Raven Flight by Juliet Marillier is a beautifully written sequel that deepens the adventure and magic of Shadowfell. Neryn’s journey to train her powers and bring hope to Alban is inspiring, especially as she faces intense trials alongside her strong-willed companion, Tali. The Scottish-inspired landscapes and rich lore add depth to this magical world, and Marillier’s writing is as enchanting as ever. The bond between Neryn and Tali brings emotional weight, making it a must-read for fans of well-crafted fantasy with courageous characters and lush storytelling.
I reviewed this book a long time ago. I was looking through my Netgalley shelf and realized I never submitted the review.
This is the second book after Shadowfell. I loved how Juliet Marillier picked up right where she left off after the first and continued with a wonderful story.
Neryn can see and summon the "good folk". Because of her gift she has to hide from the King. He is trying to control or get rid of anyone who has a bit of magic in them. Neryn is learning in this book how to call the good folk to overthrow the King. She has a lot to learn and little time to do it.
This book deals with the journey Neryn must take to seek out those who will teach her. The book is slow paced, but interesting. This is not a book that can be read in a few days.
I missed Flint in this book. The focus was on Neryn and the things she was learning. There were a few moments where Flint appeared, but they were too few and too far in my opinion.
I look forward to reading the third and final book that will be released in a few days. I look forward to finding out if Neryn and Flint will finally have time to be together. I am hoping that they can find peace and happiness.
Reviewing old arcs, have tried to read but couldn't get into. Won't be trying again so no formal review will be posted on social media.
First, the cover of this book is lovely. Unfortunately, I hastily requested "Raven Flight" without knowing it was the second book in a series. Now being a Netgalley reviewer for over four years I am thorough when requesting a book to not make the same mistake.
Fantastic, I loved it so much. Juliet Marillier is probably my favorite author and I have never been disappointed by her novels. I love the slow burn romance and the strength and depth in her characters. The journey is a long one for these two, but I have loved every moment they have shared.
