This children's book introduces/simply tells about the Persian poet Rumi...who lived 750 years ago! It's illustrated with bright colors, & kind of whimsical drawings....& tells of his life of advocating for love & friendship to all....it's a nice message! Knowing anything about this poet is mostly new to this reader, but he is very popular in Asia...so I am glad to have learned something!
I received a complimentary e-galley in exchange for an honest review, from publisher NorthSouth Books, Inc via NetGalley.
Beautiful illustrations! Rumi is one of the greatest poets. One of my favorites for sure.
His message of finding the universe within - the connection to the divine through music and dance , this story is of his childhood and illustrates some of his inspiration, what lead him to his writings
If you haven't read Rumi, pick up a book. I guarantee you will love his works. They are of love and peace . While he was a Sufi , his writings were meant and do transcend all religions.
We are all connected through love !
I love love love that this was written by a female Persian author!
The art is phenomenal and the cat and the hoppee so cute !
Thank you for the ARC.
Beautiful colors and drawing. Wonderful storybook for any parent to read to their child. I'm happy to have learned some of his history and walk of life. You also learn some Persian vocabulary.
“Friendship is the bridge between you and everything.” A beautiful line. I believe books are a bridge to the past and this is one. A colorfully illustrated story on a poet I have never heard of, but am now glad to learn more about.
A great book for everyone.
I loved the beautiful illustrations in the book. The story, not so much. I expected more poetry or philosophical phrases that could be instilled in the young ones, but there wasn’t much.
Although I appreciated the history of Rumi as outlined in the book, I don’t think children would value it as much. And I got the sense that some things got lost in translation since the writing was a little haphazard.
Overall, I found Rumi to be a likable read. Five stars for the illustrations. Two stars for the story, for a three star average.
I received a DRC from NorthSouth Books through NetGalley. The review herein is completely my own and contains my honest thoughts and opinions.
I received a free copy of, Rumi-Poet of Joy, by Rashin Kheiriyeh, from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. The colors in the book are so vibrant. Rumi was born in Iran, and had a great childhood, he made many friends, but Shams was his best friend, who taught him a lot. This is a tribute to Rumi on his 750th anniversary of his death. A beautiful remembrance.
Rumi - Poet of Joy and Love by Rashin Kheiriyeh is a beautifully illustrated account of the life of the Persian poet in honour of the 750th anniversary of his death. I was excited to learn more about the life of the 13th century mystic, and found this to be an enlightening read as I have always been fascinated by the timeless quality of the poet's work. The illustrations are simply stunning and serve to transport us to a very different time and place. While I am not sure that the text will hold the interest of young children, the colourfully detailed pictures will certainly engage the imagination.
Many thanks to NetGalley and NorthSouth Books Inc. for an ARC.
.

From learning the story of Rumi`s life in this easy-to-read story for children -- I am now interested in checking out Rumi`s works. This is a must-add to anyone's book collection.

This gorgeous storybook teaches children about the life of the famous Persian poet Rumi. The colorful illustrations are phenomenal and the story of Rumi’s upbringing and development are easy to follow. An interesting bit of background for children and adults alike. We could all use a little more Rumi in our lives.

A 5 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Review for this colourful children’s book that can also be enjoyed by people of all ages!
Rumi - Poet of Joy and Love is beautifully illustrated by the author Rashin Kheiriyeh. It tells the story of the Persian mystic and Poet Rumi, one of the most widely read poets in the world.
This narrative nonfiction picture book has been published to honor Rumi’s life and the 750th anniversary of his death.
This is a heirloom book that should be read and reread to children as it teaches a lot about the values of simple things in real life as well as the impact of our gestures in difficult situations.
Thank you NetGalley and NorthSouth Books inc. for the gift of this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
Pros: I appreciate children's books that teach me about things I do not know (and probably should). Although I have heard of the poet Rumi, all I knew about him was that he was a poet. I appreciated that this book taught me more about the person, and it inspired me to read more of his poetry. My favorite part of this book was the colorful illustrations that brought the story to life.
Cons: None that I can think of.
Thank you to NetGalley and NorthSouth Books for the opportunity to read this book.
An amazing homage to Persian Rumi-Poet. A story of an aspiring poet child who respects life, love, understanding, knowledge, and friendship. He inspired many with his work enriching children's view of life. The Iranian-American illustrator/author did a fantastic job of celebrating the richness of this poet with vibrant colors and impressive artwork. Each page is a painting on its own. The story of the thirty birds is amazing and I love books that teach us words and their etymology.
Thank you NetGalley and publisher for this e-ARC.
Miigweetch to NorthSouth Books and Netgalley for the DRC.
All opinions are my own.
Beautifully illustrated children’s book about the life of Persian poet Rumi. I thought this was a lovely story appropriate for elementary readers. I would recommend this as an addition to school libraries or classrooms who study global writers.
I've loved Rumi's works, and have spent time in Konya so this pretty picture book was special to me.
Rashin Kheiriyeh, the writer and illustrator certainly doesn't shy away from bright, bold colors offset by a stark white background. There are typically Persian motifs, and a curious black cat that makes frequent appearances.
The story delves into little Rumi's childhood and his fascination with birds and nature. It also touches upon several themes: unexplained emptiness, the strange beauty of certain friendships, jealousy, grief, loss, and the power of a deceased mother's love.
I was personally moved by the visitation dream of his mother urging him to write, and where Rumi was a child again. It hit hard because of flashbacks of my own mother always asking me to "write that book."
Well, I think it's time.
Thanks NetGalley, Rashin and the publisher NorthSouth Books Inc for this ARC copy.
This book is absolutely gorgeous! The illustrations are brilliant works of art that you could get lost inside their vibrant colors. The story was a bit flat I think younger children would be a little bored reading this one. Old kids might find it interesting and the illustrations are certainly engaging for all!
Thanks to North Soith and NetGalley for a sneak peek at this title!
Rumi grew up learning to love books and birds, and as he became an adult, he began teaching, but his heart was not full. Then he met the sun and learned what it meant to have true friendship. But when his friend left, Rumi had to find another way to be complete, and he found it in writing.
This gentle biography covers the main points of Rumi's life and fills the pages of this book with thoughtful descriptions and lush illustrations. It's not very deep, which is often true of picture book nonfiction, but it is very pleasant to read and does a fantastic job introducing young readers to Rumi's life and writings. I hope it will inspire many young people to explore some of Rumi's works.
Thank you to North South publishing and NetGalley for this Arc. All opinions are my own.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing a review copy of this gorgeous biography. I had heard of Rumi and read some of his poetry before, but I learned so much more about this beloved poet and scholar from this book. If I ever read Rumi again, I’ll have a deeper appreciation of his work. The illustrations are colorful and stunning, adding to my interest and eagerness to turn to the next page.
This book is a work of art. The author convey's the story of Rumi's life in a way that can be engaging for readers of all ages.
Rumi is a famous Persian poet of the 13th century. And this book celebrates him by telling his life story in a picture book. The illustrations are outstanding and colorful. I’ve never heard of him and loved learning about his life and his work. The writing is easy to understand and follows his life where he was born in Iran in 1207 and later moves to Turkey becoming a well known scholar, poet and mystic. This can be an easy addition to my biographies for children shelf. Thank you to NorthSouth Books for sending me the ARC via NetGalley.
The art in this book is absolutely beautiful. The colors are stunning and the illustrations are so enticing. Students will gravitate towards this book because of its cover.
The story about Rumi and his journey to becoming a poet is inspiring and one that many students, and teachers, have likely never heard before.
