and he interjected a bit of personality into a very informative book. How Not to Age was jam-packed with information about what to do and not to do in order to maintain and even improve your health as you get chronologically older. For anyone who is looking for information and motivation to improve their health habits, this is an excellent resource.
While I highly recommend reading this book, especially if you are ready for a deep-dive into the research into longevity and healthy aging, I suggest getting a hard copy to refer to while listening to the audio because there is just too much information and too much detail in the 28 hours of listening. There were many, many links to videos and other information that the author has posted online with even more detailed explanations of the concepts covered in the book. I was often frustrated that I did not have pen and paper handy to take a note as I listened!
Thank you to Netgalley and Macmillan Audio for the audio ARC of How Not to Age by Michael Greger. The opinions in this review are my own.
I got 15% of the way into the audiobook for this and I just can’t do it anymore. This version annoying me and it just can’t hold my interest.
This is about how to reduce a persons rate of aging. All of what I’ve listened to has been common sense everyone already knows about these things. Eat less meat and more vegetables you say? Don’t drink or smoke you say? Fascinating.
And the amount of info and explanations that just aren’t here that he’s expecting you to go to his other books for or a video on his website for are just the worst. He would introduce something, say oh no we won’t talk about it here to to x, and then just move on.
The narration of the audiobook was okay. Not terrible but nothing to write home about.
I may pick up a physical copy of this in the future to see if I have a better time with that but as of now this is getting no star rating since I didn’t finish it. (*Will give a 3 since Netgalley is forcing me to do so.)
Liked to listen to this audio and take in Dr Greger’s studies. This will be a good book to have a hard copy on hand. Downloaded his app as well! Thank you NetGalley.
This was....not good.
If you like his previous books you'll probably like this one. For me, I didn't find a lot of new information and it can't hold a candle to other recent "anti-aging" books I've read such as [book:Outlive: The Science and Art of Longevity|61153739]. Atia's book is more enjoyable to read, for me.
I think what bothered me most was how often Gregor references his other work. It is exhausting. In one slim chapter I counted 13 references to his previous books. It's almost as if he needed to mention on of them in every other paragraph.
I also found the text very repetitive and often wished he'd get to the point. This book is already SO LONG it needed some brevity and better pacing.
I fell asleep several times. He DOES present information and research but it is not succinct or engaging. Did I mention I was bored a lot? I'm a total science nerd who reads studies for fun...
Lastly, while Gregor makes a great effort at reading his own books and he isn't flat, his overproduction way of reading is starting to feel a little stale to me. I think I would have preferred a more casual tone.
My other gripe is one I have with all his books. While I don't discount 2 tsp of black cumin per day might be a helpful thing for me to consume it is so reductionist. I also don't believe the centenarians of this world are clocking how much hibiscus tea they drink.
I suppose this book (like many like it) can be summed up simply as this: If you want to live well and age gracefully you have to eat whole plant foods that are minimally processed.
Many of the "superfoods" he suggests are the same ones you've heard 10,000 times like kale and green tea. Yawn.
Bottom line, not worth reading. He does have some informative free videos on his website/YT, though, and you can pick and choose which topics interest you or apply to you.
Thanks netgalley for my ARC/ALC.
Lots of excellent information!! A little overdone though; I felt like the author repeated himself a bit too much in this one. Still really recommended.
Didn't love the narration, though.

This is not my typical read but I wanted to give it a try. This was a pleasant surprise in how in-depth and well researched this book is and really explains to you the benefits of everything from diet to exercise. It works as a wonderful motivator to make healthy changes in your life and gives you access to outside resources to quickly look further into anything you may have more interest in.
The only drawback I found from this read is it is so damn long. This works completely in its favor to provide so much rich content but it also limits its reader base as an average person seeking a healthier lifestyle book probably won't pick up a pick chunky book and dive in the deep end.
