Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for granting me free access to the advanced digital copy of this book.
I love this book, finally a book that gives permission to children to make things with that don't entail paper or clay. Whittling is fun and is safe as long as the instructions are followed and an adult should be present . The first part of the book introduces equipment, wood, and safety. There is a lot of information in this part of the book which is well written and interesting. The next part has some project which are explained and go for simple items to pieces a little more difficult. In fat this book could be used by adults to start a new hobby.. Thanks you NetGalley and the publishers for the DR
Very basic information. I was informed that there were not any projects "cool" enough for the preteen to enjoy trying.
This is an excellent book for children to learn whittling. The book shows a list of tools needed, safety guidelines, and whittling techniques. This book has 18 projects to make. The illustrations and photographs are good for children to look at as guidance to do the projects.
Thank you NetGalley and Fox Chapel Publishing for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
This is technically for kids but would be a good introduction to whittling for anyone. The projects looks fun and a good place to start.
What a great book! This covers everything kids need to know to start whittling and has a great assortment of fun projects. I love that they recommend what type of wood to look for, for each project and expect kids to find branches rather than buy wood pieces. I love the variety of projects and would honestly love to be gifted most of them. Highly recommended!
I read a temporary digital copy of this book for review.
Quick and Easy Whittling for Kids is everything it says on the cover - a book full of easy whittling projects. Ostensibly for kids, this book is also perfect for adult beginners, too, with clear, easy to follow text and illustrae.
The book opens with a list of the tools needed - from a basic whittling knife through axes, drills and one specialised utensil - and safety, followed by a guide to whittling techniques.
The projects range from simpler peg style people through games, animals, tools, and finally the "caged ball", and using techniques from basic whittling to drilling and gluing and weaving. Most importantly, these are projects that I can see being useful or fun to use after they're made.
The instructions were reasonably basic (essentially "whittle the shape"), and I feel the more complicated projects could have been a little more detailed.
Overall, though, a good beginners guide to hand woodcrafts, and I can't wait for my kids to try these projects!
~Many thanks to Netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review ~
Quick & Easy Whittling for Kids : 18 Projects to Make With Twigs & Found Wood. This is an excellent guidebook for safely introducing children to this wholesome craft. Materials, safety and techniques are covered in an easy to understand illustrated format. A selection of 18 step by step projects are included to have a go at. The illustrations and photographs are excellent throughout the book. It would also be a perfect starter book for beginner adults to have a go at. Overall an excellent book.
So happy to be given the opportunity to get this book. I am currently thinking about teaching my 6 year old grandson so this book came at the right time. Very impressed with the concise information, it covered everything I need to know to teach my grandson how to whittle safely. Every question I had was answered. I would say this is a valuable book for anyone who wants to teach a child to whittle.
