I'm always up for a book that asks us to reimagine or reconsider a familiar narrative. I'm not sure, though, that it works for nursery rhymes as well. They don't have motivation or reason, are more about sound than anything else. So using something like Humpty Dumpty to explore narrative, why we believe what we believe, might be a bit of a stretch.
I received a complimentary copy of this book via Netgalley. Opinions expressed in this review are my own opinions.
The only negative thing about this ARC is that it won't be released until Spring. It's enjoyable for both adults and children.
Clever story with clever characters.
This takes on the classic Humpty Dumpty tale in a new and interesting way. Humphrey wants to have fun but is overly cautious due to the tales of his uncle. In this adorable story, he has to find a balance between being careful and having adventures.
What a funny story!!! Warning: Do not sit on wall! It is a spin on Humpty Dumpty with a character named Humphrey. I think anyone familiar with the story of Humpty Dumpty will enjoy this book.
I received an electronic ARC from Cicada Books through NetGalley.
An interesting look at what happened with Humpty Dumpty's extended family after his fall. Readers meet Humphrey as he prepares to play outside. His parents take every precaution and make sure he is prepared for all eventualities. Finally, he leaves the house and ventures across the street to the park. There he meets an adventurous princess who shows him how to be bolder. He also learns an interesting truth about his uncle Humpty.
Told in dialogue throughout. The illustrations show the character expressions and the scenery around them. The aside comments add to the humor. A fun book to encourage discussion about finding balance between dangerous and too safe.
