The perfect summer read!!
Light and fun, an easy book to devour! Really enjoyed it.
My first book from this author, but it won’t be my last.
I received this book for free for an honest review from netgalley. Thank you for the opportunity
The perfect summer read.
This is a cute rom-com about two friends who each work in a hotel setting and for a change, decide to swap places. Overall an intriguing storyline - similar to the movie the Holiday - with an interesting approach.
Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for my honest opinions.
I enjoyed this easy read rom-com.
Ginny and Jacqueline are both managers of hotels, one a lovely boutique hotel in Seattle and the others fishing lodge. Both are very different, but the decide to do a job swap for 60 days. It doesn’t exactly go to plan.
Ginny was a lovely character who I liked a lot, she has a good heart and wants to improve her new hotel. Jacqueline on the other hand is not that likable to the point she started irritated me with her childish ways. It was still great to read about them both and enjoyed seeing how the 60 days worked out.
3.5 stars
Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for a copy.
Just for the Summer had a strong start, however as the story went on, I somewhat lost interest/felt like the book quickly lost steam. Job swapping as a concept is so cool and seems like so much fun in theory, but this was not that. However, this is a light and fun read that has the vibes of a Lifetime movie!
Thank you to Revell and NetGalley for providing an ARC!
The concept of the story was interesting - a summer job swap between two hoteliers. One is manager of a small family fishing lodge, while the other runs a boutique hotel...both need a change desperately. Overall I enjoyed the story but found one of the main characters very annoying, I was glad the novel didn't focus quite as much on her.
This was a great book! I loved how they switched lives and really pulled through! I would definitely recommend this book.
I really enjoyed this book. The two main characters, Ginny and Jacqueline, are each getting tired of their management positions and find a website where they can switch jobs for 60 days. The concept of job swapping was so fun- reminded me of the movie “The Holiday”. It was entertaining to read different ways that the job swap worked out, or didn’t work out, in some cases. I liked the conclusion and the ways that Jacqueline and Ginny both seemed to find themselves and what made them truly happy.
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher and all opinions expressed are mine.
This is such a perfect read for fans of the holiday. It follows Ginny who leaves in Seattle and has a terrible and demanding boss and decided to escape .On the other hand is Jacqueline who is currently managing her grandfather's fishing lodge in Idaho. They then decide to swap for just the summer their jobs and things don’t always go to plan as love and interests are tested. .
Thank you to NetGalley and Revell for an advanced read copy of this book.
Frustrated with her current job situation as a manager at a boutique hotel in Seattle, Ginny Masters signs up for a job swap online. This gutsy move leads her to a rustic fishing lodge in Idaho where she quickly learns a change of pace can be a good thing. Jacqueline Potter is very excited to escape her position at her grandfather’s lodge and step into something much more upscale but realizes she has a lot to learn in order to succeed. Through the swap, both women grow in new ways and experience some romance along the way.
I really loved the plot of this book. It’s a light and comfortable read with Hallmark movie vibes. I did struggle a lot with the main characters development and felt like there could have been more depth to their relationships and personal growth stories.
Overall, it’s a clean and lighthearted summer read!
Melody Carlson's novel Just for the Summer starts with two women who find themselves at a crossroads in their lives and what happens when they take a leap of faith into the unknown.
Ginny, the capable manager of a chic hotel, finds the daily grind taxing and yearns for something quieter. Jacqueline, who is running her grandfather's sleepy fishing lodge in another part of the country, dreams of the sophistication and excitement that a more prominent hotel could give her. When fate intertwines, a daring plan emerges—a temporary job swap promising adventure and a chance for each woman to explore new horizons.
Overall, 'Just for the Summer' is a charming and engaging read that will resonate with fans of contemporary romance and those seeking an uplifting story about seizing the moment and embracing the unexpected twists of fate. With its wit, heart, and romance blend, Melody Carlson's latest novel is a perfect companion for lazy summer afternoons or cozy nights by the fire.
Really cute, quick read. I liked it a lot and was able to read it in one sitting. I would definitely recommend it.
Just for the Summer by Melody Carlson is a cute, sweet, and clean read. The story follows Ginny and Jacqueline, two hotel managers that are unhappy in their current situations and agree to do a job swap over the summer. Ginny works at a swanky Seattle hotel, while Jacqueline works at a rustic fishing lodge in Idaho. It is a big change for both of them, but they are excited for the new work environments and seem up for the challenge. The story flowed nicely and I felt the characters had good development. It's a fun, light book that drew me in and I enjoyed it from start to finish.
This fun literary getaway is like a refreshing vacation in a book—whether you want to visit the city or the mountains. Take a hardworking manager of a fancy Seattle hotel and the manager of a remote fishing resort in Idaho and switch their positions for the summer. Both Ginny and Jacqueline feel frustrated in their positions so they swap jobs, resulting in a wonderful tale that explores relationships and dreams for the future along with dealing with past hurts and disappointments. The compelling drama drew me right in and kept me engaged until the end. I enjoyed reading the unique story with its realistic plot and character development. I recommend the clean read to book clubs too. I received a copy from the publisher through NetGalley. All opinions are my own. #JustfortheSummer #NetGalley
This story had vibes of The Holiday though it was set in the summer. Who knew switching jobs with someone else could be so revealing,
Jacqueline and Ginny both have a lot to learn in this delightful tale. This one is set in Seattle and in Idaho which are worlds apart. Having grown up in Idaho and near Idaho Falls, I was delighted to have my state featured, but always get a little distracted when details aren't quite like what I know. That being said, this story was a fun and light summer read, but did have some strong emotional vibes
Jacqueline and Giinny could not be more different from each other. One relishes the glitz and the glamour and the other is a really hard worker that doesn't focus on the fashion.
What would a job switch be with romance in the new areas. The male protagonists were well written and had character all their own. I have read this author before and love the touristy destinations she writes about. I love the small town vibe.
There is conflict in the stories without it being overwhelming and unmanageable. I think this story worthy of other women's fiction summer reads that have come before it. This is a nice clean read with just the right touch of Christian influence
I received an early copy from the publisher on NetGalley and this is my honest review.
This is a story with a really fun premise! I like the idea of job swapping, how fun would that be? Ginny is so sweet and kind. I liked her hard work, organization, and thinking outside of the box. Jaqueline was the exact opposite. Spoiled, lazy, and selfish. She only seemed to care about herself and appearances. I loved watching Ginny as she seemingly and easily began to make friendships and small changes at the River Lodge. This is an easy read and a fun one for anyone looking for a quick summer read! I received a complimentary copy of this book; all thoughts and opinions are my own.
This one was just ok. I didn't really care for the characters outside of Jack and Margie (and Alexi). The story was fine. I mainly kept reading because I wanted to see Jacqueline either get what she deserved or have a change of heart. Overall, a quick, breezy read.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
My thoughts: This was a fun contempory romance -- a clean one, no faith message. I liked Ginnie, she was fun and nice. I didn't care for Jackie so much. It was a fun setting, with two great heroes and a very low key romance. Written in Ms. Carlson's style fans will love it. Grab your copy today. I waa given a copy free and all opiniions are my own.
There are some authors I trust to deliver exactly what I expect when I pick up their books. For example, let’s say I am seeking a novel with a character who is at a crossroads in life, experiences an unexpected event that offers self exploration and understanding, meets a man who challenges and encourages her, and we have a happy ending. That’s when I pick up Melody Carlson. It is the kind of predicability I can rely on when the real world begs an escape, but don’t think that makes her predictable. The craftsmanship that delivers this comfort while creating completely different novels every time is worthy of great respect. On that note, I offer you my take on her latest, Just for the Summer.
Ginny Masters has worked her way up from the bottom to become manager of a posh boutique hotel in Seattle, but her life is not the glitz and glam it seems on the surface. Jaqueline Potter longs for glitz and glam, but instead manages her grandfather’s Idaho fishing lodge. Seeking a change of pace, both sign up to participate in a job swap. Just for the summer. But with the job swap comes a bit of a life swap. Jaqueline finds that the posh hotel daytime only scratches the surface of reality, and Ginny finds that the simple life just might be the life for her. At a crossroads, each has to make a serious decision about what happens in their lives at the end of the swap. With her trademark skill, Carlson delivers relatable characters and a satisfying storyline that will keep you reading.
Thank you to the author and publisher for allowing me a copy to read and review. All opinions expressed here are my own and are completely genuine.
I grabbed this thinking it would be a fun, light read. It IS that but the writing is just not good and very cringy so, though it was a light read, I had trouble enjoying it. The premise was promising and I DID like many of the subcharacters at the fishing lodge but all of the MCs were superficial and the dialogue was BAD. I also did not realize this was a Christian publisher, so when there started to be mentions of God and our Lord, I lost even more interest (if this is your genre, go for it). And though this is (supposed to be?) a romance, this is not the main story line (if it is, it is not well done) and the ending seemed unnatural and rushed. I was close to DNFing this one but pushed through so I could give an honest review.
