There Are No Dragons in this Book is so much fun. My three year old laughed throughout and wanted to read it again immediately after we finished. It's cute and silly and sweetly illustrated. I'll definitely be buying a copy for our home bookshelf.
There are No Dragons in this Book is a fun, interactive story. Some pages have you looking for a dragon, while others have you interacting with the book to progress the story. The illustrations are a little quirky and I’m not sure they’re quite vibrant enough to hold a child’s attention well, but it’s still an engaging story overall.
I was excited to read this book, as I love goofy and whimsical books with some silliness. Unfortunately, the illustrations were very off putting, chaotic, and lacked vibrancy. The writing did not feel like it flowed, and if I was reading it to one of my kids, they wouldn’t be able to totally grasp the point. It felt like a mash of multiple ideas, without any of them being complete.
Cute interactive book! I think kids would have a good time with it. I wasn’t especially compelled by the prose. And this is really just a personal preference but the illustrations weren’t quite my style. This is a book I’d only buy if my son were super into dragons.
This is a fun book which I will enjoy recommending to families at the library. Kids will love reading the book and discovering the mysterious dragons who can be found in the pages of the book.
I didn’t love the illustration style but that did not stop me enjoying the book.
Such a cute story! Read this with our littles and they loved the illustrations. We really enjoyed the not dragons added into the illustrations 😉 we will definitely be purchasing a copy of this. We highly recommend
Thanks to NorthSouth books for this ebook!
This was a very cute, messily-illustrated book that gives the impression of a child's perspective. My children always enjoy interactive books and this has an element of that, as well as lots of opportunities for them to find "clues" of the dragon's presence. Fun!
The cover is cute but the inside is a bit of a different story. The illustration was not whimsical as one would imagine in a children's book, rather it looks like it is drawn by someone with no real talent. As far as the story goes, I did not find it to be something written well either. I don't mean that harshly but I felt like this book was something I could also create with no writing or drawing experience. The title suggests there is no dragon in the book, yet the narrator is a dragon and by the end of the book, it's filled with dragons and the narrator asks if he should change the title. I just wasn't impressed.
There are No Dragons in this Book is interactive & full of surprises. The drawings are original. The story surprised even me and had the little ones laughing! It is not that educational but not all children's books have to be and I think this one was great fun. Thank you to Donna Lambo-Weidner & NorthSouth Books for sharing it with me!
I was looking forward to a book similar to the Sesame Street classic, "There's a Monster at the End of this Book". Unfortunately, it did not live up to those standards.
While the cover is cute, the illustrations inside seemed childish but not in a whimsical way.
The message of the book felt incoherent. The premise is that there are no dragons in the book, but you see clues that tell you that there really is a dragon in the book. Then you find out that the narrator is, in fact, a dragon. Furthermore, only once the dragon-narrator invites his other dragon friends into the book does he consider changing the title.
This is not a book I would recommend.
Donna Lambo-Weidner's book, "There Are No Dragons in This Book," is a fun and interactive read for kids. It tricks you with its title because, surprise, there are dragons to find! The story pulls you in, encouraging young readers to spot these sneaky dragons alongside quirky characters in a community home. Thanks to Carla Haslbauer's playful illustrations and clever jokes, it's a book that'll have children giggling and hooked on the creative adventure inside.
There are many dragons in this cute book. A little book about a big hidden dragon. Can you see the dragon, it’s hiding, be careful though….is it nice?
This book was kooky and fun! Really unique typography layout, beautiful and engaging illustrations, just a bit out there, which is great! You can't always have the same-old same-old.
There are no dragons in the book? How could that be? There’s a tail hanging on the cover, which means we’re up for a game of hide and seek! Unless you’re scared to go on this great adventure, come join the storyteller and discover the fun surprises at the end.
“There are no dragons in this book” is a short and fun children’s story that quickly grabs attention through the punchy lines, colorful environments and characters, and friendly narrative voice. Towards the end, the book turns even more interesting with a little required interaction. Shaking the pages, the reader finds a small surprise.
There is only one thing I’d have done differently in this book, and that is the font. Despite the pastels and child like illustrations, the font of choice seems out of place. Even though I can see how a thin dark lined modern font would be easier on the eyes for a child, I still believe picking a more fun version that imitated a child’s handwriting, with letters all in bold, of different sizes, and maybe different colors too, would have been more effective.
Anyway, overall, the book is fun and I’m sure a lot of children will enjoy it. I’m happy I also got the opportunity to read an advanced copy and ride with the dragons thanks to Netgalley.
Did you say dragon ? No! There're no dragon here ! There are ? Read it and you'll see ! ;)
This book is cute ! I really loved the end of it !
There are No Dragons In This Book- No, really, there isn’t!
I was given the opportunity to read this as an ARC. My 8 year old son and I read the book together. He was very impressed with the illustrations and they keep his attention throughout the length of the story. He especially enjoyed the brief interactive section of the book! I believe this books target audience would be closer to a younger age group- preschool age, perhaps.
For me, it did lack some structure and seemed like there was not much of a story line to follow. However, I did enjoy the conclusion of the book and thought it was quite fun!
Much thanks to the author, the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
There are No Dragons in this Book is a cute and colorful picture book. I liked the illustrations, and it was fun to spot the different parts of a dragon among the various pages. However, I was somehow expecting more of a “Where’s Waldo” type book where the dragon would be hidden within the environment, and the reader would have to find them.
I didn’t find the story that entertaining. And the flow was a bit scattered. Perhaps I was expecting a rhyming narrative. So, I didn’t quite enjoy the book as much as I thought I would.
Overall, There are No Dragons in this Book is a satisfactory read that will delight some preschoolers with its pastel colors and whimsical illustrations. Three stars.
I received a DRC from NorthSouth Books through NetGalley. The review herein is completely my own and contains my honest thoughts and opinions.
There are No Dragons in the Book is a children's book; illustrated in the same format that one might expect from a child (although a bit more published, of course).
My brother's kids are 5 and 7; I hope my ARC version hasn't expired when the come home for Thanksgiving ... so that I can get their reactions to this one. I hope to update my review with positive feedback.
Thank you NetGalley and NorthSouth Books, Inc for the opportunity to review the advance read copy of There are No Dragoins in this Book in exchange for an honest review. Publication date is Mar 5, 2024.
This is an adorable book that will keep students engaged and searching for the dragon they are sure is in this book! There are charming and detailed illustrations to draw in the audience as they search for clues to the whereabouts of any possible dragons.
This is a fun and interactive picture book that's perfect to share with the littles in your life. The illustrations are quirky and whimsical, and throughout the story contain clues that are definitely not dragons. And if you do find a dragon in this book, and you shake it hard enough, you might be in for a surprise that's definitely not more dragons. This is one your smol ones will probably ask you to read again and again, especially if you really engage with the interactive elements together.
Thanks to the author, illustrator, publisher, and Netgalley for providing a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
