Elle Kennedy can do no wrong in my book! I love "study abroad" novels set in London, and GIRL ABROAD was the perfect addition to that subgenre for me!
Different
I’m usually thoroughly not a fan of a straight up love triangle plot. This one still wasn't my favorite but I did enjoy it, the rest of the book and plot honestly made up for it.
This is 100% a girl caught between two guys she has feelings for, which one is better for her? She likes them both (seemingly equally) but is simultaneously working through discovering who she is and therefore which relationship is more authentic to her. It’s just enough of a distinction that I was able to understand somewhat, even whilst rolling my eyes at the trope. The theme of self discovery pertaining to the romance but also to other aspects of the character arc is well done and I think very resonant to the college experience and the age of most of Kennedy’s fan base. I’d definitely recommend this for anyone looking for a good, spicy, New Adult romance
I thought this was very good and I will have to add this to the shop shelves. Thank you for the chance for us to review.
This is a good book. The main characters is Abbey. She is moving to England for a year in a study abroad program. She is renting a house with three other students, Lee, Jamie and Jackie. She thinks they are girls but when she gets there they are men. She goes to the university, she loves it. She meets lots of people, especially a guy named Nick. Jack keeps walking around without a shirt on and lots of abbs. She has feelings for both Nick and Jack. She has to choose one of them and she does choose and falls in love.
Elle Kennedy hits it out of the park again with New Adult Romance Girl Abroad. I was hesitant at first to read a book that strayed from the sports world Kennedy is so engrained in. Girl Abroad should be read immediately, as an adult with some time removed from college I was able to relate to Abbey and her entertaining roommates. The slight mystery brought on by Abbey's passion for history reeled me in and I could not let go until we all got our answers.
I have read every single book by Elle Kennedy and have loved them. I will say with this one in particular it fell just a little bit flat for me. She will continue to be an auto buy author for me in the future though!
I absolutely adore Elle Kennedy, but this book just didn’t hit the way her other books do. I love the setting of Notting Hill, but I feel like the characters fell flat. Abbey never really developed as a character, it just felt like she bounced along and just made bad decisions. The biggest draw for me in the book was the mystery of Josephine, and I believe that is what kept me going. It was not the worst book I’ve ever read, it just fell short of what I was hoping for, and what I expected from Kennedy
So don't get me wrong I loved this one. But this could have been one epic why choose story. Yes I am that kind of reader! This one thought the love triangle was worth the read and so very good up to the last page.
At Tome Student Literacy Society, we have a list of language and content criteria for the books we select for our annual book award list, the Tome Society Book Award. Upon a language search in this book, we discovered that it did not meet our specific criteria for language. Due to this, we elected not to finish this book for review purposes for our organization. We would like to thank the publisher for the opportunity to review an e-book of this title.
Found this really distasteful and the blurb didn’t prepare me for it. Cheating, sexually pursuing a friend’s parter, too many tropes and not really suitable for this genre. Found it neither romantic nor comedic.
This was a great book and lived up to the hype. I loved the London setting that transported me there and the love triangle kept me guessing. The hint of mystery was great too.
I really like Elle Kennedy books, but please help me out.
Abbey "Abbs" (clever) ships of to London for culture and to escape her "overbearing rock star father" (this has to be satire, right? an overbearing rock star father? how did he go from chasing skirts to a cpa?) and quickly becomes everything daddy dearest feared.
Her thoughts are those of a 19 year old, with not a shred of logic to be found for miles. Why oh why do we have to use the trope of "man who has a girlfriend" like when did this become acceptable in our culture?
God help me if we do one more "it's not REALLY cheating" moment.
Loved the beginning to this book but the love triangle scared me. I hate not knowing who's going to win.
LOVED THIS BOOK!!! I’ve loved most of Elle Kennedy’s other books, so I was excited to read this one and she did not disappoint. A true love triangle where you’re not sure how it will end until it does end. It also allowed you to pick a favourite and really cheer them on throughout the book.
Elle Kennedy knows how to write a story that drags you in and makes you not want to leave. This was a wonderful standalone and gave me all the feels.
I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. This book is the reason I am thrilled that I never have to do my late teens over again. There were so many things wrong with this book, and in the end, I didn't finish it, though; I see how it would appeal to young adults and those in their early twenties.
I am a long-time fan of Elle Kennedy and her latest is definitely a case of it's not you, it's me. I think I've reached an age where I'm too old for college-age characters and love triangles. Ah well, we'll always have The Deal!
Abbey plans to spend a year abroad studying in London, but when she arrives at her flat, she realizes that the roommates she thought were females are all actually males. Darn the male/female names! Keeping this little detail from her wildly famous rockstar father is a bit of a challenge but Abbey is committed to having the best year in London, It also helps that one of her roommates is super hot. Loved the chemistry between the characters. Kennedy knows how to write romance!
A younger Elle Kennedy romance!
This one hit directly in my heart because I was one of those classic undergrads that did a study abroad, and I happened to go to England. I think it made parts of it feel a bit nostalgic but also cheesy, but that was definitely a me problem! I love that she ends up rooming with three guys, and the love triangle was not something I was expecting going in, but also can see why it works so well. A fun and charming read when you are feeling a bit of wanderlust.
This is my first Elle Kennedy book. I've seen lots of good things about her writing on social media so I was excited to be approved for this book. Let's start with what I liked about this book... I liked the premise and the diverse characters. I liked the mystery of the painting. I liked that Abbey was serious about going to college. I liked her realistic/overbearing father.
However, I didn't care for the "love triangle" aspect of this book. I understand why it was included --- it linked the story of the painting with Abbey's real life --- however, it seemed really immature and silly that so many people wanted to be involved with Abbey. She was a likeable character but having 3 different characters interested in her for various reasons seemed overkill.
This doesn't mean I won't try an Elle Kennedy book again -- I just wasn't impressed with this one.
