I love this series . This one had a lot in it . Delilah and her staff are catering a library fundraiser in one of the big old houses (spooky like). There is so much going on , with two murders and being stranded all night with these people . Delilah, of course, gets involved. This is a must read and I am not going to spoil it. There were so many suspects that I didn't figure it out til the very end. Will Delilah and Calvin get together . Check out the ending.
Such a good cozy mystery that keeps you guessing until the end!🤍
I enjoyed all the characters. It has an intriguing plot and I always love the locked room mystery trope! And the pace was nice and quick!
Even though this is book three in the Deep Dish Mysteries series, you can read this one without reading the first two as I did. And now I’m looking forward to getting the other two!
Oh and it will definitely have you craving pizza!😂
Recommend reading this one! Pub date is December 26th!🤍
Delilah as been asked to cater a Prohibition-themed fundraiser for the library. She has also been challenged to create a pizza with no gluten, dairy, or nightshade ingredients. As her team are getting ready to serve appetizers an older guest dies. The first questions of the night are: Was it an accident? Did her cat cause it? Was it murder?
Along with the mystery of his death, there is a big storm and several of the guests become stranded together in the mansion, possibly along with a murderer.
Just when I decided what would happen next I was proven wrong! I missed the first two books in the series. I plan to go back for those. I have already recommended this book to friends, with the caveat to wait until they've read the first two- only for continuity- this book could be a great stand-alone!
I was given the opportunity to read this by NetGalley, in exchange for an honest review.
This was such a fun cozy mystery! It wasn’t groundbreaking with the plot, but it was fun and I was invested in it the entire time. The characters were fun, the cats were fun, the twists and turns kept me invested!
Delilah and her crew is catering a party for a library fundraiser when a dead body appears. I really liked this concept of being stranded in a mansion with a murderer. The entire book happens within a short period of time so there is no downtime. There is enough obfuscation to keep you guessing until the end.
This was a fast paced locked room cozy that had me hooked from page one! A man is murdered at a fundraiser held at an isolated mansion. A winter storm hits, the lights go out, and Delilah and her catering staff are trapped in the mansion with a killer; but which one of the wealthy guests is it? This book has likeable characters, a great plot, lots of red herrings, some romance, and a cute cat named Butterball. I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading the next one in this engaging series.
I finally finished this book, it took me forever because I had a hard time wanting to read it. I simply did not care for any of the characters. When that happens, you don't feel involved and don't want to read the book. Thanks NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for a chance to read it.
Book 3 of a cozy mystery series. Not necessary to have read previous 2 books. Good story. Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book.
Mindy Quigley’s Public Anchovy #1 is a fun locked room cozy mystery set in a vacation town during the off-season. When Delilah O’Leary accepts a catering job at a fancy library fundraiser held at a remote Geneva Bsy, Wisconsin lakefront mansion, she hopes it will kickstart her catering business and keep her pizza restaurant going through the winter months. But a series of mishaps, from a last minute special request for a free-from just about everything pizza, to a cat stowing away in the mixer box, to an impending snow storm, make her start to sweat.
Nonetheless, carried through by her crew of workers, who are really her best friends, keep her on track to likely success, until a dead body falls into the middle of everything. While Delilah tries to piece together what happened, which may have been the fault of her stowaway cat, Butterball, hunky police detective Calvin Capone, the man Delilah has been throwing herself at with no success, is trying to keep everyone safe and the crime scene as undid turned as possible. But the storm is getting worse, trapping some of the guests and all of the caterers. Then, the lights go out!
This mystery was so fun to read. And the recipes sound delicious. I can’t wait to try them.
An enjoyable cozy mystery series. We get to know the characters a little more. The murders keep us guessing. The food descriptions make me hungry. It helps to like the series as I am slightly familiar with the location. I wonder what happens next and whether the cop/chef relationship will progress. Thanks to the publisher for providing a copy via NetGalley. My review is voluntary.
Delilah O'Leary is impulsive and her mouth frequently tends to operate well ahead of her brain. She loves her cat, Butterball, and her best friend Sonya, the "Son" of Delilah and Son, their pizza/food business. She also has a serious, apparently long-time crush on Detective Calvin Capone (yes, that Capone family) and is frustrated that he seems to be ignoring all the signals she's sent him of her interest. We do find out why, however, this go-round and it's actually rather touching. We also get to spend some time getting to know his mother Lola. She's also on Delilah's side.
Yes, the trope of being stranded in an isolated spot on a dark and stormy night while a killer lurks within is just that, a classic trope. Think Agatha Christie. That said, who doesn't love what's basically a good locked room mystery? While it's been awhile since I've read "And Then There Were None", I don't recall Christie's characters being quite as, well, quirky. Even after a murder, humorous bits keep creeping in, such as even in the midst of discovering a bloody murder weapon there is a great scene. I also don't think Christie's best works featured a cantankerous cat. A stowaway cat, at that. I have to admit, I did somehow see that one coming, maybe because I hoped to see Butterball play a role in the book. He is a character, that's for sure, with his own style, quirks, and ability to find and make trouble. His scene with Pamela's cat is a hoot.
All the characters are interesting, actually, and the interactions between them intriguing. Are those interactions clues to the murder of ol' fashioned Edgar Clemmons? What coded message was he trying to send to Sonya via Delilah? Why is Jarka, one of my favorite characters whose story emerges more in this book, arguing with Count Victor? Why does Biz, who appears briefly, hold a grudge against some of the suspects? What will Calvin's mom, Lola Capone, think of the humorous depiction of Al Capone in Delilah's shop? What less than subtle hint does Delilah send Calvin's way?
Oh, no more teasers. So many suspects and red herrings. I didn't really have it figured out, have to admit, though the ultimate conclusion made sense of the frequently conflicting clues, even if Delilah's hunches as fluctuated about as often as my own did. And, oh, the recipes at the end, all given in the voice of different characters. Such fun and I'm not usually one to read completely through recipes. Thanks #NetGalley and #StMartin'sPress - #StMartin'sCozies for inviting me to the party at Pamela's. Who knew Calvin Capone could play the piano, too.
Welcome back to Geneva Bay the home of Delilah & Son, an upscale pizza restaurant run by Delilah and Sonya. In book 3 of the Deep Dish Mystery series, Delilah and staff are hired to cater an upscale library funraiser. As the weather storms outside not one but two murders occur in the renovated mansion. A closed room mystery complete with their favorite detective Capone ensues. This is one of my favorite cozy mystery series. The characters are so relatable and their stories are ones you experience with them. It's like coming home to family. Well written, good plot that keeps you guessing and fantastic characters - what more could you want?
#PublicAnchovy#1 Thanks to #NetGalley and #MacMillanBooks for the eARC
Thank you NetGalley!!
Unfortunately, this is the third book in the series. I haven’t read the first two, but that’s on me I should of been more careful lol. But I really liked this book, it wasn’t too hard to follow along with the already developed storylines. I do think it took to long to get to the murder, but I liked the twist of who did it. I also loved that it had recipes in the back, it was a nice surprise. I’m interested in starting the series from the beginning.
This is #3 in the Deep Dish Mysteries series, and I was thrilled to be selected to read and review this novel, as I had loved the first two in this series.
This is a "stuck in a big house with strangers during a bad storm" premise, and although it's a well-used trope, I still found it quite enjoyable. The cast of regular characters is wonderful, and Delilah's cat, Butterball, has a surprisingly important role, which is delightful.
With many twists, fabulous sounding recipes, and the slow burn romance simmering between Delilah and Detective Capone, there is a lot of good reading here for cozy mystery fans!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for the opportunity to read and review this novel.
This story reminds me of a game of clue. Who did it, with what, and in what room? I read this story mainly because I love that area. I've visited it on occasion and could relate to the description. It's a fun and twisty who done it. The characters are very likable, even the cat! Delilah owns a pizzeria and is hired by the head librarian for a Friends of the Geneva Bay Library fundraising gala, at her mansion by the lake. What can go wrong does go wrong, including a stowaway cat, bad weather closing the road out, Delilah's love interest being there, and also a killer. Who is it? Why and how? I enjoyed this fast-paced, fun, and I had some surprises and figured out others. I enjoyed the thoughtful relationships aspect and romantic thread. Yes, read it.
I requested to read and review this for free from St. Martin Publishing Company. This is another fantastic read by Mindy Quigley. This book has drama, mystery, romance. Delilah and Son gang are back at with a mystery and how they get themselves in trouble. Th true test will be in they can all survive this and come out alive. Delilah and the gang run into Capone. Delilah has mixed feeling for the man that hasn't given her the time of day. But with death hitting them both very close to home. Will that help their potential relationship or fizzle them out. How can you tell when someone is who they say they are or not? Books or old movies surround this mystery. This book can be read anywhere and by anyone.
This was a nicely done whodunit with all the cozy elements that I love, the main protagonist, her BFF, a wickedly solid plot, a pool of suspects, and a potential love interest and the determination to solve a puzzling case. The author did a great job in presenting this well-defined mystery that kept me in the game and when I thought I had handle on the person responsible, the author did a “bait and switch” which I then became more enthralled in what was happening, especially with the surprise stowaway playing a pivotal role in the apprehension of the killer. The was a delightfully engaging tale with visually descriptive narrative that I could not put down. The outcome was very satisfying and I can’t wait for what happens next with Delilah, Son, Capone, and the rest of their friends.
A great cast of characters. Delilah is a funny and clever protagonist. I loved her crew, especially her best friend, Sonya. The plot was an intriguing mystery that had a closed room mystery feel about it. A great side note was the budding romance between Delilah and Detective Capone. The author’s writing was full and robust, and she kept the story moving at a quick pace.
Bonus, the author includes several recipes at the back of the book. All mentioned, in detail, in the story.
Even tho this was book three in the series, you can read this first and not feel lost. It was my first book by the author, and I didn’t have a hard time following the story at all.
My review is voluntary and all comments and opinions are my own.
Deliah and friends are back in a fun winter theme cozy that is reminscent of Agatha Christie and great fun to read. Thank you to the publisher, the author and Net Galley for the opportunity. My review opinions are my own. This is the third release in this fun foodie theme series.
This is a perfect winter theme cozy with a fund raiser for the library in a mansion. Deliah is catering hoping to save her declining business of her pizza restuarant through the bad weather. Her favorite police detective is in charge of music for the event and she is hoping to connect with him as her romantic interest. Unknow to Deliah her cat Butterball is a stow away for the evening and brings humor and fun with his antics. He does create chaos at the event with the hostess cat that has this reader laughing out loud.
The night takes a turn with everyone trapped due to weather and a murder that has everyone asking "whodoneit".? With suspicion abounds and clues along with many red herrings Deliah is hoping to solve this murder and endear herself to her crush as well as save her business. A fun read with great returning characters and the wonderful cat that adds to the fun. Receipes included are scrumptious and fun additions to your kitchen. I look forward to the next in series. This is a winning cozy series with humor, fun, great sleuthing and wonderful supporting characters.
I was extremely excited to receive the ARC of this book, as I have already read and thoroughly enjoyed the previous two books in the series. One of the best things about this series is that each book can be read as a standalone. One of the most prominent characters in the book is Butterball, a cat, and I was thrilled to see how he featured in the story.
The plot follows the classic mystery trope of a group of people being trapped in a mansion with a killer on the loose. However, the author puts a fresh spin on the story by setting it at a roaring 20s-themed party, which adds to the fun. Butterball's antics add a touch of whimsy to the story.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the book and eagerly anticipate the next book in the series.
I would like to express my gratitude to NetGalley for providing me with the ARC.
