I liked the fact that this felt like a self help book told as a fictional story -- quite an interesting way to present self-help subjects. But the characters felt one-dimensional at times and the story relied on "this just happened" a bit too much. Nevertheless, quite an interesting read.

What a book. From the first page to the last, I absorbed the messages and meanings like a sponge. The right books always find me when most needed, and this one filled such a void that I ordered an actual physical copy. If you’re like me and like to underline, take notes, and savor deeply thought provoking passages, grab a physical copy of this one. I’d never read this author before, and in a serendipitous twist, as I went to buy, perused the authors list of published pieces. One caught my eye. A small book, I recall a neighbor sending it my way last summer, and I had never gotten around to picking it up again. Next up will be Holy Moments. The Rocking Chair prophet is a must have for any bookshelf. Highly recommend this one.

This is probably the first book I ever read that I feel I need to recommend to anyone that will listen. There are so many lessons within these pages that we often need reminding of. Spiritual but delivered in such a light, easy way. This was a quick read packed with many wise words!

I received a free copy of, The Rocking Chair Prophet, by Matthew Kelly, from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. I have loved Matthew Kelly's other books, but not this one. Daniel has had a lot of tragedy in his life, losing his wife and two daughters. Daniel moves to the mountains for awhile to try and move on, people see Daniel and think he is a prophet. It was an ok, read, I just prefer Matthew's other books.

Matthew Kelly’s The Rocking Chair Prophet is a motivational, spiritual story. There are strong messages regarding finding inner peace, focusing on non-material things, and the power of silence and listening.

Rocking Chair Prophet is not Christian per se, and the idea of religion versus spirituality is addressed in a later chapter. I appreciated the inclusion of Christian, Jewish, Muslim faiths in that chapter.

The overall message and Daniel’s journeys worthwhile, however, I did not care for the somewhat flat, one-dimensional storytelling or the over-used phrase “it was written” when there is no reference to the source of the writing. For anyone exploring their life and/or alternatives, The Rocking Chair Prophet is worth the read.
