The book summary and cover caught my eyes and made me so excited to read this, however the book itself didn't fill me with the same sense of wonder and delight that the summary did. I Loved the plot and the writing, but there was so much that appeared to happening off the page that I felt I needed to know. I don't mind a mystery or A slow burn, but I need to have something pulling me forward to fill that gap.
This had potential, but unfortunately, it fell short. The plot intrigued me, but the rushed pacing prevented any real connection with the characters.
It was frustrating how the narrative withheld crucial information from the main character, while other characters seemed oddly complacent about it. While I’m curious about the series’ direction, I’ll be approaching the next book with tempered expectations.
Ich weiß ehrlich gesagt nicht, wie ich dieses Buch bewerten soll, da ich es aufgrund relativ kurzer Ausleihdauer (ohne Verlängerung) nicht lesen konnte.
"And when she found the murderer, she'd kill him for taking her sister's life. A life for a life."
Thank you to NetGalley and Reign Publishing for an advanced copy of The Queen's Crown in exchange for an honest review.
The Queen's Crown is about 18-year-old Princess Sabine Ludwig of Bakley who thought her biggest problem would be trying to find a somewhat interesting and handsome prince to spend her time with however her entire world is turned upside-down when her beloved sister is killed in a foreign country right after being married to a foreign king. Sabine volunteers to go to Lynk to find out who killed her sister and why at the expense of being married to the King of Lynk. Once she arrives in Lynk and begins her investigation, she starts to find information that will change everything between her home country of Bakley and her new country of Lynk.
I really enjoyed this book because Princess Sabine really held her own throughout the events of the book. She is not afraid to speak up for herself and to grab a weapon and defend herself. I also loved the dynamic between Sabine and her sister, Alina. Even though we only get to see their relationship for a couple of pages, I really connected with their characters and how much they loved and depended on each other. I also loved Sabine's relationship with her brothers. Sabine's dynamic with Markis was also super interesting. I thought he almost posed as one of her brothers once she moved to Lynk since her brothers couldn't go.
Overall, I would love to read the sequel to this book and I would give this book 4/5 stars!
An interesting read with a great plotline. I like revenge stories where vengeance is the main focus, mixed in with some fantasy and romance to make it all the perfect love story.
This one had a promising premise and an interesting main character who had so much inner strength. She goes through a lot and becomes stronger and sharper. I love the character development - from a spoiled princess to a smart royal. But I was quite annoyed by the other characters! They seemed to treat the heroine as a pawn and though there wasn't much of a romance, I hope the king isn't the actual love interest because he seems so smarmy and selfish? Especially by the end he's not appealing at all. He's also very manipulative and dismissive of the heroine at times. I'd like to see where the story goes but I'm unsure of what might happen next.
This was, in the end, an Okay book. I was really interested in the plot and intrigued by the possibilities. Unfortunately, the character development was all over the place; there was no emotional connection with any of the MCs or side characters, mainly because the writing felt rushed.
I'm interested to know what it is that all the other characters apparently have knowledge of but felt there was no need to tell our FMC, even when it was clear to them that she was missing some important information, but not even the ones that are supposed to be helping her said anything.
So, I will probably read the next book, and hopefully the writing will improve. I'm just not in a rush to get to it.
Firstly, Thank you to NetGallery, the author Jennifer Anne Davis and Xpresso Book Tour for providing me with the ARC of The Queen’s Crown in exchange for an honest review.
Rating: 4 stars
The Queen's Crown is a thrilling tale of intrigue and deception that kept me on the edge of my seat. Following Princess Sabine Ludwig's journey to uncover her sister's murderer, I was drawn into a world filled with lies and secrets. While the plot was engrossing, I found myself frustrated by the lack of information given to the characters, leaving me with more questions than answers. Despite this, the story's cliffhanger ending left me eagerly awaiting the next installment.
With a cast of complex characters and a web of political intrigue, The Queen's Crown is a must-read for fans of fantasy and mystery.
The plot was fine but man was that romance very poorly written. For the first half of the book, nothing and I repeat, NOTHING, happens between our two MCs. And then, out of nowhere, they suddenly fall in love. That's poor writing in my opinion and since it's mostly a romance before being a fantasy, it kind of sucks if it can't get right what it set out do be. 1.5 stars
thank you to netgalley for the advanced reading copy. I really enjoyed this and will be getting copies for my shop.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. Thank you to Netgalley and Reign Publishing for giving me the opportunity to review this book. All opinions are my own.
I have some mixed feelings about this book. On the one hand, I felt frustrated with the characters lying to the MC so much of the time and I felt like I couldn't trust anything that was being said. I really just wanted the plot to move forward clearly. I also really wanted to see more world building than there was. It felt like the book was missing key information and wasn't quite complete. On the other hand, I really enjoyed the story and want to see where this goes in the books to come.
I was so on board with this one to start. But sadly once it really got started it fell apart and failed on all accounts. You have this beautiful story about a girl who is going to step in when her sister is murdered. She is head strong, sexy, and goes after what she wants. But then it gets going and instead of this woman we have been reading turns into a teenager that is scared of her own shadow. The character development needed worked out a lot better and this woman needed to figure out who she wanted to be. The world building was the best part of this one.
I really did enjoy this read. For me, it was a solid 3 stars and that’s a good rating. It means I was entertained and would likely recommend to others.
Unfortunately this book wasn't for me! I couldn't really get into the writing or connect with the main character, even though the plot seemed really interesting.
This book really just took me for a ride. I loved the build up, the character development, and the writing. I would definitely read more from this author!
I liked the twists and turns this book took, along with the slow burn but I felt like the cliffhanger/ending was too abrupt. I needed more resolution before finishing the book.
I was a little surprised to find that this was not a debut author, unfortunately the writing felt underdeveloped.
I will be interested in checking into the next book to see how it progresses.
This book was pretty good, I enjoyed the story and the characters. Overall 4 stars. Thank you NetGalley for the ARC
The Queen's Crown by Jennifer Anne Davis is an engaging and thrilling read that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end. Davis is a skilled writer who masterfully weaves together an intricate plot full of unexpected twists and turns that are sure to leave readers gasping in shock. The story is set in a fascinating world full of political intrigue, where the stakes are high and trust is in short supply.
The characters are well-drawn and nuanced, with complex motivations that keep the reader guessing. The protagonist, a young woman named Brianna, is particularly compelling, as she struggles to navigate a world that is hostile to her and her family. Davis does an excellent job of creating tension and suspense throughout the story, building up to a dramatic and satisfying conclusion that will leave readers eager for more.
Overall, The Queen's Crown is a well-written and engaging book that is sure to appeal to fans of fantasy and political intrigue. Davis is a talented author who knows how to keep her readers hooked, and I look forward to reading more of her work in the future.
I really wanted to love this one. Unfortunately it fell flat for me. The story was interesting but the writing was off-putting. Some of the conversations felt abrupt or out of place. It felt as though we weren't given enough information at times. Overall an average read.
To be entirely honest, I could not finish this book.
The plot was very interesting and I was truly very excited to read it but, the writing really disconnected me from the story, I just couldn’t get into it no matter how hard I tried. I felt like this was a first draft of the book that really needs some polishing and editing to truly reach its potential.
