Divorced, broke and bored at work, Chloe Flynn is living a life her teenage self would hate, so the invitation to her 10 year school reunion couldn’t have come at a better time. Back at her elite private school, Chloe sparkles as she reunites with old friends and long-forgotten love interests, but what will revisiting her past do?

Well, hot damn! I do not know what I was expecting when I started reading, but I can honestly say it wasn't this. Phew, this one was dark and twisty and left me shook. What you think is happening, isn't. No one is who you think they are. It's a bit of a slow burn, but stick with it because you will not want to miss that ending. SO GOOD!

A huge thank you to NetGalley, Thomas & Mercer and the author for an ARC of this novel in exchange for my honest opinion.

The School Reunion was a remarkable story. I read it a little too quickly, lol, I just couldn't put it down, I absolutely loved it and highly recommend it!!

Chloe, a divorced and financially struggling woman, finds herself at a crossroads in her life. Her mundane job and lackluster existence leave her yearning for something more. Just when she needs a change, an invitation to her school reunion arrives, offering her a chance to escape her current reality and reconnect with her past.

As Chloe attends the reunion, she quickly realizes that things are not as they seem. The atmosphere takes a sinister turn, and the secrets she thought were buried resurface, threatening to unravel her life.

Shalini does an amazing job as she builds tension and suspense as the truth behind the past slowly unravels, leaving readers on the edge of their seats.

The plot's twists and turns keep readers guessing, and the ending revelations are both shocking and satisfying. is a gripping and chilling story that into the dark secrets of the past.

Oh my goodness what a read and what a spectacular ending. Never in all my years of reading have I come across such a unique ending. I certainly didn’t see it coming. Anyway back to the start 😂

Chloe receives an invitation to a school reunion. At first she was reluctant to go but in the end she decided maybe it wasn’t such a bad idea. No sooner than Chole has confirmed she will attend she starts getting emails from an anonymous person warning her off going. Chole has a secret from her school days which clearly someone knows about.

Although this rattles Chloe she still goes ahead and attends the reunion in hope that her school girl crush Nathan will be there. As it turns out he is and he and Chloe hit it off right from the start. It is there that the story starts to develop. Secrets come out, truths are told and lies come out building up to that fabulous ending.

I am a massive fan of Shalini Boland, I’ve read all of her books and always know I’m in for a treat whenever I open one of her books, and the school reunion was no different. I’d certainly recommend this book or any of Shalini Boland’s books to anyone who is looking for a good read 🙂

Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for an advance copy of this book in exchange for this review.

This was a very twisty thriller and I will admit it had some turns that took me by surprise. The writing was exciting and this was the kind of book that keeps you up way past your bedtime. The story is told in 3 perspectives: Dean, Chloe, and flashbacks of the past. Chloe is disappointed she is divorced, works a small job in a bank, so she has no interest in attending her high school reunion. But thinking about the boy she had a crush on convinces her to go even though she swore she’d never go back. Dean is trying to take care of his son, but after a business deal went beyond poorly for him he is focused solely on revenge. The night of the reunion old secrets will come to light and Chloe, Dean, and the rest of Chloe’s classmates will all have to learn that you can’t ever escape the secrets of your past.

I’d like to thank Thomas & Mercer and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘The School Reunion’ written by Shalini Boland in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

Chloe Flynn lives in Bath, divorced, working as a bank cashier and bored with her life. When she receives an invitation to a reunion at West Cliff School she decides to go despite receiving vicious emails warning her to stay away. It’ll give her the chance to meet up with old friends especially Nathan Blake who she’d always liked. She just has to hope that the secret she’s kept for the last fifteen years remains just that – secret!

‘The School Reunion’ is a an exceptionally well-written and very gripping thriller with a brilliant plot and loads of drama and intrigue. If this isn’t enough, there are suspenseful twists and turns that made me wonder how the story was going to evolve and characters I wasn’t sure could be trusted. Then just as I think things are coming to a timely end we’re given a firecracker of a final twist leading to a conclusion that’s not only a great shock but totally unexpected. I loved this thriller I devoured in less than a day and that I have no hesitation in recommending.

Chloe Flynn has recently been divorced from Ben and as she didn’t fight him for her share in the split, she is subsequently broke. She doesn’t have a great job and wonders where her life is going.
Out of the blue Chloe receives an invitation to a school reunion and after much deliberation she decides to attend. Chloe doesn’t have many fond memories of school days, attending a private school having gained her place by way of a scholarship. As most of her fellow students come from rich families, Chloe tended to stand out and not in a good way. Before the reunion, Chloe reacquaints herself with her best friends from school and is also hoping to bump into Nathan on the night, who she really fancied whilst attending the elite school.
At the reunion, Chloe finds herself being actively pursued by an old love-interest, for whom she has no affection, but her eyes are firmly set on Nathan. Chloe soon discovers that not everyone attending the reunion has clear and honest motives. The plot soon takes a sinister twist and you realise that nothing is as it first seemed.
I just LOVED this book. Shalini is one of my favourite authors who never fails to disappoint. Her plots always drag you in from the first page and keep you hooked with no let-up. There are always some great twists that you don’t see coming. Her books are superb and this one is in no way any exception. I never think twice about picking up a book by Shalini and don’t even consider reading the back cover first – you just can’t go wrong if you pick up one of her books.

The School Reunion by Shalini Borland provided an exciting kickoff to the new year. The narrative was a swift, immersive journey that left me eager to turn each page. I found myself deeply invested in the characters, constantly speculating about the potential collision of Ben and Chloe's worlds and whether it would indeed happen.
However, my enthusiasm was slightly dampened by the unexpected shift in Chloe's character towards the story's conclusion. It felt somewhat disconcerting as if her transformation was contrived to neatly fit the narrative rather than being an integral part of the planned storyline. In a work of fiction, one anticipates twists and turns, but this alteration seemed more like an afterthought, leaving me feeling a tad deceived.
Nevertheless, the novel boasted a wealth of surprises and intricacies towards the end, ensuring a shocking and satisfying conclusion. Despite my reservations about Chloe's character arc, The School Reunion presented a compelling and dynamic reading experience overall.

This is another renuinon and secret if the past coming to light type story but reading this one was a completely different experience than a lot of others of a similar story line I've come across. The writing was second to none, the characters realistic (if a bit annoying and petty but who isn't?!) And the twists..... oft! The twists had me floored. I absolutely did not see them coming even when I was incredibly cocky about being sure I'd got it all figured out. Kept me invested and dying to see what would happen next

WOW! If this isn't a book to brag about I don't know what is... I started it late last night. Never did I anticipate I would be closing the book at 3am left in complete shock... This book was insane! It was twisted, it was gripping but it was so darn good!

The invitation has arrived for your school reunion. Everyone is going to be there. All your friends, exs and enemies. Chloe's life is not on track but she's ready to try and fix that; just as long as her ex can get out of the way. Shalini does a great job of weaving two stories lines to the end. She does a great job of keeping you interested to the very end with a few fun twists along the way.
Thank you to NetGalley, Shalini Boland & Thomas & Mercer for this ARC. These are my honest opinions. This book comes out January 15th.

Another good read from Shalini Boland. The prospect of a school reunion should be exciting shouldn’t it? Not for Chloe Flynn - it dredges up terrible memories of her elite private school and her time spent there as a scholarship pupil. Even worse she’s divorced, hard up and constantly criticised by her over bearing mother. When she agrees to go, she begins to receive anonymous emails warn her to not attend. Is it Chris her ex or someone else?

I imagine there are two main reactions to the thought of meeting up with your old class mates several years after leaving school - excitement or dread. Having attended a fairly toxic school in Bournemouth myself, I was firmly with Chloe in the dread camp!

This book was compelling in the same way as how you can’t help but look when someone says to you, “don’t look now, but…”
and I couldn’t put it down!

I was intrigued to find out how Dean’s story would link with the school reunion and that absolutely did not disappoint. The tension kept building and then, OMG! That ending! WOW! Absolutely brilliant 👏🏻

5 ⭐️ Thanks to Netgalley, Shalini Boland and Thomas and Mercer for an ARC in return for an honest review.

When Chloe receives an invite to her school reunion, the absolute last thing she wants to do is go, until one of her old best friends gets in touch saying they are going and that her high-school crush will be there. Recently divorced and pretty fed up with her life, it could be the best thing for her. But with secrets to keep hidden and anonymous emails warning her to stay away, can she still bring herself to go?

This is another Shalini classic - a well-written, twisty read that will have you thinking one thing, then smack you with what is actually happening! Following Chloes perspective, as well as contractor Dean and with a past perspective explaining something that had happened when they were all at school, this was a well-rounded and speedy read that will keep you gripped right to the very end!

Tense and gripping! The story is told from 2 points of view, Chloe and Dean. Two seemingly unconnected people. A third voice from the past also tells part of the story - but is this person reliable?

A dark and tense story of the secrets lurking in closets. Who knew a school reunion could bring so many secrets out of the woodwork?

A gripping story that has plenty of twists and a very dark ending!

THE SCHOOL REUNION started off a little slow but then picked up pace rapidly and was a great read. Thoroughly enjoyed the plot twists throughout, and was easy to follow the various POVs and timelines. The ending was great as well - will definitely be checking out more from this author.

Thanks to NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer for the opportunity to read and review THE SCHOOL REUNION.

This was my first book from Shalini Boland so I didn’t know what to expect. What I definitively did not expect was that I all I thought I knew about the characters is simply not true.

Chloe is thirty something and recently divorced. This breakup left her with no friends, they all sided with her ex, and a boring job. Then she receives an invitation to a school reunion. That gives her the opportunity to rejoin with two of her former friends and swoon about Nathan Blake, her crush back in the days. She hopes he will show up so that she can catch up on that little spark that was between them. Chloe seems very insecure, her own mother keeps nagging at her for everything she does. And she still things about her ex-husband and his new wife and kid. When the day of the reunion arrives it seems at first that everything will go to plan. But soon everything suddenly is totally different than what I thought.

Chloe is not an easy character but I could feel for her at first. There are also chapters with flashbacks to the time at the school and there is another POV from someone called Dean who got into trouble with a wealthy man he worked for and did not get payed. For quite a while I was irritated by these chapters and could not fit it into Chloe’s storyline. But towards the end everything comes together and left me puzzled. I really did not expect that ending.

Up until half of it I thought this would be a solid 3 Stars review. It was a decent book with an easy to follow story. But after finishing it I must admit that it surprised me and that I underestimated the plot. So I happily give it 4 Stars.

I’m glad Shalini Boland writes as much as she does because I love her books. Her latest, The School Reunion, didn’t let me down. Imagine you’re down on your luck and feeling depressed and then you get an invite to a class reunion. As depressing as that might be, for Chloe it could be a second chance. Most of all, she’s excited to see Nathan, a former flame.

Synopsis:

The invitation to her school reunion couldn’t have come at a better time for Chloe Flynn. Divorced, broke and bored at work, she’s living a life her teenage self would hate. Turning the clock back fifteen years might be just what she needs to wipe the slate clean and start again. And then there’s the chance she’ll bump into Nathan Blake, the one she still regrets letting get away…

Back at her elite private school, Chloe sparkles as she reunites with old friends and long-forgotten love interests. And then, just as she’d hoped, there’s Nathan, more handsome than ever before. Even better, he’s single too, and seems to be just as keen to make up for lost time…

But as the evening progresses, Chloe can’t help feeling that something’s not quite right—that she’s not the only one who’s come here for more than just a party. When the secrets of the past start to emerge and the reunion takes a sinister turn, it’s clear that nothing is what it seems—and nothing will be the same again.

Coming out on January 16.
