I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this and also sad that its only volume one because I need to know what happens next. This story follows an ogre girl named Temperance that lives in a witches community with her grandmother. There is this mist that can envelop people and turn them into monsters. Temperance has an attachment to the mist and isn't sure why that is. This volume starts the journey of Temperance figuring out how to stop the mist and save her witch family. This was a fun read for me since I enjoy witch content and I got attached to the characters and their respective journeys. I will definitely be continuing the series and recommend checking it out!

Temperance knows the mist can drive anyone mad and turn them into a monster. Over one hundred years ago, the mist came and destroyed civilization, leaving the humans, the Lost Ones, and the witches, the outsiders, with competing ideas for the future. Her grandmother, one witch among many in their small village, has created a way to keep the mist at bay and they all live a relatively normal happy life. They try to coexist with the mist, while the Lost Ones seem to be fighting it, to no avail. When her grandmother’s spells fail one day, the mist attacks. Temperance runs in after one her aunties, lost in the darkness, and instead finds her destiny. The Mist-Walker follows Temperance and her grandmother, a few of her braver aunties, and a very cute Lost One as they make a far-fetched journey to end the mist - the very journey Temperance’s grandmother set out on generations ago from which she returned, mist still intact, with Temperance - a part ogre child she bid the witches help her hide from the Lost Ones.

I have yet to read a Europe comic I haven’t liked, they seem to have impeccable taste for the works they take on, from a wide range of genres and art styles. This comic was beautiful. Character design was varied and complimented the art style. The story was well fleshed out, with plenty of cinematic cells to really set the mood and just the right amount of gaps in world building to wonder on for the next installment.

I loved this so much!!! EVERYTHING was fantastic from beginning to end, it was fascinating and pulled the reader in from the very beginning. I LOVED it!!!

This was a delight! I loved the artwork of this, as well as the story, characters and humour, so this ticked all of my boxes.

Spent my day off baking bread, cuddling my pets, watering the garden, and reading this graphic novel I just got my hands on. My tired body and mind relished spending time in the forest with ogres and witches.

"The Mist-Walker" is a beautiful and imaginative fantasy graphic novel which throws us into the woods of a dystopian future.

I could really imagine this story as a Pixar film, and while the story feels a bit simple, I like the whimsical characters and can't wait to find out what happens next.

I wish the plot slowed down a little, so I could immerse myself fully in the world, with all the cozy cottages and dark forests. So many graphic novels (and novels) are in such a hurry to get to the "story" and I just want more time, more world building, more character development.

Overall this graphic novel is a joy and highly recommended. I look forward to future chapters!

This was just so sweet and delightful. The art style was beyond gorgeous. I really spent so much time taking in all the details. The characters were all diverse and unique. The dialog was fantastic and never felt forced or out of character. The plot was mysterious and I was fully invested. I even cried twice! Overall I think this was so incredibly well done. It's one I really want to buy just to look at it on my shelves.

This graphic novel was a short and very enjoyable read. Its greatest strength was undoubtedly the art style, which was simple gorgeous; I stopped for a few minutes looking at every single landscape drawn and the way the different characters were drawn was truly delightful.
The overall story was one that I knew I would love, but there were a few details that made me pause and think that it would have needed to be clarified or more developed. For one, I’m still not exactly sure what the nature of the mist really is and if it created the monsters or just harbored them, who/what controls it etc. I’m hoping this will get clearer in the next installment.
The second thing that I found a little disappointing was the relationship between Temperance and the village girl. Although it was really cool to see their relationship, I felt like it came out of nowhere, since they barely talked to each other before the bathing incident, and then didn’t even talk to each other afterward. Their interactions were really too few for me to feel anything more than surprise at the final development.
That being said, one of the things I enjoyed the most was the banter between the witches, which had me cackle like an idiot sometimes.
I will read the next book with great pleasure and can’t wait to see how things will turn out.

Volume 1 of The Mist Walker : The Breath of Things by Stephane Fert is the beginning of a charming series set in a magical and mystical world populated by witches, ogres and other magical creatures. One day the mist appeared and brought with it a baby, an ogress who ends up being raised by a local coven of witches. As the years go by she learns magic and other skills , including martial arts, and lives in relative contentment until the mist comes back, and it seems that it wants her back too. Her found family are not going to give her up easily, they will use every skill in their repertoire, be it magical or kung fu to save her.
This was a sweet and charming read for this season, and I really enjoyed the gentle humour that was scattered throughout. The artwork is deceptively simple but very engaging and I particularly loved the colour palette used throughout, it was gentle, with muted shades, but still totally in keeping with the vibes of the story being told. I loved the characters , both in terms of their visual design and the way their distinct personalities came to life on the page. I look forward to reading more of this series , I really enjoyed the time I spent with these characters.

I genuinely didn't want this book to end! I was so invested I couldn't put it down. Where do I begin?

I absolutely love the art style. The characters and landscapes are constructed from almost geometric, blocked out shapes that lend to really dynamic character designs and expressions. The color scheme was also incredible. The atmosphere came across as a dark fairy tale. The color palette also shifted with the mood of the scene, further adding to the ambiance of the story. The world was so immersive. It had the same feeling of watching an old animated fairytale movie when you're a kid, and you were so engrossed it was like you were really transported there.

You can't help but fall in love with the characters themselves. Even in mysterious, tense moments, you're able to see their demeanor and personality, whether it's through jokes or a kindhearted action. For such a short book, they're well-written and multifaceted, shown with emotions and facing their own struggles.

On top of everything, there were a few plot twists that made me put it down and just think. I can't wait for the next in this series!

Solid 5 stars.

I really loved this graphic novel and read it through in one sitting. It has wonderful illustrations, great world-building, complex, interesting characters and a really compelling storyline. When its sequel(s) come out, I very much look forward to finding out what happens going forward.

What a lovely little book! I adored the colours and the atmosphere, they're incredibly fit for spooky season: there's witches and ogresses with their familiars, squashes and pumpkins, and dangerous mists in a moody forest.

The designs are fantastic, they fit the genre well, though I did find some characters difficult to distinguish.
The cast of characters is another gem, it's diverse and each person has a clear personality, I'm sure they'll stick with me for a while.
The plot is interesting and easy to follow and apart for a little-too-covenient ending, which felt rushed (which I'm sure was set up that way for the next installment) it has a nice pace.

I can't wait to read the second volume!

The artstyle and the colors were my favorite things about this graphic novel. Sadly the story didn't really grip me, but it was still a good read.

Before I get into reviewing said story I have to say that the art in this comic is stunning!! I absolutely love the character designs, the backgrounds, and the coloring!!! Now, the story is a little rushed but I really like the sassy witches and the fact that the setting is an interesting mix of fantasy and post-apocalyptic sci-fi (ish). I’m looking forward to the next volume!

The first thing I want to highlight about this graphic novel are the illustrations, I thought they were incredible, diverse, they show us a great variety of characters and how to draw them. That gave a different touch to the story, I felt that they were the right illustrations for the story, the plot and what the author wants to show us.

This story caught my attention because of the theme and the truth is that I was greatly surprised when I saw the illustrations. I'm not saying that the plot wasn't interesting, not at all, but that sometimes I was fascinated by watching all the details and the author's way of drawing for several minutes.

I liked the comic parts that the book has, it gives a break to the plot and I found the story in general interesting.
I also really liked that at the beginning of each chapter there was a paragraph accompanied by an illustration, it was all very mystical.

I look forward to reading the second volume.

This was such a good read!
I love the way Stéphane Fert paints so I was really looking forward to read this. And I was not dissapointed.

Temperance is a half-ogress raised by witches, she lives in a cute little village surrounded by the Mist a dangerous force that attacks whoever enters it. She and the other witches need to find a solution to fight the Mist.

I found this volume very interesting, I liked the designs and the personality of the characters (Stéphane Fert draws so well, everyone is very expressive). I loved the colors and the brushstrokes of the art. I will definitely read volume two.

A very beautiful art style that brings unique characters to life. Especially the setting seems very interesting and makes you curious for more.

I was immediately drawn to the cover as I scrolled through netgalley and was not at all disappointed (and now I'm craving squash soup).

To begin with, the plates, the choice of colors and the style are magnificent. This is probably one of the most beautiful graphic novels I've ever read.

I'm usually not the best public for graphic novel, however I try to read more of them. The story is a new favorite of mine. I don't know if it has anything to do with the start of autumn and the Halloween season, but I got hooked on the story very quickly. A badass ogress, a dangerous mist and a coven of witches? Are you kidding? This is the story I've been waiting for.

I must say, though, that I was a little confused by the presence of the human (why is she following them? Why doesn't it occur to the witches to find out?) I'm waiting for volume 2 to see if we'll get an answer to that question, or if her presence was merely to set the romance in motion, which could have been done better.

And whoa the cliffhanger!! I was on the edge of my seat, excited to read more, clicked on next page and.... end. It's so frustrating but also means it was really really good. Can't wait for part 2!

A bonus point because it's translated from French, thank you for introducing me to the author of this superb graphic novel I'll be keeping an eye out for his next works.

I was drawn to this graphic novel because of the art style: it's gorgeous, dynamic, and in shades of pastel purple I immediately fell in love with. It also helped that the protagonist and the cover is an orc girl, and the premise of an orc baby being raised by a village of witches immediately drew me in! You can really tell the love and care put into every panel. The writing is funny and engaging: the story isn't too convoluted to follow, even as it raises a lot of questions, and I'm sure more will be explained in the following installations, and could have benefitted from maybe some more time developing certain characters just the slightest bit further? But the story still works, and it left me curious and wanting more. (Also, lesbians!) All in all, a nice graphic novel and a very fun read. (3.75/5)
