High contrast books like this one were a hit with my kids when they were babies. We do have a need for new board books in my library, as they are loved hard and borrowed often.
I don't quite get the "hello" aspect of it - it seems counterintuitive. I do know that it's part of a series, but saying hello at bedtime seems backwards.
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC.
"Hello Bedtime" by Duopress Labs is a high contrast black and white bedtime book for the very tiniest humans.
Before children can distinguish colors they can see high contrast, like black and white. I am recovering from an eye operation and was able to clearly see the images and text in this, so I'm confident it will work for developing eyesight.
Charming pictures and text will appeal to little ones. A couple examples are as follows:
"How's it going soft blankie?"
And "Ni Hau, Nightlight."
This is a board book with rounded corners, printed with nontoxic soy based ink. If my son was still a baby, I would buy this one for him! I LOVED IT!
Thank you to Netgalley, Sourcebook Kids., and Duopress Labs for providing this ebook ARC so I could do this review. Opinions in this review are my own.
I love board books. This one is cute and easy to read with unique black and white illustrations. This would be really fun for a baby to play with and for older kids to read with a baby sibling.
Thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this
This was cute! I’m excited to see what the book will look like once the illustrations are out, but I liked the words. I could see my one year old enjoying this book, as he enjoys others in this series.
Well this was fine apart from one goof, which – seeing as I saw this about five months early – can be mended. It's a very vividly-drawn white-on-black lullaby book, where a baby passes a greeting to everything that will help it sleep – the night-light, pillow, blankie, best book – and everything else that is around (stars, moon, parents as a last thought, etc). The daft thing as-I-saw-it-which-might-not-be-how-you-get-to-see-it is that it says "bonjour" to the "cozy bed", which apart from the Americanised spelling is just the wrong end of the day – say "bonne nuit" or just stop giving the impression this toddler is learning some foreign languages. That said, it is something for very young book-handlers to hold, something to share and therefore bring up the idea a last-thing book read is a part of a youngster's daily routine, and as part of that it's perfectly reasonable. But I do hope for the logic to be returned to the oddly-included French.
I really enjoy these high contrast board books. The color variation and minimal illustrations really helps to focus on the book. This is a fun bedtime story to read to babies. A story with all of their favorite things. I look forward to purchasing a copy for my young niece.
This is an easy ready infant book with eye catching black and white illustrations.
The perfect read to get your baby settled into the bed time routine and familiar with good nights.
As the description notes, this high contrast book is great for young children/babies as they begin learning shapes and exploring the world around them. My only complaint is that I (personally) want more books that don't say Mama and Dada, or rather, I would prefer purchasing a book that offer more options for what makes a family. Even though the primary audience is toddlers/babies who will not pick up on the nuance, as an adult reader, I wanted more. Lovely, crisp, illustrations though.
