The graphics and art style was good but a bit hard to read sometimes with the colour choices but overall it was an okay read

The Mist-Walker is a fantastic graphic novel following a young woman who’s coming of age in a coven of witches without having a traditional kind of magic.

After being raised by a slightly cranky, unconventional witch, our protagonist wants to prove herself to all the mother figures in her life. However, a dangerous mist that has threatened her little village for years is getting worse. And this may be the chance she’s been waiting for to make a difference. This story has an interesting lore surrounding the mist, a little mystery about the witch’s past, and a lot of adventure with a sprinkle of slice of life that brings the characters and their world to life.

I love the gothic style art with a deep purple color palette. It really helps build the darkness that lurks at the edges of this story. I also love the diversity among the witches that live in the village: it’s warm and refreshing. In addition, the character’s personalities are well developed and shine through each little interaction, even those happening as an aside in the panels.

The art was wonderful, but the plot wasn't super intriguing for me. However, I think it might not just be for me, but I definitely see other people enjoying.
Like I said the art was stunning, I really like the style of this graphic and adds a nice atmosphere to the novel.

An intriguing graphic novel that brings witchcraft, ogres, and sisterhood/friendship together to battle a dark mist of death. It is illustrated so beautifully. The graphics feel 'Once upon a time', but in one of the mid to light panels, it shows a post-apocalyptic scene. Hopefully Vol. 2 (or following volumes) will follow up that storyline.

With its charming premise and beautiful art style The Mist-Walker caught my eye and made me hopeful I would love it. Unfortunately, as much as I adored this graphic novel visually, the story lacked depth and nuance for me. The characters felt flat and I had trouble keeping the witches apart since they felt largely undeveloped beyond their role in the plot. I also wish that visually, this story wouldn't have relied on so many pop culture tropes regarding the image of witches as old crones with large noses. The Mist-Walker had an opportunity to present a different take and didn't, something that I found disappointing.

The art in this was stunning. I was definitely grabbed by the cover which is absolutely gorgeous.

I'm usually able to read graphic novels in one sitting, but this took me a few days with a bit of pep-talking in between. I think the premise of The Mist-Walker is intriguing, on the outset it seems a bit like a light-ish fantasy that will focus on a mother/daughter relationship and have strong feminist themes. With a bit more grit, if anything. What we get is a meandering plot that never quite roots itself to one cause. Wouldn't a more cathartic ending have included the women *ahem* working together?

Overall it felt fairly obvious that the author of this book is A MAN who has no real emotional stake in the relationships and experiences he was attempting to depict.

Also, the book overall relied too heavily on pop-culture depictions of witches. For example, a herd of women running naked through a forest, or standing in a circle, or finding a magic pond. There were also some antisemitic stereotypes in the character design of the older witch, like the large nose and witch hat. I mean COME ON.

Three stars because the art really was amazing.

Eighteen years ago, a witch fled from ‘the lost ones’, clutching a baby ogre. The witch clan she returns to accepts that baby as one of their own, and raise her as a witch, naming her Temperance, and keeping to their own patch of the world, and avoiding a mysterious mist that tends to deaden everything it touches. But one day that mist breaks their wards, and so do the creatures that reign within, leading Temperance, and a handful of witches (and a humam!) to go on a quest to confront the mist, and those that live within it.

I really enjoyed this graphic novel, and I loved the art style - it felt alive and warm but also chilling and bleak when needed. I loved the description of how the witches used magic, and the variety and diversity within them.

The story engrossed me, and I was so sad when I came to the end of it, immediately wanting the next instalment so I could get more answers. However, I did feel quite teased over certain aspects of the story, and, while I love that there are things being held back for future instalments, I felt like there should of been a little more world building in this one.

But, overall, a super intriguing graphic novel, perfect for curling up with and reading in a sitting or two. I’m looking forward to reading whatever comes next.

Thank you to the publishers, and Netgalley, for the copy to review!

This was the perfect graphic novel to read in October! I loved the graphic style and colour palette. This graphic novel was very fun and cute but also had some dark pages. You see how much dedication and hard work went into creating this illustrations. (Swipe to get a little spoiler-free look into the book.)
The vibes and atmosphere were creepy and mystical filled with witches, magical creatures and a threatening mist and I can't wait for more volumes to come out!

Thank you to Stephané Fert, Europe Comics and NetGalley for the eARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

This was a beautiful graphic novel. It was diverse. Which I greatly appreciate. I can’t wait to read the second one.

The illustrations for the Graphic Novel are so beautiful. I love the use of shapes and colours to tell the story. The body inclusivity was immaculate and I love that the author found a way to ground the magic of this world.

Too many times I've read books where witches use magic freely and all willy-nilly, but this book has rules and consequences for the use of magic and I LOVE that.

The only drawback about this story was that I believe this story is mainly about Temperance, but we heard more about her grandmother than about Temperance. She felt like a secondary character in her own story. But overall, I enjoyed reading this.

Temperance is an ogre being raised in a witch village. She was found by one of the witches as a baby, who then brought her home to protect her from the mist. The mist is a black fog that engulfs everything in its path; after 18 years, it wants Temperance back. Temperance and the witches she considers family, now how to learn how to defeat the mist or die trying.

The art in this graphic novel is top notch! I really liked the characters, and will be eager to read the next volume when it comes out! How could you not after that huge cliff hanger?!

This wasn't bad, but I didn't like how it ended. It was a bit convoluted and made little sense in sections but I still kinda enjoyed it up until the end. I think I really liked the art style despite the story.

This graphic novel had such a great storyline and the art style was amazing. I love the main idea of the book, which is the story of the ogre and making her way in the world. Also, I loved the body diversity we encounter through the story.

Didn't hold me enough to let me read it quickly. It was cute, and beautiful, but meh. I've no idea what audience I could pitch this to

This was such an awesome graphic novel, I loved the illustrations, but the story was also really fun to read along.

This was an interesting story with really nice art and colouring. I liked the world created here but something stopped it from being a new favourite. Perhaps it was because I didn't feel connected to the characters as much as I would like. Would still recommand though!

Thank you Europe Comics and NetGalley for a copy of The Mist-Walker!

"One day, everything was lost in the mist. No, not those little morning wisps or the thin type that follows rain. The really dense stuff. A pea-souper, a dark fog, thick and black like atomized ink. A mist that engulfs everything. But the mist also left something behind: a mutant, an ogress—or perhaps just a little girl that a grouchy old witch would decide to call Temperance and who would be brought up in a quiet village by a group of contented old women. Then one day, the mist returns. It wants her back. Now it’s time for the witches to dust off their charms and try to remember their old incantations and kung fu techniques as they set out on a great adventure that will determine young Temperance’s destiny."

The art is absolutely gorgeous and whimsical! The story touches on identity, found family, and relationships -- I hope there's a second volume so it can explore the themes better. Overall, it's a great read for those looking for witchy books this fall!

The premise and art style of this book make it a fast and compelling read, but too many threads are started and left dangling by the last page to satisfy most readers. Enjoyable and atmospheric, but we'll see if there is a second volume.
