Curtis de Lohr is the oldest son and heir of Christopher de Lohr. A strong warrior like his father, he participates in a month-long siege of the Welsh Marchers castle, Brython. It ends when the de Lohr army is finally able to breach the walls. Surprising the de Lohrs is the warrior woman who held them off. Elle ferch Gwenwynwyn is Welsh to the core and is determined not to surrender her castle, but no matter her convictions, the battle is over, or is it? Curtis de Lohr is horrified that he must marry the hellion who attacked him at the wall. This can't be good, but Curtis uses kindness and understanding to a young woman who has only known hate. You will always find action, adventure and a powerful love story in a Le Veque novel.
Mild descriptive sex.
I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this book from NetGalley.
For me, this was a little bit too much war but still a good love story. Curtis and Elle were interesting counterparts with a unique story.
When I read a de Lore book, I instantly compare it to Rise of the Defender. The book either exceeds, meets, or fails to meet expectations, Lion of War absolutely exceeds expectations.
Curtis and Elle are fire and ice, passion and hate, love and war, they are the perfect couple who are totally imperfect. These two are forced to marry but the passion and hate begins way before that. I'm not going to summarize the plot but I'll tell you this book is worth the price and the time. It's fabulously written with detailed plot, unique characters, and am unforgettable love story that leaves a permanent impression in your mind.
Kathryn le Veque is an amazingly talented author and I highly recommend not only Lion of War but all of her other books!
I just reviewed Lion of War by Kathryn Le Veque. #LionofWar #NetGalley
Such a great book! I love when the male main character in a historical romance is the vulnerable one. Curtis is always trying to make Elle feel like a person, like she exists, not like she is a kind of furniture on his way. I really like that Elle knows how to fight. She is not a damsel in distress... she raised herself... even if all the odds were against her. They complement each other. I love they way you write. I fell in love with your characters really fast (and hated with all my heart the bad ones). I will love to read all this saga.
Loved Curtis and Elle's story! Ms Le Veque writes such strong female characters. Elle grew up in great adversity, losing a battle for her home, being forced to marry, but manages to turn it around to discover a great love for her husband, self and friends and family whom she shares her castle with. Curtis is loyal and loving and willing to do anything for his bride. A great read!
Lion of War. What was I reading? My fellow readers I just finished reading something that was epic! Something- so-epic it nearly had me tearing up. This book contains a story that is just simply powerful for the mind, the soul and the most important part of the body, the heart. The storyline is unbelievably captivating. Here I thought the book would focused on battles, pillaging and the blossoming romance. Oh no my fellas readers. Lion of War is not that kind of book. For me the storyline tells you the best parts of what transpires behind the battlefield or the war room you might say.
Christopher wheels a mighty arm with is steely tongue, but it’s his sons and daughters who put those actions and or plans into place. Lion of War tells the story of Curtis de Lohr, Christopher’s oldest son and Enid/Eira Avrielle ferch Gwenwynwyn/of Powys the Princess of Welsh descendants. These two characters alone gives you a love story that will have you feeling good. It was hard for me to choose a favorite character considering that there are a number of characters in the book. With that be said, I can only say that all the characters were my favorite, except for maybe one or two of them, but hey you know. They all can’t be perfect. As for myself? How I felt reading it? Come on you guys. You already know. I loved it!
I was so dedicated to finishing this book that I stayed up late into the morning reading it to the last page. And let me say something. Asa I got your back. I was right there with you man slicing and dicing. Having a good ole time.
You the man! That’s all I’ve got say. And a side note. I am (double under score) scared-of-you. I was very impressed at how the story was written.
As I said before, the book focuses on telling the story behind the battlefield and the sitting at the War table. These are the moments that I found most entertaining and exciting. The writer did a wonderful job of keeping the story moving with some interesting and jaw dropping twist and turns. I was pleased that the writer didn’t hold back on some moments that would bring any man or woman to the point of where they see blood. Often times a person could be on the verge of committing murder with moments like those.
The level headed conversations from the matriarchs of the de Lohrs clan emphasizes to their people and their children on being that level headed leader and honest loving human being. By far I think Christopher and Dustin are the most coolest parents that I have read about so far. Yes the book was awesome. Yes it’s extremely good. Yes I can not wait to see what the de Lohrs and other clan members will bring to the new world of the Welsh and English descendants.
Oh I almost forgot the Blue Stones/ the Blue Rocks. The telling of their story of how they came about was terrific. The writer touched on information about the meaning and the value of them, but also about how important that they are to the Welsh ancestors and future descendants. My fellow readers I give this book Lion of War, two snaps and a, meanwhile under Larue’s bed sits the Assassin. She lies and waits to strike as Larue cries herself into a comfy sleep.
Until next time my fellow readers. Read on! I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. #LionofWar #sonsofdeLohr #KathrynLeVeque #Netgally #Goodreads #Bookbub
What an amazing medieval story of the de Lohr family with Christopher's son, Curtis as our Hero. Curtis is Christopher's pride and joy as well as his heir. Curtis is honorable, brave, a gifted knight, and extremely knowledgeable about war and battle tactics. We see the de Lohr army take back English control of Brython Castle on the Welsh border.
Elle is Welsh and taught by her grandmother to hate all things English. She does not hesitate to fight for her beliefs. Growing up Elle never had any women to speak to experience kindness and camaraderie in her life before meeting the de Lohr women and the strong compassionate wives of the powerful lords invited to Curtis and Elle's wedding party.
It was great to see all the familiar powerful lords, spies, assassins, agents and legends that were invited to the wedding party. Definitely a Who's Who of the time.
Kathryn outdid herself this time!
Could Enemies Find Love Despite the Odds?
War divided them, but love united them. However, it was not an easy road. She fought him with all she had, and when his father won, Curtis got her and her castle. She might not have had much of a choice, but could love create the peace they so desperately needed? Curtis and Elle had unexpected enemies, and danger would come to their doorstep. Would their foes catch them unaware? I enjoyed this medieval romance and would recommend it to the lovers of the genre. The story kept me turning the pages until the very end.
Stunning enemies-to-lovers!
Only an amazing author like KLV could craft a perfect enemies-to-lovers romance with such genuine conflict and a "meet-cute" that was an actual attempted murder (while both parties were literally at war with each other). Curtis is leading the charge on a Welsh castle that has held off his father's vast army for an entire month, only to find himself thrown from the wall by a small but mighty warrior who is more than willing to kill any and all Englishmen she can. Starting with Curtis. Unfortunately for Elle, she lacks the size to conquer Curt, and finds herself his prisoner instead.
The first half of this book chronicles the next forty-eight hours as negotiations and skirmishes are ironed out in order to find a path to peace for the Welsh citizens under the rule of the English conqueror who is Curt's father, also known as Christopher de Lohr, the legendary Earl of Hereford and Worcester. Doesn't take a minute to realize that King Henry III wants a strategic marriage to bind the Welsh in an alliance, but it takes a very long time for Elle to decide whether or not that's a fate worse than death. No spoilers - but you know what she decides.
I adored Elle's spirit, even in defeat, and I loved how her heart gradually opened up to accept everything that she deserved. Curtis is a true man of honor, a credit to his family line, and his patient interactions with Elle were truly wondrous to behold. These two have a LOT to overcome, and I was addicted to their story all the way through.
The rest of the book takes us through the reconstruction time after the siege, where loyalties are tested and the characters examine just what is worth sacrificing for, as well as what is worth sacrificing. There's also a dark force at work behind the scenes, leading to a devastating conclusion that tests everything they've achieved thus far, before leading us to a splendid HEA that cements yet another delightful couple in the KLV world history.
I don't have the words to express how much I love each foray into this author's world-building and romances. Every detail is exquisite, each character is memorable, each battle - physical and emotional - feels like it's happening right in front of you. It's the best kind of immersive reading experience and I highly recommend this book along with everything else by this author. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
Lion of War by Kathryn Le Veque is a captivating medieval romance that delves into the lives of Curtis and Elle, sworn enemies who are unexpectedly thrust into a marriage of convenience following a fierce battle. The story masterfully explores the development of their complex relationship, moving from mutual disdain to passionate love, while avoiding instant attraction. The plot is enriched by intricate politics, drama, and family dynamics, offering a well-rounded historical context. The book balances passion and emotional depth without explicit bedroom scenes, keeping the focus on the narrative. Filled with tension, drama, and unexpected twists, Lion of War is a gripping and suspenseful historical romance that immerses readers in a vividly detailed medieval world.
Immersed in the de Lohr legacy from the beginning.
Curtis helps to lead the battle to capture a Welsh castle and finds himself a Welsh Princess named Elle.
In order to hold the castle and for political reasons to learn about each others ways, they are married.
A tumultuous relationship with plenty of fire.
Great character development also of supporting family and friends.
Easy to become obsessed with reading about this world.
Curtis de Lohr is with his father's warriors laying siege to a rebellious Welsh castle. The young King of England doesn't want this problem to last any longer and has sent instructions to end it .
Elle is Welsh through to the bone and has been taught to hate everything English. She will fight to the death for her beliefs.
This medieval romance is adventure and excitement all the way through. A heroine could not be braver than ours . Our hero is his father's shining star. He is everything honourable, brave and loving. In this book you will meet a lot of old friends from previous stories. Each book in any of our author's work can be read on it's own but be warned once you've read one you will need to read many more, no matter when on her timeline you land. Her books are addictive.
I loved every page.
Suspense and drama make this an interesting and enjoyable read. Whilst passion reigns, there are no overt bedroom scenes, nor are there any long passages filled with inner dialogue, which is always a plus in my view. The Earl of Hereford is used to winning wars and commanding castles in the name of the King, and it was therefore a surprise to him and his commanders to discover a Welsh castle with the means to withstand their siege for longer than expected. Curtis is also shocked to find that the diminutive warrior barrelling into him, taking him back over the wall and down into the moat is a fighting, spitting female who is furious at being held captive by him, and he certainly did not expect that she was the one leading her army. Forced into a marriage that neither wants may bring about the peace that the Earl of Hereford is aiming for, but it is not without negotiation, compromise, and clever maneuvering. Unfortunately, there are those who are less than pleased with the outcome, and just when it would seem that Hereford has achieved his objectives, the enemy strikes where it hurts most. I enjoyed this well-written novel immensely, a copy of which I received as a gift through Dragonblade Publishing and NetGalley and this is my honest and voluntary review.
Lion of War
by Kathryn Le Veque
The first meeting is amusing as well as a little awkward, and I giggled when he takes away her power by walking away with her on his shoulders, he would never be hurt by her actions through his armoury.
There are some brilliant cameos from other de Lohr family, I think just about everyone makes an appearance at some point.
Also it was so lovely to see others too, Sherry and Christin , Asa , The houses of de Wolfe, de Lara, de Avignon, de Royans, and probably lots I have forgotten.
It makes for a stunning spectacle.
"Lion of War" by Kathryn Le Veque is a compelling and deeply romantic medieval tale filled with fierce characters and clashing swords!
In this enchanting story, we follow the journey of two sworn enemies, Curtis and Elle, whose lives become entangled unexpectedly. After Curtis emerges victorious in a fierce battle against Elle, they are forced into a marriage they never desired in exchange for peace. I chuckled at their rather unconventional meeting when Elle knocks Curtis off the castle wall during his invasion attempt and almost drowns them both. Despite Curtis' persistent efforts to show kindness and patience towards her, Elle remains stubborn and unwavering in her contempt for him.
As the story progresses, we witness the tumultuous evolution of their relationship. They both have to overcome their own beliefs and differences before they can come to a place of mutual acceptance. The author does an exceptional job of building their romance, avoiding any insta-lust, and making their journey feel realistic.
One of the standout moments in the book is when Curtis finally confronts Elle and calls her out for her harsh behavior towards him. This scene marks a turning point in their journey, delivering both giddy angst and a deeply romantic moment as they come together in acceptance.
In addition to their relationship, the story is also filled with intricate politics, drama, and family dynamics. The multiple points of view and cameos of other characters from Le Veque's stories add depth and richness to the plot.
Kathryn Le Veque's "Lion of War" is an absolute gem!!
Tropes: forced marriage, enemies to lovers, found family, hurt/comfort, first-time heroine
Thank you, NetGalley and Dragonblade Publishing, for providing an advanced copy of this book; all thoughts and opinions are my own.
Wow, what a book! Every book I have read of Kathryn Le Veque is awesome and Lion of War is no exception. Will two strong and determined opponents with clashing wills have strength to realize winning at love is not a defeat in ones beliefs? With characters from beloved novels who join Curtis, from House of de Lohr try to take Lady Gwynwynwyn castle and keep it. After a month long battle the castle falls and Gwynwynwyn and Curtis are ordered from the King to marry. Kathryn Le Veque books are well-written, filled it with flawed characters who manage to grow and yet retain their personalities which captivates you from the beginning until the very end, sizzling passion, action and adventure, with great dialogue. With setting descriptions and action sequences that are wonderfully vivid that brings the story to life and as the uncertainties escalates the suspense builds and danger abound which brings this read together perfectly.
I received a free ARC from NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.
Outstanding, amazing, awesome, fantastic! The story of Curtis and Elle is dynamic in every way possible. Here come two people so different and yet identical to each other that it's an amazing combination. Both are strong, determined, have different agendas, loyalties and opinions. And when they come together only magic happens in the way that is comsmic. Ms. Le Veque is the master of drama, intrege, subterfuge and history. The reward for the readers is that you get so immersed in the story that you know you have lived in that time, place and situation. As the first son of de Lohr I guarantee you will love each moment of this story.
Lion of War by Kathryn LeVeque is about Curtis De Lohr, son of the great Christopher de Lohr. There has been a standoff, and Christopher and his army have won and retaken Brython Castle in the Welsh Marches. The king has declared that the win is to be reinforced by a marriage between the son of de Lohr and the daughter of the house. De Lohr has no information about a daughter, only two sons, one of which is little more than a rumor: the Wraith. Well, Curtis ran into the daughter, Elle, or rather she ran into him as she flew into him in attack mode as he was breaching the castle wall. He took her immediately to his father and went about his duties. Christopher looked at the wild young woman and contemplated that she was to be his son’s wife.
Curtis de Lohr is like all of Le Veque’s other heroes: strong, handsome, and virtuous. That is what making reading her books so much fun. Generally she takes more license with the heroine as she has in this book. Elle behaves like a banshee: she is wild, crude, and opinionated. The de Lohrs have been nothing but kind to her and she has returned that kindness with rudeness and hate, up to and including the way was she treated Curtis at her wedding. He was still kind to her when he told her to leave, he had not interested in being married to someone who didn’t want him. And he left, fully expecting her to be gone the next day when he returned. The trope is familiar: enemies to lovers, but it happens in a new way and it happens quickly. Whenever I get a new Le Veque novel, I drop everything and read it immediately. It always acts like a balm to know that honorable men exist in this most brutal of times.
I was invited to read a free e-ARC of Lion of War by Dragonblade, through Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are mine. #Netgalley #Dragonblade #KathrynLeVeque #LionOfWar

💋💋
Curtis is one beautifully put together character and Elle is perfect for him.
I don’t think I can fault this book at all.
These two are great, they play off each other so well, in all the scenes.

Kathryn honestly goes all out in this one, don’t pass it by.
I received an Arc copy of this book and chose to post this review
The Wraith, The Warrior, and Destiny:
One huge dramatic emotional story that is filled with love, hate, forgiveness, compromise, revenge, honey bread, trust, family and many endearing happy and sad moments that will melt your heart or bring a tear to your eyes.
I loved Curtis with his strength, his honesty, his determination yet his vulnerable personality. My favorite emotions he displayed was the angry tirades at Elle his betrothed and later towards his father which was written in a way I could feel the anger flying off the pages. I loved every minute of it.
Elle's character was a dynamic determined feisty warrior woman on a mission. What she went through as a child was unbelievable and heartbreaking. A strong lady that did a lot of growing up throughout this story.
My only con was her attitude where she stayed on the pity pot too long. That got a little tiring for me.
An endearing epilogue that carried them all into a happy future.
This is thoroughly a wonderful all-encompassing love story with so many situations it never has a dull moment.
Cover gives us a good insight at Curtis's character.
