It was a lovely book with beautiful pictures. I enjoyed the vivid colours and themes inspired by Persia. The pictures deserve 5 stars. The story was warm and engaging, maybe a little too simplistic even for children. There were flowers, music, poetry, birds, but also jealousy, betrayal and loss. All in all, it was a nice introduction for children to the world of Rumi the poet.

I received “Rumi" from the publisher via NetGalley. I would like to thank the author and the publisher for providing me with the advance reader copy of the book.

Rumi-Poet of Joy and Love by Rashin Kheiriyeh is a beautifully illustrated book. The bright bold colors of the pictures made this book a joy. This will have a very specific audience that have read Rumi, but it could expand his reach.

I was absolutely mesmerized by the cover of this book. I downloaded it and was not disappointed. The biography is so well written in the language that children will understand and there are no words to adequately describe the peace and joy found within the illustrations. This book is a must purchase for your children to enjoy multiple times through their lives.

A really good biography! It doesn't feel "heavy" and is perfect for children to read. The illustration is beautiful too.

750 years ago the world lost a great poet and Sufi mystic. His earlier works were stories and his later works told of the importance of love, kindness, and friendship. His words still have a great worldwide audience and meaning today. This story of his life and poetry are incredibly illustrated by Rashin Kheiriyeh and are fun, detailed, brilliantly colored, and delightful.
Well suited for reading WITH someone of any age including ESL, and great for gifting to anyone, but especially to a school or your local public library!
I requested and received a free temporary e-book on Adobe Digital Editions from NorthSouth Books via NetGalley. Thank you!

Rumi is a famous Persian poet, but not many people know much of his life or history. The beautiful illustrations and simplified story of his life make Rumi accessible to all ages. I loved the bright vibrant colors, the lessons about finding strength within oneself, and the description of the Sama ceremony. I think this would be a great addition to any library.

Rumi is probably my favorite poet so I was excited to see this children’s book introducing him to them. The illustrations were gorgeous and kept my nieces attention. However there wasn’t any of his poems, just a story about his life. I ended up pulling out by “Big Red Book” of Rumi poems and reading some lines of them.

This spellbinding picture book biography for children (4-8 years) introduces them to one of the greatest poets and mystics. Rumi found inspiration in love and spread this message through his writing that love is in us and everywhere.

Born on September 30, 1207 in Iran, Rumi enjoyed nature from childhood, especially birds. As he grew older, his favorite thing became reading. He moved to Turkey with his family, where he became a well-known scholar like his father and grand-father. Despite his success, something felt missing in his life. He found the missing part in writing about friendship. His poetic masterpiece, “The Masnavi,” was loved by many, especially children. Rumi found God in love, embracing us all.

This book is a masterful celebration of the great scholar, 750 years in 2023. It is filled with beautiful, colorful, and eye-catching illustrations with strong colors and ornamental details of the Persian Empire. And above all, it carries a wonderful message of love and friendship.

It is written with clear voice and appreciation for the great poet and mystic who found a fulfilling path for himself and encouraged others through his writing.

I really enjoyed this book! It was fun to learn about Rumi and his foundation of reading. I tell my students all the time that reading is the foundation to a lot of things. Rumi understood that and let it take him places. It’s such a fun book to look at the pictures too! The pictures are vibrant and descriptive.

’On September 30, 1207—that is a long time ago—a child was born on a crisp and colorful autumn day in Iran.
They called him Rumi.
Everyone welcomed little Rumi into the world.

This is a beautifully illustrated story of the life of Rumi, from his early childhood, and how he loved to play and dance, follow the butterflies, loved the scent of roses, as well as the songs of birds.

As a child, he had so many questions about the world, which his father would patiently answer, and teach him what he needed to learn.

’One day, his father said to Rumi, “Learn generosity from the sun, it lights the world every day and asks for nothing in return.”

He loved to read books, and as he grew older, was excited to meet the esteemed poet Attar who gifts him with one of his poems, ’The Conference of the Birds’, which excited Rumi as he loved birds.

The illustrations in this surpass any other children’s illustrated books that I’ve read in terms of being eye-catching, and the story was lovely, both in what it shared as well as the gorgeous illustrations.

A lovely story of the beginnings of Rumi’s life, and how his life would change over time, exploring the meaning of friendship, listening, as well as jealousy.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This picture book biography is absolutely stunning, a definite addition to my library's Juvenile Biography section. The illustrations are so lush, colorful, imaginative, and the perfect addition to the text.

I love when a biography written to be consumed by children is done in a picture book format. It makes it a wonderful thing for an adult to read to a child who is not reading yet, as well as a compelling and informative read for children and youth of reading age.

This was a short, bright, colourful book. I love Rumi's poems and musings & read this to know more about him. This would be good as a physical book and kids would love it too.

I received a free copy from NetGalley. This doesn't impact my opinion in any way.

I love Rumi as an adult so I was curious about a kid-friendly format & this was fantastic!
More of a biography than poetry but there's both along with stunning illustrations. The colors are so bright and beautiful!

Great life lessons here too.
