A Long Time Coming by Meghan Quinn is the third book in the Cane Brothers series. I have not read the first two books. Other than knowing who they end up with and little tidbits of the roadblocks to their happiness, this book can definitely be read as a stand-alone.

This is a friend's to lovers trope for sure. And if you have any issues with the best friend wanting the bride to be, this is likely not the book for you. I find that there are so few books that really have geeky lead characters, and I absolutely love the scrabble and other gaming elements in the book.
Breaker Cane is a great best friend. Some might call him the best man for the job of making sure the bride doesn't get steamrolled by the overbearing future mother in law. When Lia accepts her boyfriend Brian's proposal, no one is more surprised than her BFF. Yes, Breaker is not a fan of Brian, but he's so anything for Lia, so here he is the backup to the disaster of planning a wedding in FIVE WEEKS. Honestly, if that wasn't the death knoll right there, you'll soon figure out that the nuptials are not meant to be.
Breaker and Lia met in college and are still in each others pockets ten years later. They've been in the friend zone, but now it's time to be the grown-up and realize they are each other's persons. Once the blinders come off, the steam heats up quickly and often. Whew, grab a fan, people.

Things that I took away and left we wondering, we spent so many instances mentioning Lias parents' deaths. But we never once mentioned Breakers. And since his financial status and the closeness with his brothers are brought up repeatedly, it just seemed odd.

I blew through this book, which may be my favorite of the Cane Brothers series! Lia is Breaker’s longtime best friend, and from the beginning it’s clear that they are each other’s people. I live for this kind of perfectly-written connection between characters, and it was here in spades. How they slowly started to figure out what they could be — while Lia plans a wedding to another man— was excellent slow-burn material. I was anticipating every next page, and then utterly happy with how the plot developed. This is friends to lovers crafted so well, with amazing spice, humor, and new characters (to me, at least) who had me looking up more of her books to read! I could binge all of her stories, but this one really stuck with me.

Read if you want characters who are simply each other’s soulmates. I highly, highly recommend this one, even if you haven’t read the others in the series!

𝗥𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗡𝗚: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I’m a hot mess. Every flippin’ time, I read a Meghan Quinn book. I shake my head, clutching it, saying, “No, no, no.” I breathe deeply through my nose as I begin again, slowly blinking my eyes as I read —a whole ritualistic process throughout the story. Yet, I keep coming back for more, feeling the pain each time. It’s all good, I tell myself. It’s. All. Good.

I have a soft spot for the Friends-to-Lovers trope, and Meghan has this down. In “A Longtime Coming,” Lia and Breaker have been close friends for a long time. They know everything about each other. Now that Lia is getting married and Breaker is her man of honor, feelings are shifting between them. It’s not helping that Breaker does not like Lia’s fiance, and Lia has been questioning everything from wedding decisions made solely by her soon-to-be mother-in-law to the non-existent schmex life she has.

Though it is a slow burn, “A Longtime Coming” was worth it. Meghan is naturally gifted at building a story and using detailed descriptives with her characters. Her sense of humor is woven through without being overbearing. I loved Breaker. I loved his interactions with his brothers. And the spice was sizzling.

Thank you, Netgalley, for a copy of “A Longtime Coming” by Meghan Quinn

I enjoyed this one soooo much more than the first book. I am not a Huxley girl, but Breaker I love. (Even if I find his name abhorrent)
My biggest issue with this book is dating other people. I understood the situation with Lia, but adding another female just seemed like extra drama.
I love these two though. Their friendship is amazing and one I am jealous of. I laughed so much! Still not a fan of Huxley, but the way he is with his brothers gives him some bonus points.

I always know when I pick up a MQ book that we are going for a fun journey of finding love and these two gave us that and so much more. Friends to lovers that’s a slow burn. One that gives you all the feels and gives you a wonderful entertaining romance. These two has a connection from the very first moment…it just takes them a while to realize that they need one another. That what they have would blossom into a beautiful happily ever after.

Breaker & Ophelia (Lia) have the funniest, sweetest meet-cute during college. Fast-forward a decade and they remain the best of friends who do EVERYTHING together.. - seriously Lia & Breaker's friendship makes me want to go back to college so I can find an SSS and a Breaker of my own!
During a heartstring pulling moment of "he falls first", Breaker realizes all of his feelings aren't platonic and he must find out how to show Lia how he feels without ruining what they have.
What I loved: the quirky personalities, the disastrous wedding planning situations, the text banter, the spice 👌
*Friends-to-lovers is not one of my favorite tropes so I am reviewing with this hias in mind*

Lia is engaged. Her best guy friend of 10 years is going to help her through wedding planning because her new future mother-in-law is more like a monster.

I love Breaker and Lia. This book had everything from love to laughter. I want more of the love story.

This is my first book from Ms. Quinn and it will not be my last. I barely put it down once I started reading. Her witty dialogue and quirky characters pulled me immediately in.
Lia and Breaker have been best friends for a decade after bonding in college. Lia has accepted a marriage proposal and Breaker is not thrilled. This is his bestie, and he knows change is imminent. Plus he really dislikes Brian. Lia's fiance is pretty clueless to what she really wants and he is constantly trying to please his overbearing and psychopathic mother, putting Lia last. Breaker intercedes with the wedding planning to give Lia moral support. The results are hilarious at times and equally heart tugging.
I can't recommend this story enough and it has to be one of the romancrs I have read in a while.
Special thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for a copy of this book for my reading pleasure.

Absolutely cannot say enough good things about this book! Breaker is the ultimate book boyfriend, and anyone can fight me over him being their "Pickle of Honor!"

I always forget how unfiltered Meghan's characters are, and nearly choked multiple times while listening to the audiobook today, but every moment was worth it.

I should've known when they first meet at a secret Scrabble club that I was going to fall hard for Lia and Breaker, but I had no idea just how much! Their genuine friendship grows over time and is something to be envious of.

I'm sad to see the Cane Brothers come to their happy ends, but it was a journey I'd gladly go on multiple times (and probably will!)

Thank you to NetGalley, Sourcebooks Bloom, and Meghan Quinn for giving me an eARC of A Long Time Coming in exchange for my honest review.

I think I just discovered a love for the friends-to-lovers trope. I was not expecting to love the trope as much as I did. There is something so wonderful about learning about an already-established friendship and getting to experience the transformation from friends to lovers. Breaker and Lia have been best friends since college and have never truly considered being more than best friends. However, everyone around them can see the connection between the two. It is not until Lia gets engaged that Breaker realizes that he loves Lia. Do not fret tho, this is not a love triangle. I refuse to spoil anything about how it plays out but trust me when I say this is not your average love triangle, nor does one exist in the first place. I would HIGHLY recommend this book to all romance lovers out there; those who love the friends-to-lovers trope, and those who have not read much of that trope (like me). I will say that this book is a standalone, however a lot of it will make so much more sense if you read the first two books first. The dynamics of characters is not established, because it was established in the first two books (minus Lia and Breakers romance), and as such it makes more sense in my mind to read the books in order.

This was an adorable friends to lovers romance. Breaker and Lia are two peas in a pod. I loved them as nerdy friends with all the crazy things in common. And Breaker was a wonderful buffer as Man of Honor because poor Lia sure needed him.

With Breaker as a best friend, I think Lia’s bar for a boyfriend / husband should have been higher. It was disappointing for me to see how she allowed both her boyfriend and his mom to treat her. It seemed out of character for her to let people walk all over her. It was a relief when something so bad happened to finally snap her back to her senses.

Breaker and Lia as a true romantic couple were total goals.

Friends to lovers is my absolute favorite trope so I was very excited for Lia and Breaker. Even though Lia starts off the book engaged to someone else, I didn't have an issue with any lines being crossed. This was easily one of my favorite Meghan Quinn books.

Thanks to Bloom Books and Netgalley for my copy to review.

Thanks to NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for a review,

I've seen all the hype and I was excited to give Meghan Quinn another try, but I don't think her books are for me. I love romance books, and I love the tropes and everything that comes with it, but when I read this one I just felt like I'd read different parts of this books in others. Breaker and Lia were fine, but I didn't feel really engaged in this story and it was near impossible to get through.

I don't think her books are for me, but I can see why a lot of people like them. Her plotting for me was too predictable but her writing is well done and her characters are interesting and flawed and fun.

Breaker Cane's best friend, Lia Fairweather-Fern, can't get married without some extra help. That's why she's recruited him to take on the snarling beast that's her soon-to-be monster-in-law, Mrs. Beaver. For some reason, the groom's mother seems to have never heard the phrase, "What the bride wants, the bride gets." Lucky for Lia, Breaker has, and he accepts the challenge. After all, how much trouble can one woman cause?
The problem is, it isn't Mrs. Beaver giving Breaker the most grief—it's actually Lia. Because with every second her wedding draws closer, he's starting to see her in a different light. She's always been beautiful, but now, he finds himself staring a touch too long, his hand lingering for one more minute, and when she's upset? Allowing her to sleep in his bed.
Before he knows it, it hits him like a ton of bricks: he's fallen in love with his best friend.
Nothing is snapping him out of it. Not the girl he tries to date during the wedding planning. Not Lia's increasingly suspicious fiancé. Not even the looming deadline of her upcoming nuptials.
Which means there's only one thing left to do: prove to Lia he's the one she should be with instead.
And it's going to be a lot harder than he thinks.

Annnnd Meghan Quinn has done it again!! I love her writing style and her books. This one is really good. Such a fun romcom with just the right amount of spicy!

I am just a huge fan of Meghan Quinn’s and this series is one of my favorites! I was so happy to get to read Breakers story. The friendship that be and Lia had was easily the best!

The only downside to this book is how hard they fought to not let their feelings develop into more romantic ones.

It was there all along and at points got so frustrating. I mean having sleepovers with a male best friend while having a fiancé and planning your wedding with said friend because your fiancé doesn’t show up was maddening. I mean Lia come on! But once they finally got there the book was fantastic.

Not So Meet Cute was recently gifted to me and Not So Meant To Be has been in my cart for a while now so I jumped at the chance to be able to read this one. It did not disappoint. While part of a series, it 100% can be read as a standalone because Huxley and JP's stories with Lottie and Kelsey are explained enough to where nothing is lost. The past is subtly explained in a way that feels organic and not like there's 2 books of history missing. My eARC also had the cutest b&w drawings every few chapters which was amazing to SEE the characters in the scenes. I hope all the books have those.

That being said, Breaker and Lia's story I think was the place to start. We find out that Breaker is by far the kinkier and wilder one of the brothers (it's always the quiet ones) and I was living for it. The angst, the friendship, the banter. watching Breaker figure out that he does in fact love Lia, cringing with Lia over every mishap with The Beave, all...of...it.

I will immediately be going back and reading Huxley and JPs stories because I love these characters so fricken much that I'm not ready to say goodbye. I really hope Birdy and Penn get a book (even though he's not really a Cane Brother).

Thank you NetGalley and SOURCEBOOKS Bloom Books for the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
