This graphic novel was so cute!

There are themes of 'othering', 'community', 'celebrating womanhood', 'acceptance', 'finding your identity' and there are chaotic grannies and I LOVE chaotic grannies.

The art style is lovely and the characters have grown on my. I will definitely read more of Stéphane Fert's graphic novels, especially the sequels to this.

I highly recommend this for a witchy read.

Thanks to NetGalley for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Rating: 4/5
I received eARC for my honest opinion.

This was a cute, and very quick graphic novel. I loved the art; it was so beautiful, and I loved all the details in it. It was a perfect read for the spooky season, with all the witches, demons, ogresses, familiars and of course a deadly mist… what else could make it more perfect.

I liked the characters in the story, I didn’t have a hard time connecting or understanding the characters.

I can’t wait to see what Vol.2 will bring us because that cliffhanger will leave you wanting more and right away. I do feel like the ending of this GN was a little rushed, but I can see why it felt like that, with the cliffhanger and all.

I want to thank NetGalley and Europe Comics for the opportunity to review this Graphic Novel.

The fluctuating pacing and anti-semitic character designs made it difficult for me to immerse myself into the story. What stood out to me was having the antagonist be mist. The illustrations on the pages of the scenery were especially beautiful.

Thank you NetGallery and Europe Comics for the advanced reader copy. All opinions are my own.

Let's start with the artistry of this comic, which is undoubtedly the highlight of the entire experience. With breathtaking artwork, it features vibrant colours and a whimsical vibe that bursts from the pages. There's a fantastic range of body types and character designs. The creative team behind this comic has done an exceptional job in bringing the world to life, and it's a feast for the eyes.

However, regarding the narrative, I found myself less engaged. While the story has all the elements of a classic fantasy adventure, I struggled to fully connect with the characters and the unfolding events. The plot did not grab me as much as I had hoped, and the ending left me hanging on a major cliffhanger. I was left with mixed feelings, as it felt like the story lacked a certain depth.

There are meaningful themes explored, though. From the responsible use of power to the importance of community and feminism, the eternal battle between good and evil, the yearning for belonging, and the power of found family.

Despite these shortcomings, the comic offers a range of valuable messages and unique elements, making it a cute and whimsical read that, while not entirely memorable, is certainly worth exploring, especially for its striking visuals.

Thanks NetGalley and Europe Comics for access to this arc!

4.5/5 rounded up!

I really enjoyed this graphic novel. The storyline was engaging and intriguing, the art wad beautiful and so well done, and the characters were funny and relatable! The cliffhanger ending is a frustrating one - what do those things mean? Is she ok?? What's going to happen?! I hope volume 2 will come quickly!

The art first drew me into Mist-Walker. The stark lines and color palette are beautiful. And I will nearly always pick up a fantasy book that depicts a plus-size protagonist.
The story is just as good as the art, depicting friendship, mentorship, romance, and conflict. If there is not a sequel, I will be so sad.

I am a sucker for a good graphic novel, and this one is that! The illustrations were stunning, and the color choices fit well with the story that was being told. The story itself was very intriguing, it always kept me guessing. I am definitely looking forward to more in series!

This is phenomenal! I read it in one sitting and immediately wanted the second volume.

The illustrations are so fun and bring each character to life. You could clearly tell each witches personalities just from the art and the apocalyptic feel mixed with fantasy in each scene is perfect!

I loved all the characters and wanted to join in witchy celebrations. I was so entranced by the mist and desperately want to know more. Though the arch was quick, it felt like the perfect intro into this world and I cannot wait to read more.

My only issue was with the human girl, I couldn’t tell if the one who follows them on the adventure was the same one at the beginning of the story or not. But in the end I didn’t mind because I still enjoyed the story!

Thank you so much NetGallery, the author, and the publishers for giving me this opportunity to read and review this title.

Unfortunately, this one didn't really do it for me. It has an interesting premise - a little ogre child is found by a witch in the mist and the witch takes her in to raise as her own. Years later, the mist returns to reclaim the child it left behind. Can the witches (now old) remember the fighting skills and magic they relied on years before?

This had beautiful art but I just...didn't care what happened. The end was unsatisfying, and I still didn't care. Just not for me I guess.

Thanks so much to Stéphane Fert & Europe Comics for this E-ARC through NetGalley. The Mist-Walker, Volume I: The Breath of Things is available as of September 2023.

Between the unique and refreshing art style, the diversity that flew off of the pages and into these characters, and the fact that I could read it in one sitting, this was an A+ graphic novel for me. I can’t wait for more from this series, I think it made me want to dive back into the genre completely if I’m honest! I went into this book completely blind and with my expectations contained but I was certainly blown away. Please write more!

I loved this story so much. The art is gorgeous, the story is fresh and clever, and the cliffhanger has me clamoring for the next book!

Absolutely gorgeous first of all, this art is just as stunning as I hoped! The colour palette is beautiful and perfect for this time of year.

I loved the plot really interesting and I can't wait to see where the author goes with the story.

I thought the characters and their relationships were so well written and their interactions perfectly captures the dynamics between each person!

Brilliant can't wait to read more!!

Raised by witches her whole life, Temperance, a half-orge, has been looking forward to her coming of age ceremony. Now that it finally has come, she couldn’t be more excited to participate in it. When everything starts to go wrong, Temperance realizes more about the world around her and her own powers.

The Mist-Walker is a hard one for me to rate and gather my thoughts on. Part of it is helped by knowing this isn’t a standalone, but there were other elements that made me a touch uncomfortable and have left me with the ick.

The art is stunning. The panels that simply showed their world with nothing else were magnificent. I loved hose pages and would stare at the panels for a while taking in the before scenery. The muted colors felt perfect for the fantasy world and really had me looking at all the details - details of which I did find some problems.

There were times when this was playing on antisemitic tropes. I’ll admit that I still have a lot to learn and understand about those tropes, but I did notice some here that gave me the ick.

For how short this first volume was, the world and character building wasn’t bad. There were times that it was lacking or felt a little rushed, which I’m hoping is one of the things that becomes fixed as the series continues because after that cliffhanger, this series needs to continue!

I am curious as to where this is going. It left on a cliffhanger as I was really getting into the story, so I do imagine that I’ll look for the next installment to see where this ends up going.

GOOD GOD? IT WAS SO GOOD??

The graphics, colours, art style – magnificient. A pleasure to look at. But the story? The world building? Characters? It made me speechless. Stéphane Fert put a spell on me with this little yet three-dimensioned story of Temperance and her aunt-sisters witches, in a postapocaliptic world full of magic, nature forces and mist, as they cultivate their culture and start an expedition in order to protect it.

I swear, it's so good, it will make you want more. It's so beautiful you will wish to stay in this world. It grasps you into its fist and then gently carry over mountains and valleys, through colorful skies and womb of the Goddess, and you guys need to read it, because I need a volume 2 asap.

I love this so much. It might be one of my favorite graphic novels this year! The artwork is so pretty, look at those colors!! The story is also very interesting and heartwarming also easy to follow. I can't wait to read the next book! If you love found family kind of story, this can be your next read, guys!

Thank you, NetGalley for providing me with a digital advanced copy of this beautiful graphic novel in exchange for an honest review.

This was so cool! It had a very unique art style; each panel was fun to look at. I enjoyed the creative character designs and gorgeous backgrounds and landscapes. I am curious to read more and will be on the lookout for the next volume.

This short graphic novel is really perfect for your spooky season and fall read.
The biggest draw for me is certainly the artstyle. With its gorgeous choice of colours every page is a delight to see and certainly a good inspiration for wannabe artists. The character design and stylization is also amazing.
I do wish that we would have learned more about the characters and the world, but I'm sure we'll learn more in future volumes.
There is a sapphic relationship, which is great, though I wish we could have seen it be better developed. I thought that we didn't get to really see how we got from point A to point B, it happened a bit too fast.
Can't wait to see what happens to our group of adventuring witches in the next volume !
