This book was surprising good! I think the trope is something that is expected and often predictable, but I loved the banter between the two main characters. I often giggled and laughed at the dialogue and premise, so that is a major plus for me.
I think more background on the characters and a smoother timeline would have solidified this book more for me. There are also side storylines that I am assuming lead up to the next novel in the series. That being said, if you read this book, Lucas’ character has a set fixation that again probably is explained in the next novel, but it adds nothing to this storyline. This isn’t the best book I’ve ever read, but overall it’s something I would recommend to any romance reader!
I loved this book! So fun to read. The story idea of a regular person handcuffed to a movie star for days is a fascinating idea and it does not disappoint. I really liked how the characters grow and learn you don't always know the while story when you only see one side. Being with the right person makes you better and the journey to that was so fun to read. Thanks to #Netgalley for the ARC!
Unfortunately I was not able to finish this book, though I got 50% of the way through. While the premise overall was fun there were a few particular pieces that impacted my ability to read the book. Firstly, it had a large amount of dialogue with limited progression in the plot. This made it hard to understand what the main character was thinking or interpreting the situations to help the reader. Secondly, while I can enjoy a cheesy or slightly unbelievable plot this one was so unrealistic that it made it really hard to continue with the story. And finally, the main character was difficult to sympathize with. When a book has a weaker character that may go through a redemption arc I find it necessary to have something positive about the character to hold onto in the beginning when they're less redeemable, but Olivia didn't have that here. Overall, I think this had the outline of promise, but wasn't able to execute it.
3,5* A nice rom-com, pleasant but not mind blowing.
This is the old they know each other from school they have a secret crush for one another then he leaves town and becomes a world famous actor while she's back home recovering from a hard breakup... then they have to get dinner together handcuffed... Ok so this last point is not something we read everyday and is also where the story felt a little pushed over.
It might have been a nice trick in the beginning, but in my opinion it evolved as overdone...
The other thing that I was bothered with was the prejudice Olivia has about Ryan sustained only by a viral video of a scene he made with his director... I might condone the fact that her opinion was shadowed by it in the beginning, but as they reconnect and spend so much time together experiencing all kind of press stress it surely was something she had to highly reconsider...
What's left is a surely pleasant rom-com, full of catching moments between the main characters, some funny scene and romance.
So not a life altering book but definitely enjoyable when in search for something romantic, dreamy and out of reach.
Thank you Net Galley and Sterling & Stone for providing this book as an arc in exchange of an honest review.
Hooked on Hollywood is a cute second chance romance/rom com. Olivia and Ryan had a memorable date to a dance a long time ago. Since then, Ryan went on to be a movie star while Olivia is fresh off a bad break up and back in her small town. Ryan reputation is under fire after a viral video so he’s back in his hometown for some good PR. When he participates in a fundraiser, they end up handcuffed together for five days giving them time to get to know each other again.
If you are looking for something light hearted and cute, this could be for you! I could definitely see this as a rom com on the screen. I could have used a bit more chemistry between the two MCs and I feel like Olivia’s reason for disliking Ryan after seeing the video was a bit of an overreaction but overall it was a fun story and great for anyone who likes the small town vibes.
Cute story! If you’re looking for a quick light read this is it! Hollywood star visits his hometown and rekindles an elementary school crush. Slightly unrealistic, but what romance book isn’t? Fun read! 3 stars!
This book is a cozy romance that everyone needs to read.
It covers a forced proximity, one bed, fake relationship, enemies to lovers, childhood crush.
It is hard to find a closed door romance however Summers did this brilliantly.
Olivia never got over the crush she had on a boy she had a dance within when she was young. He went onto become an actor and she continued to love his work. Yet, after a confrontation that he had is put on the internet and her crush has shrivelled.
To re-hab his image Ryan decides to go home and participate in a charity event, but evends up being hand-cuffed to Olivia, and she is not too happy about this at all. This form of forced proximity is a new one but it makes it more humorous to read.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from #netgalley , thank you. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Okay, so on the one hand I liked these characters, and on the other the plot was so convoluted and the setup so elaborate and the whole thing so preposterous that it was hard to follow along. It also meant that there was so much time devoted to the setup that we spend a lot less time with the characters actually getting to know each other than we might. Anyways, 3 stars, and I appreciate the effort.
I received a free ARC of this novel in exchange for the prospect of an honest review.
Fun and unexpected, this was different and definitely enjoy it a lot, the whole set up is amazing and loved the whole Hollywood vibe, highly recommend
This was a well written second chance romance with well written characters and great dialogue. The story kept my attention and was a decent fun read
I truly enjoyed this read, which I was surprised because I'm not a second chance kind of romance fan. This was written in a fun pace that I never got bored and enjoyed the ride. I think this is a great book for a vacation or rainy day weekend.
Im so glad i got to read this one later rather than sooner because life happened but I had fun reading this one and it was such a fun experience
This one was so much fun! The story was fast paced and had a great dose of banter. The handcuff situation provided a great twist and some hilarious moments. This book did feel a little mislabeled by calling it fake dating. It didn't really strike me as a fake dating situation as the two were forced together by the handcuffs. There definitely were some situations with the handcuffs that just don't make sense, but overall an enjoyable story.
this was a super cute and simple book about two highschool sweethearts reuniting in a funny way!
I would only recommend this to my friends who can’t read anything else that isn’t a romcom
A sweet stories of force proximity in dual POV. Light read, no spice, and perfect for ice cream lovers. I gave it 3 stars because truly nothing happens in this story. It’s a fun and quick read but aside from the two main characters ending together it felt like the story wrapped up where it started without any major plot point.
Delightful, if a tad predictable, story. Heartbroken, Olivia returned to her hometown, Ocean Springs, after her would-be groom and maid of honor hooked up and then stole her business. Meanwhile, Hollywood heartthrob, Ryan Jones, returns there also to do some much needed reputation rehab which involved a celebrity auction. When her besties pool their funds to win the bid for a dinner date with Ryan for her, the dinner date comes with an unexpected accessory accenting the event's theme of Cops & Robbers. A pair of handcuffs.
Told in alternating POV, I quickly became enamored and invested this story and it's characters. Engaging with charming banter.
great book and loved the mystery through out the book. I loved the characters and how they grew through all of their adventures. I enjoyed this book and this author and will check them out again add them to my reading pile.
4 1/2 stars

This was such a delightful quick read! Olivia and Ryan are just so great and adorable.
This is a closed door (I mean, idk if that's fair since the whole book basically is one huge, sloooooooooooow burn leading up to a first kiss) which is normally not my cuppa, but this is just too cute not to love. I docked 1/2 a point because I still have questions about how and what they slept in that first night as that topic was discussed a lot in detail, but AFTER the first night. I feel like that first night could've been a bit spicier or even just more awkward (building more tension) if the logistics of that first night were explored in more detail.
However, that being said, the band of side characters is almost as good as the plot. Oh, the life in a small town. I mean, as far as slow burn, fake relationship, one bed, forced proximity, enemies to lovers (kinda? she hated him) goes, this is an excellent way to mash them all together. I can't wait to read more by Mia and the next book in the series!
Thank you to NetGalley for a free copy in and I left this review voluntarily.
Hooked of Hollywood by Mia Summers follows small town classmate turned movie star, Ryan, and his 4th grade crush, Olivia, as they accidently get handcuffed together. The premise is cute. If you suffer from second hand embarrassment this is hard to embrace. I was constantly mortified while mentally navigating the actual logistics of the situation. If you are better at suspending disbelief I don't think you'll be hung up on that. Aside from the handcuff obstacles the primary conflict is miscommunication. Both Ryan and Olivia have made unfair assumptions. In the end they work it out and live happily ever after. It is a cute story! There's no spice, i.e. just kisses. It's dual POV which is the best! I struggled with some aspects of the story, mainly the lost cell phone. Do we ever find it? Thank you to Sterling and Stone, Mia Summers, and NetGaelley for this eARC!
The premise of this book had me super intrigued. You've got your standard girl nursing a heartbreak in her hometown when she crosses paths with her childhood crush storyline. But add in the celeb/normie trope, and then handcuff them together for days on end??? Wait, what?
Ok, first off, I was very curious about how the author was going to handle the whole handcuffed with showering and using the bathroom bit. And I admit, I admire the fact that she just didn't pretend that bathrooms didn't exist for days on end. But in the end, I couldn't get over how awkward it was, and the chemistry was lacking. The banter was fab, the chemistry was meh. It's cute, and a bit funny, but also, the plot "twist" at the end with the handcuffs was not my fave. I love a celeb/normie trope, but being handcuffed together wasn't my fave bit.
I was provided an ARC copy of this book through Netgalley. My thanks to the publisher and the author for providing it to me.
