The She Shed, written by Leah Orr, is a fictional book featuring main character Charlotte. Charlotte grew up in the care of her Aunt Adeline, after her parents died in a car crash when she was five. Charlotte moved away for boarding school as a teenager and has never really gone back to Jensen Beach, Florida. But this changes one day when she gets a phone call that her aunt went missing, after a neighbors dog found a bone in her backyard. This book follows Charlotte's journey back in Jensen Beach, her connecting with past friends and figuring out where her aunt is, and what she might be hiding.
I really enjoyed the storyline of this book. There was just enough humor to make me laugh and break up some of the more serious parts of the book. I enjoyed the friendships that Adeline and Charlotte had with their friends and neighbors in Jensen Beach, and I also appreciated the chapters from different characters points of view. I also loved the ending, and thought this was a very sentimental book in spots!
Thank you to NetGalley and to the author and publisher of this book for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
An incredible book with wonderful characters and a beautiful setting. It will keep you guessing until the end.
2.5*
A cosy mystery/thriller with writing that isn’t very good and a plot that isn’t very realistic. It was engaging enough to read but I was put off by the writing, and then further put off how the plot reveal is told twice, one by dual timeline and one by present-day characters meeting. The romance disturbed me greatly. What I did like was a lot of the quotes.
“When you take care of yourself, everyone gets the best of you.”
“Dress shabbily and they remember the dress; dress impeccably and they remember the woman.”
“A woman can only live in one of two houses—fear or love. She cannot live in both at the same time.”
I received this book for free for an honest review from netgalley. Thank you for the opportunity
Fun quick read.
This was a book that I struggled to get into and although it was okay I didn't find it enthralling or exciting. It started out not to bad but went downhill for me from there. A bit slow, a bit boring and not as well written as I would have liked.
Thank you NetGalley and Orrplace Press for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.
I picked up this book because I have been dreaming about having my own she-shed and I thought I'd have fun reading about one. That said, although I thought the book was fine, it did not engage me the way I had hoped
Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
A rather strange type of mystery. Interesting reading though. Thank you for letting me read this one.
The first few chapters were gripping and had some nice banter. After that I felt like I was reading an outline for a book. The characters and story were just a bit underdeveloped.
The She Shed, a mystery by Leah Orr is set in the quaint coastal town of Jensen Beach, Florida. The novel weaves a dual narrative, exploring family secrets through the perspectives of Aunt Adeline and her niece, Charlotte. Orr skillfully combines the beauty of the seaside locale with unsavory elements, creating a vivid and engaging story. While the pace is measured, it adds to the cozy atmosphere. (I received a complimentary reader copy and all opinions are my own.) The importance of friendship and family takes center stage, making "The She Shed" a pleasant read for those who enjoy mysteries with a touch of family drama in a picturesque setting.
I enjoyed this story so much I went in search of the author to connect with. She sent me a physical copy of her next book The Fruitcake and I can’t wait to start it! I saw some reviews about too much profanity but I thought it was fine and didn’t take away from the story.
This was not a fun read for me. I was kinda boring. I just really couldn’t get into it. Very slow. Only 2 stars for me
When her aunt goes missing, Charlotte has to figure out what happened. But the bodies keep coming and she has more questions than answers as she delves into Aunt Adeline’s demise. She is in for even more surprises along the way.
With his being a novella, it was a little to short to really convey all that needed to be when reading a first story. It made me feel al little rushed and out of sync at times. But all in all, I would read another if this turned into a series.
This was written so poorly, the dialogue was stiff and unnatural (people speak in contractions in real life, it’s so odd to write out full sentences) and the storyline was all over the place.
Thank you to NetGalley for the advanced copy
This is a quick and interesting weird read. What do you do when your aunt goes missing and then the police find a bunch of corpses on the property? Wouldn't that be awkward?
The She Shed by Leah Orr is a mystery thriller book set in the quaint little town of Jensen Beach, Florida.
When her aunt suddenly disappears, Charlotte returns to the town she grew up in to get some answers. However, what she unearths is far more than what she bargained for. Starting to fall in love with the local cop Derek and getting a mysterious message from her aunt, Charlotte has a lot to unpack in the way of family secrets.
This was a decent book imo but I didn't just love it honestly. I found the main character to be a bit annoying and whiny. One instance specifically was when Derek called her to inform of her aunt's disappearance and she pleaded with him to tell her everything despite him giving no indication that he was reluctant to do so.
However, I very much enjoyed the chapters from Adeline's POV and she definitely was one fierce character. I liked the mystery of how all the bodies ended up being buried too. The friendship theme was well explored in the book.
3 stars.
When Aunt Adeline goes missing, it is up to her niece, Charlotte, to uncover the clues of her deeply hidden family secrets and the town she calls home.
A fun and cozy mystery!
I was drawn to this book because of the title and the cover. An acquaintance has a she shed and I find them intriguing. But the book itself was a shocker. Bad language thought out the entire book. The story itself was alright but bordered on bazaar . I couldn’t really call it a mystery because readers are informed about what is going on. I did finish the book but don’t recommend it to people who are uncomfortable with swearing and taking the Lords name in vain. I should have read the reviews before requesting this book. My bad. Let’s just say the characters in this book kept a lot of secrets.
This book is definitely for adults and is listed as 18+, Historical Fiction,Mystery &Thrillers, Novellas and short stories. It isn’t cozy mystery.
I read an advanced readers copy . All thoughts and opinions expressed here are entirely my own.

The She Shed, set in a small Florida town, abounds with dead bodies. A group of friends become embroiled in murders that they cannot divulge to authorities for various reasons. When an aunt, the owner of the she-shed, goes mysteriously missing, her niece is notified, The neice fears her aunt is dead. Instead of explaining her disappearance, the aunt leaves behind a cryptic poem and a troubling video. The narrative then shifts to the aunt's story. The story is quite a romp with eccentric characters until the satisfying end when all questions are answered.
#TheSheShed #NetGalley is a mind blowing mystery that will have every reader shaking their head throughout the book.
Charlotte receives a phone call alerting her that her Aunt Adeline is missing, she hasn't been seen in a week.
Charlotte returns home to Jensen Beach, Florida, hoping to find out what happened to her aunt.
Charlotte is greeted by Millie, a strong, loving friend of her aunt, Randall, a neighbor and another close friend, and Betty, the odd neighbor who yells profanities at everyone and honestly had me laughing out loud so many times.
Charlotte insists on finding her aunt, and when she discovers clues left behind, she begins to put the pieces together, uncovering secrets and proving that family and friendship means everything to the people.
There is some language that others may find inappropriate, but it was an important part of the story, so I hope others aren't discouraged from reading it.
I'm happy to recommend The She Shed to all readers!
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for selecting me to read an advanced copy of the book.
Aunt Adeline has gone missing, and the police have dug up her back yard. Charlotte is frantic with worry, despite the kindness of handsome officer Derek. Is Adeline a victim—or the perpetrator? This quirky, over-the-top, cozy-ish mystery is entertaining, heartwarming, and funny.
Thanks, NetGalley, for the ARC I received. This is my honest and voluntary review.
