A quite interesting story that you firstly assume will be around hate crime ends up expanding into a love story and family drama.

Ich weiß ehrlich gesagt nicht, wie ich dieses Buch bewerten soll, da ich es aufgrund relativ kurzer Ausleihdauer (ohne Verlängerung) nicht lesen konnte.

An interesting story which I have come to as a stand alone.
The story line around how Jade finds a love with a pansexual male is well crafted.
My criticism is that the story failed to make me believe in the characters, which as the 5th in a series should have. For me it felt more like the author had been told to explain trans and pansexual to an audience (possibly youthful) and that this was their attempt- an attempt which still needed refining. Though it had been outlined well initially.

This was such a cute story and I loved the trans representation. I feel like books with trans MCs don’t get enough recognition. I loved Jade and Andrew.

Full disclosure, I did not finish but got about a third of the way through the book.

This could be a fun read for those newer to the romance genre or who are looking specifically for stories with trans main characters. I feel like this is an underserved demographic, especially in romance novels. I primarily read and review LGBTQ+ books with a focus on lesbian main characters and romance.

The initial interactions between MC and their love interest were flirty enough but I honestly couldn't make it far enough due to the overall quality of writing. This felt like fanfiction and I couldn't get into the story although I tried. I do love fanfiction, though. I just don't feel like this story was written for me.

None of the non-MC's felt like they had distinct personalities. Even the MC fell into stereotypical trans tropes that didn't connect well enough.

Thank you to NetGalley and author Jennifer Herrington for the ability to read and provide a review.

This was the first time I read this author. I felt like this was a little less of a romance and more of a novel that had a romance. I'd have liked the two characters to have had a longer courting process.

The final book in the Geek Girl Squad series is a heartfelt, thoughtful close to a romance that is able to carefully integrate ideas of evolving friendships as people mature. The protagonists are wonderfully characterised and the extended ensemble in the friend group and tales are sprinkled throughout. Caldwell is skilled at creating vivid settings and sensory imagery and the emotional subtleties that pepper the story such as Jade's quiet heartbreak at her abandonment by the majority of her birth family due to her being trans. The book is inclusive and sensitive in the warm and subtle way all acceptance should be handed out. The misunderstandings are all well-constructed and really speaks to how Caldwell understands young adults.

I am now fully tempted to read the previous five books in the series and feel so blessed to have met Jade!
