This is a story about a mischievous dragon who misses its friends and appears to blame its messes on the children in the family. I think it’s going for a vibe like “The Monster at the End of this Book”, but unlike that children’s classic, this one misses the mark. The illustrations are just not good. It was obvious from the title that they’re actually would be monsters. However, the book makes the argument that the title statement is not untrue, because there is only one monster not plural monsters. The grammar is incorrect, and that is what bothers this teacher the most.

An interactive picture book for readers ages 3-7 who enjoy detailed illustrations and silly concepts. I greatly enjoyed taking time to look at the illustrations in this book due to the many details and interactions going on between the children. The simplicity of the illustrators style would make a great talking point for children about their own art works if they are lacking confidence.

I read this book with my 5 year old. While he did like to look for dragons, the story itself did not hold his attention. The pictures looked like “scribble-scrabble” he said. This one just missed the mark for us.

The kids thought this one was just okay. Their feedback was that the pictures weren’t very good and the story didn’t interest them as much.
My thoughts were the same. I didn’t like how the kids were being blamed for some of the things.

This book is cute and interactive and I think would delight my 2-year old son. It doesn’t work perfectly on a Kindle so I would probably need the hard copy if I were to read it to him. Reminds me of Herve Tullet books and other interactive books for toddlers.

I know it's wrong to call a children's book illustrations juvenile, but that's how I feel. This is your standard "find and seek" book. Most importantly, I don't like when titles lie to me.

Very cute children’s book that all ages will enjoy. I loved that the dragon was wearing eyeglasses. I’d buy this for a child in my life. Very colorful artwork.

NorthSouth Books and Netgalley gave me a copy of There are No Dragons in This Book to review:

This interactive picture book is sure to keep kids entertained as they hunt for dragons.

Kids from preschool to early elementary will love this book:

You won't find dragons in this book! Do you really think that's true? Wasn't there one right here? Do you think he's in the attic? You mean he's not alone? Let's shake the book and see what happens!

With a cast of characters both children and adults, Donna Lambo-Weidner's debut picture book is full of humor (and dragons). Funny details and metafictional allusions abound in Carla Haslbauer's scurrying illustrations.

I give There are No Dragons in this Book five out of five stars!

Happy Reading!

I enjoyed reading this story to my class. I thought the concept was clever and the illustrations were very unique. I liked that it was interactive and if I had the physical book, I would have shaken it for my students as directed. My students liked the pictures, that the dragons were sneaky, the title change at the end, the roof was a book in the illustration (creative), the whole in the wall, and everything! They thought the dragon could use a bit more camouflage because they noticed it right away. They would have liked bigger flames for the fireplace page. Some of the dragons and characters weren't fully colored in and they wanted more color. Thanks to netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you Netgalley and Publisher for this advanced copy.

This was enjoyable and funny. I loved how I tried to find the dragon in this book... even though there is not dragon here... or is it?

Rest easy. There are no dragons in this book. It's a book about, uh, a book. Not dragons. So, you're safe. Oh, okay, yes, those are some impressive claws peeking out and that tail, er, mere decorations, but, no, no dragons. And, just in case you doubt me, take it from the the book, there are no dragons. No, no dragons in this book.

Now that you're reassured, this is a playful tale that invites you to search each page spread for signs of a sly, hiding dragon. Oh, true, you'll see quick glimpses that look like a dragon but, nope, no dragons in this book. Seriously, this is such a fun book that uses warm, whimsical illustrations and repetition to keep a child's attention. The artwork is almost childlike, full of things to see. But, no dragons. Each page is a treasure trove of quirky looking non-dragon "things", not to mention everyday items scattered throughout. Since there were no dragons to spy, my favorite scene was the one with the child wearing a cooking pan as a cap but there are many, many more things to find and see. But, no dragons.

I enjoyed imagining a child curled up beside an adult turning the book this way and that, even shaking it as suggested at one point, to try to find more and more things. Heck, you wouldn't even have to read it repeatedly to go on a treasure hunt, so to speak, and I wouldn't be surprised if different things are sighted each read. Thanks #NetGalley and #NorthSouthBooks for this fun sneak peek at a dragon hunt. Loved the humor and interactive possibilities. I'm betting you can tell I had fun writing this review. Ha

This book is so cute! My little guy has been afraid of dragons since we saw some life size animatronic ones a few weeks ago and this booked really helped him! He loved all the “sneaky dragons”!

Maybe I’m not the right demographic but I didn’t like “There are No Dragons in This Book”. I feel like the story is confusing and younger kids won’t understand some of the words and (what I interpret as) sarcasm or irony. The illustrations are cute though.

What a fun hide-and-seek, where is the dragon-is there a dragon?-picture book! I enjoyed the meta fiction aspect that encourages young readers to interact by searching for a dragon (but again, IS there a dragon?). The unique, colorful illustrations compliment and expand the delightful story. Fun read!
