I thoroughly enjoyed this story and kept trying to figure out what was happening right up to the end! Great characters and an unusual storyline made this a fun read. Stella is appointed as counsel for 9-year-old Rose, who has stopped talking after the death of her nanny, who fell (or was pushed??) out of a third-story window. Rose's parents, Beth and Ian, are in the midst of a divorce, and Stella is to decide who Rose would be better off with after the divorce. We also meet Ian's mother Harriet, who has been living with the family. Lots of twists and turns in this story, and very believable characters.
Sarah Pekkanen’s books with Greer Hendricks are some of my favorite thrillers, so I was so pumped to get the arc of her newest! House of Glass is such a thrilling, page-turning whodunnit and kept me hooked from beginning to end. I really liked the pov of a child’s best interest attorney as opposed to a detective, and the family she investigated was so creepy and unnerving. I genuinely didn’t know who killed Tina until it was revealed at the end, and the way the pieces all came together was satisfying! Thank you NetGalley and St Martins Press for the arc
an affair, a nanny murdered, trying to figure out what happened and who did it!?! need i say more????? great thriller!!!!!
looking from the outside in the Barclay family is perfect but on the inside they are falling apart. Beth and Ian are in a nasty divorce which is affecting sweet 9 year old Rose, One day Tina the Nanny has plunged to her death but she she jump or was she pushed, Rose has witnessed this and had reverted to not speaking. There were only four other people in the house besides Rose when this occurred, Ian and Beth, Ian's mom Harriet and Tina, So the question becomes did one of them kill Tina or was it really an accident, Enter Stella a court appointed attorney for Rose to put her best interest first, As Stella helps Rose she she finds out about the secrets the Barclay's are keeping and they want them to stay secret, As the police investigate Tina's death will the Barclays be able to stop Stella from telling them the secrets? and will the figure out what really happen to Stella and will Rose be ok? This was a great who dunnit book, The characters were so unpredictable that and so many twist and turns in the story that I had no idea about the ending till it happened and it was great ending,
I love stories about beautiful people and their perfect lives, then something happens that rips away the golden facade. That's what this glittering, twisty, well written novel is about. A nanny dies mysteriously, the witness is a child who refuses to speak, the parents are in the midst of an ugly divorce. No one is who they appeared to be to the outside world and it's up to a lawyer, Stella, to unfold the mysteries of this family. This book was a lot of fun! Settle in and enjoy.
Did she fall or was she pushed? The nanny for an 8 year old girl is found dead on the ground and the entire family she was living with are suspects. The case is now considered a cold case. Stella has been appointed to determine the best living arrangements for the girl as a result of the parents divorce. The entire family seems off to her and as she investigates she finds strange happenings. The girl, Rose, is traumatized but we don’t find out exactly why until almost the end of the story. There’s also another mystery Stella is working on concerning her mother. Because of the various things going on in this book it was easy to keep reading to find out how everything is resolved. There is lots of tension and it kept me guessing about what really happened. This is a well written book. I received an arc of this book from NetGalley and the publisher. All opinions expressed are my own.
“Evil isn’t merely a word. It’s a tangible, dimensional thing. It slithers through the air shifting molecules and displacing energy as it considers various hunting grounds.”
Stella is brought into a case with an ugly divorce. She hasn’t seen one like this before. The nanny is dead, the parents are hiding something and the child, Rose, won’t talk. It’s her job as the lawyer to determine who is the best fit for custody of Rose. The death of the nanny is now a cold case but as Stella tries to learn more about the family she unravels more than she expected.
As I began reading I was immediately drawn into the characters and the storyline. Stella is a strong woman who many can relate to and someone you’d naturally want to cheer on. Each character had me questioning theirs motives. I was left wondering who was the victim and who was the killer down to the very end. This novel will have you questioning is evil something that is within someone naturally? Is evil something that comes out when someone is pushed to their limits? Or is evil subjective?
Quick, satisfying psych thriller! Has a similar vibe to The Push if you’re a fan of that one. An investigator is hired to make a decision in a custody battle after their nanny is suspiciously killed. There’s many different pieces to the puzzle and some twists I wasn’t expecting! I loved the description of Rose and how anybody could be the murderer. An easy one day read
Not my favorite book by the author. I had so many thoughts on Rose throughout the book. I will say the grandma was straight-up messed up and the things she did to Tina and Stella to mess with their heads was loony. The side story of Stella and her family drama with Charles I could have done without but see how it connects to Rose. This had some good twists but I am not a big fan of using children as potential murderers.
House of Glass is hands down my top pick for thrillers this year! What a find! Following Stella, an attorney, navigating a complex case involving a mute 9-year-old, Rose, amidst a backdrop of tragic events, had me hooked from the start. With echoes of Stella's own past trauma, the suspense builds with every turn of the page. The atmosphere of the family home is chillingly described, adding to the tension. Sarah Pekkanen's masterful storytelling kept me on the edge of my seat, eagerly anticipating each twist and turn. I absolutely adored this book and can't wait to pass it on to my husband! Huge thanks to NetGalley, St. Martin’s Press, and Sarah Pekkanen for the opportunity to dive into this gripping read!
First I would like to thank Netgalley and St. Martin’s Press for the ARC. What a fun and exciting thriller read. It had so many good thriller elements: fun, creepy, page-turner and lots of twists. Also, I thought the title of this book is perfect.
I loved the creepy vibes this book gave off. The whole family (Beth, Ian, Rose and Harriett) all gave me the creeps at some point and it was even like the house was a character.
It was an easy quick read that I really enjoyed. I couldn’t put the book down and flew through it.
I think sometimes Stella made some poor decisions which I didn’t agree with but I found the book fun and engaging.
It was a very solid 4.5/5 stars and I would highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a good thriller read. #netgalley #houseofglass #stmartinspress
House of Glass is by far my favorite thriller of the year thus far! What a gem!
We follow Stella, an attorney, is asked to work a complicated case for a mute 9-year-old Rose, who became mute only after the tragic death of her nanny at their home. Her death comes after finding out about and affair she and the husband were having which results in a divorce. Due to the odd circumstances, Stella has to make the decision: who will get custody of Rose? And how can she know she is sending her with a parent that’s not guilt?
Stella suffered a similar tragic event with her mother’s death as a child, in which she also because mute temporarily due to this trauma. Once she starts this job and from that point on you just cannot put this book down! You follow small pieces of Stella’s personal life and her dedication to helping Rose no matter the conclusions she comes to about the death of the nanny.
The family home is only described best as dark and uninviting, you can picture the uncomfortable feelings Stella feels during her visits.
I felt my heart rate increase so many times through this book. I felt uneasy and anxious to get to the next chapter every time one ended. Sarah Pekkenan always does such a good job at leaving you wanting the next page! I absolutely loved this book and can’t wait to convince my husband to read it next!!
Thank you so so much to NetGalley, St. Martin’s Press and Sarah Pekkanen for this advanced copy in exchange for my fully honest opinion! 🫶🏼📚
This was a really good read!!! Is she a loving mother in law or a crazy one?? I really like that the women were presented as strong characters. Character development was on point. Sarah Pekkanen doesn’t let you down!!!!!
Arc was kindly sent to me by the publisher St. Martins Press!
This was almost a five star read for me, I’d give it a 4.75! It had such a sinister feel, and I couldn’t put it down.
In this book we’re following Stella, a best interest attorney for 9 year old Rose caught in the middle of her parents divorce amid the murder of her nanny.
Stella is also battling her own demons in regards to a tragedy that happened in her own past.
Not everything is as it seems, and everyone is hiding something.
A great page turner that kept me guessing. I did not guess the ending. I am sometimes worried about thriller books with children but I didn't find it too dark.
I genuinely enjoyed this book! The author set the stage for an atmospheric thriller and delivered compelling characters and a solid mystery.
This book follows Stella, a guardian ad litem who is tasked with a challenging case- recommending custody for a child whose parents are divorcing after the suspicious death of her nanny, Tina. As Stella tries to uncover the truth behind Tina’s death, she discovers that no one is above suspicion in a mysterious house where glass is no longer allowed.
This book was extremely readable- it grabbed my attention from the first chapter. While I did find the ending a bit predictable, I was glad to be along for the ride. Stella was a sympathetic but strong character- I was rooting for her throughout! I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a spooky mystery.

Stella Hudson's story deserves to be continued into a series - i didnt move for 3 hours and read this book in one sitting. #pleasewriteasequel
She’s an attorney who works with children (guardian ad litem). She only deals with teens due to her traumatic childhood - and takes a special case working for a child named Rose and her family. Stellas perfects cognitive incision in her interviews and conversations throughout the book with everyone in her new case.
Add this to your TBR now, and thank me later when you read it ❤️
There’s nothing better than a page-turning book written by a brilliant female author than the main character being an intelligent, intuitive, badass woman.

Wow,, this book was intense!! Definite page turned for sure. Highly recommend to anyone who loves a murder mystery.
First, I want to say I am a big Sarah Pekkanen fan, so when I had the chance to read this book, let me tell you, I was so happy!
Here, we have the golden family with the perfect life, but look inside closely, and you will find the perfect house of lies.
The House of Glass started out as a great whodunit until a second storyline was introduced. Unfortunately, that's when I kind of lost interest, and the story started to drag on for me.
This was definitely not one of my favorites by Sarah Pekkanen, but I will definitely keep reading her books!
Sarah Pekkanen has always been one of my favorite authors, her books never disappoint. House of Glass is no exception. It is very well written but very descriptive characters and vivid plots. A classic "who done it" with Pekkanen's own personal twist. The ending will have you mesmerized. If you want a quick read that you can't put down, then House of Glass is the book for you.
